Adblock Plus 1.1.1

Adblock Plus by Wladimir Palant Screenshot Adblock Plus Screenshot

Adblock Plus picks up where Adblock left off. It is a content filtering plug-in for the Firefox browser. It is both more robust and more precise than the built-in image blocker. It allows the user to specify filters, which remove unwanted content based on the source-address. Every time a webpage loads, it will intercept and disable the elements matching your filters.

Started using this recently because I couldn't get regular adblock working on FF 3beta 5. Not bad.

After updating XP with all the patches, the first thing I do is install Firefox and then Adblock Plus before anything else

The Web-surfer's best defense against the plague of online advertising - absolutely essential for Firefox.

Adblock Plus, as great as it is, has two downsides. Firstly, when friends are talking about some annoying ad on such and such a site you don't know what they're talking about and you feel a little left out. Secondly, when you're visiting friends or relatives and you go to check your web mail you get a short trip through hell. No, the goggles do not help.

With Adblock, NoScript and FF 3b5, the web is fun, clean and safe again. Breakfast of champions good.

Words can't do justice to how great this extension is.

This plus Rick752's excellent filters (EasyList, EasyElements) form a powerful couple against nasty ads on most websites. I wonder why this hasn't been built into Firefox by default.

While it is true that you can't help support a friendly website by clicking ads you CAN'T SEE.... I can't imagine browsing without this necessary extension.

Without this I wouldn't browse the web. :)

The best, as usual!

Heh, Canuckistani, I know what you mean. Whenever I have the misfortune of using a system that doesn't have ABP, I'm amazed by the crap I have to deal with. Remember to add a "*$script,third-party" filter rule. Check out the ABP blog.

Working good with both Seamonkey and Firefox. You don't know how valuable this plug in is till you use a pc/browser that doesn't have this. I know IE has its IE pro, but it doesn't seem to catch as many ads as this plug in.

"very good product" Blocks most ads and frequent updates seem to improve its blocking power. On some sites, it seems that pages load very slowly due to the blocking.

"Great addons for Firefox" It block a lot of those annoying flashy things. Sometimes, it blocks the popup on videos like in Youtube In the newest versions 1.0.2 it blocks pictures that I would like to see. Therefore, I'm here to reinstall 1.0.1 The Bottom Line is that once you use it on one computer you will be sad it's not installed in the next.Download NOW!

So far, blocks EVERYTHING on EVERY page I go to! Sometimes, too much gets blocked. Sometimes when I'm on Yahoo, the videos get blocked. Then I have to temporarily disable it for the site. Extremely easy to install on Firefox. No ads have gotten through using the standard ad blocking subscription lists. Sometimes pages have problems loading or load slowly. Or videos don't play (see comment about Yahoo videos above). When that happens, I just disable Ad Blocker Plus on the site. In the case of Yahoo, I temporarily disable it while I am watching the videos and re-enable it when I am done. It's that easy! Lately, though, I have been able to watch the videos while Ad Blocker Plus is active. But I am always on the alert for a change...

Once you can get it, it's brilliant. I (mistakenly) removed the old version, and could not download the new one. Only then did I realize as I surfed the Net how much garbage AdBlock was stopping. No mirror sites to download from if the primary site fails (which it did for me several hundred times), before finally giving up trying to download it using my primary PC. more... Likes: As stated, I missed AdBlock when I deleted it & couldn't reinstall. In particular were banner ads with loud noises (like an adv with punching bags for some stupid game). And also the sheer NUMBER of adverts as well... Because I've been using Adblock for years, I had simply FORGOTTEN how BAD it is out in the WWW. When I deleted it & couldn't get it reinstalled, It was VERY FRUSTRATING looking at all those ads again. DISLIKES: 1/. The lack of mirror sites is a real problem. After several hundred attempts, I gave up trying to use my primary PC, and In the end, I managed to download the XPI file from another PC running VISTA & Internet Explorer 8 (FireFox had not been installed on the Vista PC). I then transferred the file to my primary PC. 2/. The inability to totally 'remove' it (AdBlock) from FireFox once installed is also a problem... I tried uninstalling FireFox, and removing all references to Adblock from the Registry. No matter what I did, even after reinstalling FF, AdBlock would still not download or install from their 'primary' (read ONLY) download site. If you go to the ADBLOCK FORUM you will find many people experiencing the same problem - with many suggestions, none of which worked (for me). Now that I have it (ABP) installed again, (I simply dragged the XPI file on to an open FireFox page & it installed itself) I back to being a happy ABP user. What's been interesting is having 2 PC's running side by side - one with, & one without AdBlock Plus - then seeing just how bad some web sites are (with ads all over the screen). WISH LIST: They should de

Even with a fast computer (I have 5 gigs RAM) pages can still load slow with all the Flash advertising and pictures trying to load. Adblock Plus blocks ALL of it! No more Flash movies or pictures of Paris Hilton loaded in my Yahoo home page! Takes a bit of getting used to. Sometimes you have to tell the program that yes, you want to block a certain image. You can open Adblock Plus and see the total amount of ads that have been blocked. In just over 4 months, I've had over 300,000 adds, pictures and Flash files blocked. No, that is not a typo...300,000. I know companies are just trying to do business, but it got way out of hand.

"Great Product" -Blocks most ads through one click Subscribing to the Easy List-Easily block any image you want through right click-Other elements can be hidden too and another add-on created by the same publisher helps block other elements. -Some blocking can cause a few problems with some pages as blocking ads may result in blocking some important content. This doesn't happen often however. Sometimes, CNETTV does not load as the add-on blocks the ads that often appear before the video. Adblock Plus is a useful add-on that does what it says and I would recommend it to all Firefox users.

"The ultimate ad-killer." It just does his work - block the internet ads.Nothing more, nothing less.I haven't seen any ads for years now. The settings are a little unobvious, but they need to be set only once. Experiencing the web without ads - or at least with a whole lot fewer ads - is awfully pleasant.
