VMware Player is free software that enables PC users to easily run any virtual machine on a Windows or Linux PC. VMware Player runs virtual machines created by VMware Workstation, GSX Server or ESX Server and also supports Microsoft virtual machines and Symantec LiveState Recovery disk formats. VMware Player is ideal for safely evaluating pre-built application environments, beta software, or other software distributed in virtual machines. With VMware Player, anyone can easily experience the benefits of preconfigured products rapidly without any installation or configuration hassles.

"Awesome software!" It is my first time trying out vmware. Wow. This software is awesome. I can have my own computer within somebody else's computer. We have a computer at my friends house that everyone uses and everyone has their own vmware player vm in it. It isolates your virtual computer from everyone elses. Sooooo coool. No bugs. I dont find anything wrong yet. Man I am glad this is free.

The ISO images included now are simply the VMTools (similar to "guest additions" in the terminology of competing products) for all supported operating systems. It's really about time VMware started providing these for Player; they were already freely available in the Server product. Their absence from Player was meant to reflect the fact that Player is not intended for creating VMs, just running them. Of course, everyone has figured out how to create them without buying Workstation or installing Server, and their slow VMs without VMTools were making Player look bad.

"NO WAY JOSE!!" NO PROS!!! I will never use VMWARE player again. It screwed up my OS majorly!! I had to recover my OS. I am not a beginner either when it comes to computers. Don't waste your time!! VMware Workstation is much better!!! Use the workstation!!

"Great free utility that allows you to try new OS's" It not only provides you the VM to run your guest OS but it also provides the guest OS itself (at least in Linux). Plus it's FREE. Speaking for the guest Linux OSs in a Windows host, not al the linux distros have access to the wireless network adapter in the host physical machine. Some do and some don't. Good for testing out a new OS but not all guest OS's work right. Your mileage may vary.

I have found VMware Player the best way to run Windows applications on Linux (Ubuntu). For example: running WinXp in VMware Player allows you to use TaxCut for your taxesI Or for that matter QuickBooks for your accounting. I have found the performance of VMware Player much better on a 1-GHz host than QtEmu or VirtualBox. And Wine is fine for many portable win32 apps, but does not yet have enough compatibility for things like Tax Preparation software. I look forward to the day when serious financial software will be available in for Linux so there is no need for emulators. Office productivity and Internet applications are pretty much there now.

"Met all expectations I had for it" Simple to install. Straightforward to use. Does not install things it's not supposed to. I do not have anything bad to say about this software

I was driven away from VMware Server due to its totally unusable web-UI, and its huge burden of bugs. I gave VMware another chance testing Player, and I installed it on a rock solid Vista system with good hardware and all updates applied. The result: VMware Player totally crashed the system twice in a few hours. The last hours of my life I allow a VMware product to waste. Goodbye VMware, I hope to not hear you any more in the future!

Two previous men obviously have their Windows installations broken. It's rock solid, I've been using VMWare for more than ten years.

It looks as if it will not run in linux with a windows machine. ?? Windows with a linux machine yes, but why bother. Just buy a cheap minipc. Down link does not work and what's with the having to give them your firstborn just do download it?

Excellent piece of software. VMWare player has evolved to replace VMWare Workstation now.

It does its job with decent performances, it is free, it is stable. GUI is quite minimal. The payload of virtualization is still high in terms of performances, IMHO WMP is on par with other entry level solutions.

None-it nearly destroyed my computer as after I downloaded it my keyboard no longer worked. After downloading VM ware player my keyboard no longer worked and neither did the touch pad. After I downloaded VM ware player, which did not install anyway,my computer keyboard and touch pad no longer worked. So I had to perform a system restore-recovery.To set my computer a Netbook back to an earlier time before I downloaded VM ware player. It was lucky my plug in mouse still worked,as the keyboard did not nor did my touch pad after downloading this product. With the plug in mouse I was able to get to system restore to do a recovery and thank god, this saved my computer. As it put it back to 2 days ago before I downloaded VM ware player and now my keyboard and everything else on my laptop is back to normal. But I had to reinstall Google Chrome Canary again as VM player destroyed the browser, which I had use to download VM player with. But if it had not been for system restore I would not have a computer now,as I would not have been able to use it without the keypad. So my warning is don't download this product what ever you do. Unless you want to wreck your computer.VM ware player is a dangerous download.

Used it on Windows 7 to install Windows XP, and Ubuntu. Needed XP to continue to use HP Precision Scanjet Scanner for which there are no drivers that run Windows 7.This was very easy to install & use, and works perfectly. Ubuntu installed very easily, and almost perfectly, but failed to file share with the host platform. This problem has been observed by others, but at present I don't know the solution, and need to research it further. If VMplayer (version 3.1.3) hadn't existed, I would have probably been forced to throw away my HP scanner, which still functions very well, but cannot run directly on Windows 7.VMplayer is extremely well documented, and has an excellent user interface.I also like the ability to install another operating system like Ubuntu, knowing that it cannot possibly interfere with the host Windows 7. The player is useful in other ways too. For example, I can test my Windows 7 backup disc by trying to install it within the VMware environment. The proper use of the guest operating system depends on the ability to share files with the host environment. Hence, I am surprised about the failure of my Ubuntu installation to share files, even though this problem had already been observed by others.
