GMail Drive 1.0.15

GMail Drive by viksoe.dk Screenshot GMail Drive Screenshot

GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google GMail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your GMail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag'n'drop files to.

Finally the error at login is gone. Almost 6 months having to log on twice.

This "virtual drive" isn't exactly the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it is still handy. Unfortunately it doesn't work with all GMail accounts, only the ones that end in gmail.com. If you are using your own domain you will have to sign up for an extra GMail account to use this shell. The only other issue I have with it is that you can't create and edit files directly on the drive - it is only meant to copy or move files there. Still, 7GB of hard drive storage on the Internet is a very reasonable price. And the drag and drop feature is very useful.

Would be great program if it would logon... Did gmail change their logon function again? Any chance of an update to this program?

Check to see if you have enabled forced https for your gmail account I had it switched on and Gmail Drive wouldn't work. I switched off forced HTTPS in my preferences and it worked fine again.

Wait until you try to store a bunch of photos to your gmail and you get your account locked for unusual activity. Using this app violates google terms of use.

This works great. I now have a way of backing things up on the web in a simple manner. Youll want to setup a filter on gmail for it but after that its clean and simple.

Installs but doesn't show up on Windows7 x64 build 7201. 3 Stars as a mid-score until I can actually test the program.

i read a lot about google being able to block this tool anytime, but what really happens, is that they block your whole gmail account. that is, if you upload or download too much data in a short period of time. so forgett about uploading your mp3 collection (as the screenshot seems to recommend) fortunately they blocked my account for only one day. my google acount is too important to me, to play with it.

When this first came out people were looking at Google's 'unlimited storage' for emails and thinking 'I'll have some of that !!!' - they were looking for ways to store anything in their email box.. I can not see the point of this now. Why store documents in a Google email account when you can store documents, pictures, music etc in Google Docs which can be accessed via a variety of tools. My favorite is http://www.gladinet.com which puts Google Docs, Microsoft SkyDrive, Box.net (and others) right in 'My Computer'

If google's being able to block this tool and even block my gmail account it would be a tragedy for me. I had a lot of important emails and contacts in it. Really worried.

A great program, but I do wonder it is legal or not. Using this app violates google terms of use.
