Plays everything In 1.0.2, there's a problem playing DVDs resized to less than full screen but more than "native" size. At each chapter change, it now resizes itself back to native size. According to help forum, there's no fix. Makes watching DVDs unbearable. Up to this latest release, VLC was all you needed to play any video I've ever encountered. But the bug (apparently a known bug that for some reason is unfixable) about resizing videos at each chapter change makes using it impossible for any but single-file videos. I searched the forums and help files but all I found were references to statements from the developers that for some reason, this is an issue they can't fix. I never had the problem until this release, so I'm not sure if it existed prior and I was just lucky, or what, but for the first time in years I'm looking for an alternative video player program.

Personal/professional NEED to spot-check playback integrity of any received file before committing system time to format conversion. This handles every format I've tried so far, thus eliminating the need for multiple playback engines. Haven't found anything to dislike yet, except (perhaps, I haven't fully searched yet) a sister convert/burn product which is equally flexible, and hopefully FASTER than the utterly reliable but SLOW product I currently use. Plays back everything I've thrown at it so far, which is infinitely preferable to maintaining multiple source-QC engines ["see it and see" before investing system time in format conversion] on the same CPU, which is already overtaxed despite dual-processor configured SPECIFICALLY for multimedia authoring. Updated on Sep 27, 2009 Summary; I'd intended this to be a question to a SPECIFIC prior reviewer whose comments led me to believe s/he might have some insight on this particular question...sigh...but if this MUST go "broadcast" so be it Updated on Sep 27, 2009 Oh wow, this just keep on getting worse. Evidently this site lack the capability for users to direct comments to either a general audience or the specific person one is responding to. Given this inane stricture, PLEASE disregard EVERYTHING I've said so far, it probably does not apply to you ... and i am SO sorry to have wasted your bandwidth. it will not happen again, as I no longer intend to use this site.

"it's free and it works" Free! Great little player, hardly ever crashes, handles most media, supports full screen view, easy interface. Very nice program, fits on a USB key. Doesn't like to rewind so much; doesn't always play sound track; volume seems to fluctuate. Likes to grab all associations - but did I mention its FREE? I've had difficulty with playlists and selecting multiple files to play consecutively, but free! Well worth having.

"Always Liked This Software" Does as promised. Can't think of any. Go for it. It is sleek and works better than the big name products.

Faster load and playback than the two other media players on my system (Windows Media Player and Nero 8). So far, haven't stumbled across a format VLC can't handle. Also looking forward to exploring it's other capabilities. Not a deal breaker but I am not a fan of the tone bleep at the start of playback on every track. The VLC Media Player 1.0.2 provides me with greater versatility, convenience, and speed than players I have paid for. This product delivers the kind of service one would expect from a player of moderate cost. An amazing deal and unexpected quality for free software. I recommend it to anyone.

"Music in the blink of an eye!" Free media player that handles 99% of formats! Contains many hidden gems! Forgotten what it was. It does everything asked of it, playing all kinds of media with ease and it is free!

"Aggressive software" Supposedly plays most everything, but I didn't have it long enough to know for sure. Installs Firefox plug-in that takes over all video functions, won't let you save videos from web Does not have loop function for video playback unlike WMP. I'd rather use WMP with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack to play all videos than this aggressive software.

"Almost perfect..." lite weight, easy to use wish it played everything, love the simplicity

"almost perfect..." easy to use and easy to operate, does not take a rocket scientist. Seems to handle all formats with relative ease. Interface is kind of bland and unattractive. Ease-of-use and minimal amount of headaches, although the interface could use some work.

"It seems like it's trying to do too much." It's still my default player. Work's great, when I get it to do what I want. My default player, but for some reason it dosn't go directlt to video. Supposed to open video, but it goes to audio and I still need to do everything manually. Once I get it to play a movie it's great. Getting there is a problem.I'll keep it until I look for something better. Everything worked perfect in older versions. I'm hoping one of these updates will fix it, and there has been alot lately.
