VLC (VideoLAN) is a multi-platform multimedia player. It can read DVDs, VCDs, MPEG, and DivX files and from a satellite card. It can also read a stream from a network sent by the VideoLAN Server or another source. The stream can be MPEG 2 TS in UDP or HTTP packets unicasted or multicasted on an IPv4 or IPv6 network.

This opens all the "New" codes that seem to come out of no where and for a free player its fast . Stupid Orange cone on the desktop ... news perhaps a cartoon figure . The best damn video player that runs rings around the other players out there.

Stick to linux!! This crapware is the equivalent of Safari for windows. The year 2010 and they just now have "Experimental" support for GPU acceleration and only on a handful of Nvidia only cards! This in side by side playback against Splayer build 1372 has horrible color and lack of depth. The difference between HD and HD in a thick fog! Very few software developers build truly innovative cross platform applications. This is not one of them. They can't even claim to have done what all others have already! Kmplayer, Bsplayer, Splayer, MPC, WMP, and even Winamp all have successfully implemented H264 acceleration. How many years has VLC been in development? Give it up! The chinese (splayer) & the koreans (kmplayer) are a decade ahead of these linux only developers. I wish this were not true as I love VLC's skins and interface.

If you have 1.0.5, DO NOT UPGRADE. The compatibility with Winamp file and formats was seriously hampered in this release. Streaming x264 with nsv won't work and neither will Shoutcast. Although, according to reports, it may not be the developers' fault, this upgrade feels like a downgrade.

Best viewer ever for Windows. I have failed to know it worked on M$.Been using it on Linux, long time didn't know I could get it over.Better than CyberLink....for which I have paid.Absolutely terrific player for downloaded titles AND subtitles no cons....love it I need BADLY to donate to this open-source effort; I owe 'em. I will.

Will play just about anything. I can`t work out how to create a music library, and it just forgot my library/playlist when I created one ? I am quite puter thick though. All in all, it`s great for my video needs, and never any problems there.

Ease of use, user-friendly; variety of media able to play. No complaints about it. Have used this product for months and have switched all of my media to using it. The interface is excellent and easily understandable.

Support for each and every single media format i have ever tried.I can also play media files which are currently being downloaded. It can stream videos over a Network I Hate the default interface.Item management is poor

The interface and audio improved like they said but... Whenever I open a new video file it has to load the font cache first before it plays the file. Where did that come from? The previous versions of VLC never had to load a font cache. I guess I'll just have to stick with a previous version like 1.05 for now until they come up with a version that doesn't load a font cache before playing a file.

not used it much but works very well. audio & Video too. Not noticed any so far. Very straight forward & simple to use; could jazz it up with some video generated display like window media player, while playing audio music;without compromising on the quality.

It was free! I can't figure out how to permanently stop subtitles from automatically playing on all the videos! One of the better multi-format video players.

the strongest pro is that it can play all sorts of media file. the user interface. looks rather dull. Have been using it for many months while was on XP OS. Now switched to W7 and found out today it does not run on W7 OS.Make it compatible for w7 sooooooon!!

This player works better then Divx. It will play media that others don't and its free. I can add subs with on problem where other want to give a failed app respond. still a few bugs the player wants to crash a lot. I have used this player for years VLC will get the bugs out in the next release I hope.

I find it to be the most flexible media player I've got. The interface is barren, but that's ok unless you like having a big gui as part of the program (like powerdvd or WMP). Using the advanced menu is not self-explanatory at all. I was playing an anime dvd where the edges of everything on screen were jagged. After I found the solution in the forums, I also had to look up how to change the settings! Come on, for free this is the best player you're going to get. It's more flexible than WMP and does just as well at the basics. It's advanced capabilities are second-to-none. And it's a small program, in case you have a computer with limited resources. There's nothing not to love about VLC player!

no real issues No setting on phone to slow down video pics. Used the minus that works in VLC. It would be nice if I could setup a file to do everything at once and not have to do over for every video pic taken on phone

Easy to download, easy to install, easy to use. Show's AVI files great. No problem loading movies from files or off DVD.s to watch. Nothing wrong as far as I am concerned. It does what it says it does. It's free, it's great little program.
