VLC (VideoLAN) is a multi-platform multimedia player. It can read DVDs, VCDs, MPEG, and DivX files and from a satellite card. It can also read a stream from a network sent by the VideoLAN Server or another source. The stream can be MPEG 2 TS in UDP or HTTP packets unicasted or multicasted on an IPv4 or IPv6 network.

If you have an older computer, try VLC Media Player, because it has a FAST start-up time and REQUIRES far less CPU-horsepower to get results. I have VLC, MPC, K-Lite Codecs installed on all of my computers. I prefer to have multiple video players so I have the option to handle the rare problems playing some videos. I use VLC the most because it starts up the fastest and just plain works on all of my family and friends computers that I support.

"VLC is an improvement over the Microsoft Media Player." Dissatisfied with Windows Media Player, this application is a far better alternative. It has more options and is easy to use. I recommend it for anyone who uses a DVD ROM or CD ROM. It took a little bit to get it to work initially, but the application is far better than messing with Microsoft's application. VLC Media Player is a very user friendly, intuitive application that allows me to use my music libraries or 'movie of the day' without any struggle. It lets me gets started, the 'disappears' while in use. Then it comes easily to use when I am done.

"It simply works, every time. What more can be said?" This player works with no hassles, no extra things to download for particular kinds of files. It doesn't try to take over all your media, only what you specify. Haven't found anything yet.

"Unsuccessfull DVD burning" It's free. It's free. It's free. Couldn't successfully burn a DVD to my hard drive. Couldn't find useful instructions. Poked around interface and did get it to burn a decent quality two minutes of the DVD menu loop, but could get it to burn the whole DVD. Didn't use if for viewing anything, so can't comment, but burning DVD was not successful.

"Not all all what I was looking for .(not it's fault'!)" Well as a complete novice ... evan though I dpn't know how.. it looks 'knowable' which is enheartening... Crisp, clean lines (visually and phonically) Really easy to just 'drag' from RP, KM then to Ultra.Mixer So far no real library function which is what I wanted...Dull looking, not nearly as sexy as KM,....why Orange? I'll stick at it I'm going to use it as a learning tool... watch this space!

"Great All-In-One player" No codecs need to be installed. Not a memory hog. Plays multiple, multiple file types even in their compressed state. Has an option to repair broken files, and will play parts of file that are readable. Broadcasting capabilities. Requires a lot of customization if you're not satisfied with default settings. Will sometimes freeze when going back and forth "Skins". Make sure to carefully select what file types to associate. NO real CONS actually. A great All-In-One media player/utility. Straight out of the box, and ready to use. A simply must have from novice to advanced user. Great for quick testing of files. Personally, I much rather install all of my own codecs to work with al... read more >>
