AnyDVD works in the background to automatically remove the copy protection of a DVD movie as soon as it's inserted into the drive, allowing you then to backup the movie using a DVD backup tool such as CloneDVD and CloneDVD mobile. You can also remove the RPC region code, thereby making the movie region free and viewable on any DVD player and with any DVD player software. It is capable of removing unwanted movie features, including subtitles and prohibition messages such as copyright and FBI warnings. It also allows you to launch an external application whenever you insert or remove a disc, or prevent 'PC-friendly' software from automatically launching when you insert a video DVD.Decryption is not all that AnyDVD offers. You can control the drive speed of your DVD drive, allowing you to reduce the noise level when watching movies on your PC. You can even adjust the display frequency of your monitor for both NTSC and PAL displays. It also decrypts protected audio CDs to allow you to copy them.

Maybe youy could clarify about waiting a month to back up Zohan. Could it be the combo of your drive and the software? I had no problem backing up Zohan. I have had to update firmware and even update my drive in the past to successfully back up a specific disc.

AnyDVD is becoming buggier and buggier and is having more and more problems with recent DVDs. To name just a few recent releases, AnyDVD couldn't handle Leatherheads and You Don't Mess With The Zohan. Slysoft's forum was filled with irate customers like myself who had to wait a month for Slysoft to fix AnyDVD to work with these DVDs. Its main competitor DVDFab had no problems with these DVDs and worked as advertised. The only saving grace for AnyDVD is that it is the only program that is currently able to remove all of the protections on Blu-ray discs. That is its only advantage over DVDFab. Don't let anybody tell you differently. For those that value their privacy (and all of you should), you should be aware that this program frequently calls home even if you have the "Automatically check for new AnyDVD Version" option unchecked. For those claiming the program is only calling home to check for updates, read the EULA for what private information Slysoft are collecting about YOU. Needless to say, you should block AnyDVD with your firewall but Slysoft makes it difficult by using multiple servers and domains (ev1.slysoft.com, h3.slysoft.com, ns23842.ovh.net, iw2.slysoft.com, h3.slysoft.com, sb2slysoft.com, ns6.gandi.net, ev1slysoft.com, reverse.privatedns.com, etc. are but a few of the servers they use). And don't believe the hype about "free lifetime updates". It is a sham which old customers of AnyDVD like myself found out the hard way. When Slysoft added HD DVD support, they said it was not an "enhancement" but rather an "upgrade" that users had to pay for which forced users who had been promised "free lifetime updates" to pay for the program TWICE. So much for their empty promise of "free lifetime upgrades"! You can bet that Slysoft will make you pay full price again when the next video format is released. If you want a good chuckle, read the EULA to find out the truth about when your "lifetime li

There's an exaggeration about waiting a month for a Zohan fix. The movie was released on Oct 7. AnyDVD 6.4.7.6 came out on Oct 23 and addressed some issues that related to Zohan. That's not a month. There was also an issue with ClonDVD that had to be fixed and was on Oct 13. So far I've encountered no issues with 6.4.7.8 but it only applies to BluRay so it should make no difference in terms of standard DVDs.

Never had a single problem with it, and one of the few programs that sticks to its purpose and not add bloated crap to keep selling.

The best - always works. We use it to put our Movies on our Media Center. I do use a lot of opensource software for many things, but when it comes to DVD's you have to go with the best, as it is always changing, small fee, good support.

It's patently moronic to rate down AnyDVD just because someone broke BlueRay's encryption. Is there a product taking advantage of that? And oh wait--SlySoft was the FIRST to break BluRay, months prior to the others. I'm not rating AnyDVD highly because it was the first to break BD+. I rate it highly because it works well, works with more than just BluRay (duh...) works with any software you wish to use alongside it (duh... the reason it installs a driver!), and it's frequently updated. And let's quote the author of your beloved "Blu-Ray Disc Ripper", shall we? "So you see that in fact all the credit for removing Blu-ray region code should go to Slysoft. I just did some reverse engineering." Yet people see fit to come here and give AnyDVD a grudging "1" rating... Whatever.

The only application in it's class which is updated as frequently and is able to keep up with the ever changing film industry and their never-ending onslaught of copy protections. Price aside, this is perhaps the best choice in winning back your fair-use rights on the media you purchase. Great job Slysoft!

Having a quality product that does it's intended job elegantly does not give SlySoft the right to gouge it's customers with a price of over $100 and, in a few days, an annual subscription fee. After all, quality and elegance are to be expected of any good program. AnyDVD is not the only decrypter available. Money may be saved by giving others a try. Although I am unable to test the feature, DVDFab HD Decrypter claims to remove HD and Blu-ray protection. It's website states "It also comes with full HD-DVD and Blu-Ray support".

Never had a problem with AnyDVD. It simply works, and it works well. I purchased mine with the lifetime update(grades) when the dollar was at a better exchange rate with the the Euro but I would purchase it again today if I hadn't already done so. You can still get it with the lifetime updates , the offer has been extended 'till January 18 2009. Maybe they will extend it again ... maybe not. Oh yea ... there is a 20% discount available as well. As with most things in life , there are options when it comes to backing up your DVDs. I have not tried other free/pay decrypters and see no need to when I am so happy with what I have got. I have not purchased a Blu-ray player yet but I did get the HD software upgrade just in case. This software has been flawless for me. Highly recommended!

People need to actually understand what is happening before spreading disinformation. Slysoft is changing their licensing policies as can be seen on their website and in their forums but when the change takes place they will still offer an option to purchase a license with lifetime updates. All purchases made prior to the licensing change are grandfathered and those people will continue to get updates at no additional cost. This is clearly explained. AnyDVD and AnyDVD HD continue to do what they are supposed and always have done. New standard definition DVD protections have been released and they have been resolved using AnyDVD. A newer form of BD+ was used and after a short period of time AnyDVD HD was able to overcome that, as well. People can find ways to badmouth or trash talk AnyDVD and AnyDVD HD but they continue to function as advertised and nothing else comes close. I am currently using the latest beta version (6.5.1.9) without any issues as of yet.

Come on now - that's just silly.Conspiracy theories? Please. I'm just factoring in the value of the product in relation to what it can do, and I would hope that with their changes in licensing policy and their increasing costs, my point regarding what you pay for what you get is at the very least made more clear. When you include the fact that they have had ongoing incompatibilities with InCD and other packet-writing applicaitons for Years and they remain unresolved, surely you can see there is indeed a valid point or two here, can you not? Wishing to ban people for a legitimate difference of opinion seems just a tad over the top, don't you think? I mean, come on, nearing on $150.00 in United States Dollars and a policy that allows you to purchase a Lifetime Subscription, but only for "Updates" and not "Upgrades", that's an awful lot to ask. Slysoft has very clearly stated their policy regarding Updates vs Upgrades, and I think that policy undermines the justification for the high prices they now charge. If they offered a Lifetime Subscription that included Both Updates AND Upgrades, I think a legitamate argument could be made that the product deserves a higher score based on Bang for the Buck, or Value, if you will. There's no hostility, and there's no conspiracy. It's simply about the Cost to Benefit ratio, and in this particular case, I would think that would be obvious to anyone, including myself, who have purchased licenses for the product before the HD modification came along. Please don't make this personal. There is no need for that. It just confuses the issue and detracts from what should be a mature comparison of review criteria. For those who love the product, use the product and can afford the product, I hope you thoroughly enjoy the application. It just so happens that there are a number of us who cannot, and value and licensing policiy are just two of the reasons. The fact that the very latest release of this produc

Well, I'm sure glad I bought my license a few years ago. This software has become prohibitively ex[pensive. I'm being generous giving it a two rating only because the product works very well, but at current prices only those with bottomless pockets will pay for this.

I have seen this complaint about incompatibilities with InCD before. The bottom line for me is that it has successfully backed up every DVD we have purchased. The only problem I have ever had was due to harware. When I upgraded my drive the problem was gone. It does the job everytime with zero hassles. Updates or upgrades doesn't mean anything as long as it does the job. My gripe is that both sides of this bickering have made it personal. SlySoft and you guys keep bickering. Over and over you restate your previous gripes and mark the software down to a 1. Packet writing alone isn't reason to mark it down to a one when it obviously works well for the vast majority on backing up DVDs.

6.5.2.2 is out and what I am reviewing. AnyDVD works as advertised. I have yet to feed it anything it cannot handle and have never had a problem with it. I quit using InCD many years ago so I can not speak to its problems with AnyDVD , but Slysoft warns against using InCD. I switched to DVD-RAM so I get a similar effect of InCD but with out any problems others have complained about. It sucks when things don't work after a software/hardware changes but it happens, all too often. Maybe those who have a problem with InCD can switch to a USB flash drive (cheap) or maybe to DVD-Ram (not so cheap) or maybe turning off AnyDVD can help. Obviously a situation exists where there needs to be a change in perspective of what is wanted/needed vs. what you have to work with. As for the price ... yea , the new dollar-euro exchange rate hurts and the 1year/2year/3year/4year/lifteime pricing is (way) high. If you compare it against the price of a box set (or two) being replaced , then not so terrible. Maybe the pricing scheme will fail ... maybe Slysoft will fail ... maybe someone makes something open source or free. All I care about right now is that IT WORKS GREAT.

There are continued incompatiblities with packet writing software, the cost of the product is now staggeringly high and the licensing has been changed to a subscription model. There are free programs out there that will rip just about any DVD there is, and many Blu-Ray / HD-DVD disks too, and the community at Doom9 is contiually adding new code to decrypt even more Blu-Ray and HD-DVD disks all of the time, and those are free as well. High price, lack of value and free alternatives being available combine to merit a score of 1 star.

I have found this to be a very reliable program that does just what it says it will do. One nice thing is when I try to play bluray dvd's on my computer I used to get "This computer ins't HDTV" issues and they wouldn't play. This app elliminates the issue for me. Sadly they did change the purchasing plan a little while ago but they gave everyone advance notice so they could buy or get the program before the changes took place and then even extended the deadline
