AnyDVD HD 6.7.7.0

AnyDVD HD by SlySoft, Inc. Screenshot AnyDVD HD Screenshot

AnyDVD works in the background to automatically remove the copy protection of a DVD movie as soon as it's inserted into the drive, allowing you then to backup the movie using a DVD backup tool such as CloneDVD and CloneDVD mobile. You can also remove the RPC region code, thereby making the movie region free and viewable on any DVD player and with any DVD player software. It is capable of removing unwanted movie features, including subtitles and prohibition messages such as copyright and FBI warnings. It also allows you to launch an external application whenever you insert or remove a disc, or prevent 'PC-friendly' software from automatically launching when you insert a video DVD.Decryption is not all that AnyDVD offers. You can control the drive speed of your DVD drive, allowing you to reduce the noise level when watching movies on your PC. You can even adjust the display frequency of your monitor for both NTSC and PAL displays. It also decrypts protected audio CDs to allow you to copy them.

Umm.. Metshrine what the hell are you talking about? As DudeBoyz said You don't need AnyDVD Installed to watch a DVD/HDDVD/BlueRay on your computer or dvd player, whatever you use. Now in terms of what it does, yes it beats out all others but I must agree with DudeBoyz that it is quite expensive and should have the price lowered. So I am giving it a 5/5. Because I am rating the program as is, not the price.

When I want to watch a disc on my home theater PC, I just want to be able to watch it. I don't want to have to sift through the annoying "You wouldn't steal a car" trailers or the long-outdone FBI warnings, I just want it to play. I don't want the menu to come up, if I did I could hit the menu button. In the case of my child, I just want the disc to play the main title without her having to do a thing. For this to happen, I have two options as I see it. I can either A) Rip the movie to the hard drive first, delaying the start of the movie or B) just put the disc in and let it play. There is not much of a choice in this matter if you ask me. AnyDVD allows me to VIEW a disc with all of the protections and annoyances removed WITHOUT having to first rip the disc to the hard drive and then setting it up so that my media center PC can play it. Ripping is all well and good if I plan to backup the disc to an AVI or separate DVD for my daughter to view without worry of the disc being ruined, but for just wanting to view a disc during family movie night or when my daughter wants to put in a disc to play on our home theater, there is only one program which provides me this functionality, AnyDVD. I can't say enough good things about this program. If people can get past its price point they will realize that no other application can touch this in terms of functionality and ease of use. 5/5.

too expensive and buggy + i'm not gonna go to a baseball or football game.

Amazing program. Removes alot of the crap on dvds. Program is worth the money. The higher price is okay because they do have to update the program non stop because of the movie companies and their copy protection. Even does BlueRay which is very hard to get around. Pay the company and be quiet about the price. U pay way more going to a baseball or football game.

this program is too expensive.we need a stronger dollar overseas or something.i can't afford $100.00 for a ripper. and metshrine what happened to all the text from your original review post.you changed it alot from what you first said.now elliot_nalley and dudeboy posts don't make any sense.they were talking about what you originaly posted not what you changed to read now. plus, i don't understand why anyone would say that anydvd isn't able to rip to the hard drive and always stays in memory.i thought anydvd let you rip to video_ts on your hard drive or now iso on your hard drive and then after that rip, you can take it out of memory without needing to reboot.can't you just boot into vista, manually start anydvd, rip to the hard drive and close anydvd so it isn't in memory anymore.it's not a true standalone program but you can use it kind of like one if you want i think.i need to go test that to be sure.

This is the only program which lets my family and I enjoy movies of any kind, regardless of protection, the instant we want to watch them. No other program can remove the BD+ protection method for blu-ray discs. No other program can remove protections with the speed at which AnyDVD does it. The price point might be a tad bit higher than most users can afford, but if there is any application in the market that has the same features or more of AnyDVD, then they have yet to be released as none can match what AnyDVD does in the footprint which it does it. Given the amount I spend on movies in a given month in both the DVD and Blu-ray formats, a one time fee for AnyDVD HD was well worth it. For my home entertainment setup, this is by far one of the best investments I have ever made. 5/5

catchpole: Is there some reason you had to cut and paste a portion of one of Metshrine's old DVDFab reviews (from July 29), rather than come up with your own reply? You aren't the same (possibly multi-username) person who was constantly rating DVDFab a 5, AnyDVD a 1, and attacking anyone who rated DVDFab down for any reason, accusing them of having multiple usernames or being Metshrine in disguise, are you? -1 rating on price, but that's it. I've got nothing against either AnyDVD or DVDFab.

still not working as it should. + too expensive. I do not work for a software company competing with this product, I do not work in the software industry at all. Nowhere near that industry. Those two reasons listed are absolute no gos in my book. Again, you fail to understand that YOUR rating scheme does not equate to everyones rating scheme. If you feel you have to rate this a 5 simply to counter me, so be it, skew the ratings. Not my choice nor my care. I rate this as I FEEL it deserves. Now, I will continue to rate this a 1 until both issues are rectified as they are perfect reasons to rate this a one. This also represents my final response to your posts as it does nothing but detract from the products other reviews.

To those who wonder why you need AnyDVD to watch a DVD on your computer you'll get your answer from the release notes. Numerous standard DVDs and some BluRay discs actually won't playback correctly on a computer. Whether the fault is with the studios or the software player programmers is debatable. AnyDVD makes it possible to watch them when you otherwise could not have. Take a look at the newest release notes for the beta. One person continually posts that it's buggy, doesn't work, or that it's too expensive yet I question whether they even have the software installed. I get more of a feeling that they just want to be that person posting the negative repetitive carbon-copy feedback with zero actual information every single time a new release is posted. Some people may not want to grasp the concept but AnyDVD as a resident driver level program is the way it is and the way it will remain. Just because some detractors don't like the way it works and they may not use it for their HTPC doesn't mean the methodology is bad and a great many people do like the way it works. If you don't like using it that way then rip the discs to your HDD and watch them that way. Exit AnyDVD when you aren't using it. Why throw a stink over something that simple. I really wonder sometimes. I've run into no issues with the new update. It's working solidly so far. Updated: A bug did surface with the beta and they've already fixed it. They released AnyDVD 6.4.6.4 beta.

No other product can claim to have the functions that AnyDVD (HD) offers. Nothing is comparable in terms of safeguarding and watching your standard DVDs and there is absolutely nothing that comes within lightyears of competing with AnyDVD HD and its ability to handle HD-DVD and BluRay discs. AnyDVD HD now handles AACS MKBv8 without even requiring an update on the user's end. There aren't even any MKBv8 discs officially for sale yet. Yet again Slysoft is ahead of the game and everyone else is left in the dust in terms of AACS and BluRay discs. Don't even get me started on no one having a clue how to deal with BD+ other than Slysoft. Sure, there are other backup programs on the market that are cheaper but, honestly, I find it impossible to compare either AnyDVD for use with standard DVDs or AnyDVD HD for use with HD-DVD/Bluray to be at all comparable. There simply is no way. They are fundamentally different. If people feel the product is too expensive then move on and use one of the other products. No one can make you pay the price. I've used Slysoft programs for years and I've purchased numerous licenses for family and friends as gifts even at the new pricing scheme. I've rarely encountered problems but when they have arisen I have reported them with detailed information and they have been resolved quickly. I can't ask for anything more and I use the software almost daily for my standard DVD collection, HD-DVD collection and BluRay collection. There is simply nothing else like AnyDVD and they are constantly improving it.

Almost all DVD decrypters available use the more stable and compatible Stand Alone Application model. AnyDVD and DVD43 might be the only ones that do not, and as a result, they are indeed unique. In this case, being unique is not a positive. As described on their own forums, ongoing problems with packet-writing software hang around the neck of AnyDVD like a leaden weight. There are other reported bugs that as of this version have not been fixed. Given the extremely high price of this application and the tech support staff that it funds, there is no excuse for these types of issues to be present. Based on Value and Compatibility alone, a rating of 1 for this product is still warranted.

DudeBoyz's awareness in reviewing every single alpha, beta, gamma or final build makes me think he really has some other interests than just "make ppl aware of this program's weaknesses", tbh. PS: Reviewing every single build, even beta ones, repeating all the same things every time, is just a pointless way to try to force the score up/down. Personally I'm happy with the program and reviewed it some time ago...I had to put a rating to make this reply, so... I just find it would be quite a bit useless (and not fair on the average score should this become a daily post) to come here and put a 5-star rating on every single daily revision. Same goes for the opposite, IMHO. Such awareness really makes me think there could be something else than just the matter of dealing the community a service.

This one is the Michael Bolt of the DVD-rippers. Beats the others on its socks.

No other program can handle BRD better. This program handles the Hi-Def format better than any program available. No other can touch what AnyDVD can do with a BRD. They recently cracked AACSv9 with another update. As I said in the past, it was and still is worth every penny I paid for it. It has single handedly enhanced my home theater setup far more than any other software program could have (TVersity takes a close second). 5/5

AnyDVD has a life time update policy, not upgrades as you can read here: http://www.slysoft.com/en/purchase.html. The HD compatibility is an upgrade, not an update. Let me say this again, the HD component is an upgrade, not an update. And as such, you have to buy the upgrade. I lurk on their forum quite a bit so I know what is going on. If there is a bug with AnyDVD, they fix it. I can't stress that enough. I haven't seen any bugs which haven't been dealt with one way or another. AnyDVD allows you to use any other ripper (besides its own). With AnyDVD enabled in the background you can use DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, CloneDVD2, Nero Recode, etc etc. Heck, I am sure if you disabled all of DVDFabs decrypting options you could use AnyDVD to do all the hard work. Anyway, this is another great release. My home theatre system has been updated and all is fine!

Rated 50/50 by Metshrine at Sep 19, 2008

Still cannot be touched by any application when it comes to removal of DVD or BRD protections. Heck, the latest version even updated a known HD-DVD protection. I still have yet to see a single application which can handle BRD in any fashion that removes protections. If you have an HTPC, this is a great addon. If you just want to remove protections, it's the best in that category as well. Price aside, this program cannot be touched by any other program in the realm.

Rated 10/50 by DudeBoyz at Sep 19, 2008

Still buggy and not worth the huge expenditure unless you are almost exclusively using it to work with Blu-Ray disks. There are many other programs that handle DVD ripping better than AnyDVD does and there is no reason to purchase anything from Slysoft if all you want to do is work with regular DVD's. There are fantastic Stand-Alone executable programs, some free some not, that can give you all that you need without any of the issues that the AnyDVD driver model presents. If for some reason you are insistent on using a driver model approach, there is also a free alternative to AnyDVD that can do that just fine. Given this, the only thing that AnyDVD has to offer is HD-DVD and BLU-RAY support. If you do not need to rip HD-DVD or BLU-RAY media, then don't even give this buggy, ultra-expensive option a single glance. It's impossible to cost-justify any other way.
