One of the great things about running x64 Components and Win7 Codecs is that the author, Shark007, really tries hard to make his applications work better than any other applications out there. And to do so, he constantly tries to find ways to make the applications better. When he does, he releases a new version. Recently, his new versions have been coming out twice or three times a week, One of the disadvantages or running Shark007's application is that new versions are released frequently. It wouldn't be so bad if installing the new versions were as easy as downloading and executing the new versions, but that cannot be done. To install a new version, you must first uninstall the old. So, when Shark007 comes out with a new version of Win7 Codecs and x64 Components, you must do the following in this order, all running as administrator ... 1. Uninstall x64 Settings (if you uninstall Win7 Codecs first, you will not be able to uninstall x64). 2. Uninstall Win7 Codecs 3. Install New Version Win7 Codecs 4. Install New Version x64 Settings. The whole process takes between 5 and 6 minutes. While I would hope that Shark007 would shorten the process, I suspect that he will not. He has stated publicly that he has decided to leave the process as it is. I'm sure he has valid reasons for this ...but I'm sure this will keep a lot of people away from his software. Win7 Codecs must be on your machine or x64 Components will not run. For the College or University educated, it is a prerequisite. When I was installing the latest version of Win7 Codecs, I was a bit dismayed to notice that Shark007 has added an OPTIONAL "Bing Toolbar" to his application. Being optional, of course, you are allowed to uncheck the option to install Bing. I did so. I am very sorry that Shark007 has added this option. Unfortunately, he set it up so you must opt out, the box by default is checked. I would have preferred the box not being checked by default, allowing the user to check it if

I did not get a chance to use the program When I looked at the program, it was listed as FREE, once downloaded I find out this program will not run unless you pay either $39 or $59. I thought this program was misleading. On the first download page it shows this program is free. It didn't say free to evaluate. The evaluation shows up after you install this program. If it's free that's one thing if it requires a fee then that's different. I don't like dealing with companies that are dishonest or misleading. This program looks like it maybe worth buying however they need to be honest and upfront.

The current update frequency is mostly related to my need to become compliant with the FFmpeg licensing under the GPL 2.0 - Development of my software is an ongoing process so each release is an improvement over the last and the updates are still coming.

Use Shooter Player. It has all the codecs built in and is compact, light, and chalk full of features. WMP is bloatware! If a codec pack is needed, go with K-Lite Codec Pack (64-bit) instead.

@Uriel How is WMP bloatware? Doesn't have any ad's attached to it, and this codec pack doesn't change any system files or replaces microsoft default codecs(unless checked by user). I only use this to default x64 player and to play .mkv files.

Shark007-The Best Codec Pack Available Bar None! Each revision brings new and updated codecs. Shakr007 always stays on top of the latest codec releases and updates his software accordingly.

Excellent Codec Pack Bar None! Software settings is optimal from Novice Users-who can simply select "Shark007 Suggested Settings", to more Experienced Users- who wants to customize the settings. Update Notification lets you know when your installation is out of date and notifies you if a newer version is available. Particular note is this Codec's ability to easily allow you to stream MKV, AVI, MPEG, MP4, H264 Audio-Video files from your PC to your Media Center TV in High Definition. Answer on Update Frequency: Why does Shark007 updates his Codec's very often. Because Codec Development is constant ever changing and Shark007 implements the latest versions in his software updates.

I choose k-lite because it's feature filled and does everything I need it to besides having problems with recent .mkv files in mpc-hc it's beautiful.... WMP is bloatware it uses damn near 100MB of ram while you'll see mpc-hc is more efficient performing the same tasks using less resources

Malware infested garbage. Installs bing toolbar, windows search toolbar , and tries to install services WITHOUT telling the user it is doing so. I'm glad I keep software running that tells me anytime a program tries to install services.

Going back to the K-Lite one. This won't work if UAC is switched off, and is getting more unstable not less. WARNING: Adware!

Windows 7 has played everything I've thrown at it out of the box. No more need for these codec packs that screw up your system. If you do need a codec get it individually, avoid these stupid packs.

Rated 10/50 by tickleonthetum at Feb 9, 2011

Causes no end of problems if UAC is disabled, so you MUST have UAC enabled and the author won't remove that requirement. Stick with K-Lite...

This installs all manner of adware/search bars, even if you select not to do it. Also needs specific uninstall or will trash your playback. In fact, I carefully followed the uninstall and had problems. Acronis True Image fixed that in a few minutes. If you need a codec to play something, find that codec and leave the packs to others.

this website is very good, you can go and see it http://www.shoes4world.com/

Many releases ago this was really good imho. Now my opinion is: do-not-install-it! As already pointed out by ghammer, you'll get some unwanted junk software installed, even if you disable that option. I've got changed even the default search engine in Firefox address bar. I would hadn't installed this c***p. With VLC I could already play eerything.

Pure junk with forced spyware!! Hijacks your browser setting.

Rated 10/50 by jetz at Aug 19, 2011

Nothing but junk with forced malware!! Even all his fanboyz are uninstalling this and switching to KLite!!

Rated 10/50 by Betanoob at Aug 19, 2011

Even if this didn't have the forced toolbar, this is still the worst codec pack on the planet.
