"So far the best mp3 tag editor I've used" It has the option of editing both IDTag 1 and 2. It even edits tags on damaged mp3 files and allows for easy batch editing of all fields. Shows a preview before renaming files using the tag info, which helps alot in avoiding mistakes. Totally free! It's interface is not intuitive, but if you have used other similar programs you'll have no problem customizing its settings. An excellent piece of software that facilitates the usually laborious task of editing mp3 tags. Totally recomended.

Everything you can think of with regards to editing tags is taken care of here. Rename files based on tags, vice versa, online tag information search, manual editing, AND MUCH MORE. I find this a little more easier to understand too! Although many might find this difficult, this one is very much better than the older versions! I have nothing to complain against this one, considering how other softwares in this category perform!! :D When you point at the icons, it would give you information on their functions in the bottom bar of the window, so that is one way of learning the software. Once you have unveiled the secrets of this baby, this is the best and fastest way of updating the tag information of your music. And nothing impresses me more than an MP3 names proper, tagged proper with the relevant cover art embedded for better visual feel!!! TagScanner does it better than anything else out there, and this is FREE!! Updated on Aug 16, 2009 Another very useful feature I realised the new version has is the ability to DESELECT or SELECT all the tracks that show up in the online search result. Trust me, this is something really useful when you realise that you want to update the info for a single song while you had to manually deselect all the possible tracks in an album result. With the new one, simple click of a button does the trick.

+/- Lack of menu's is odd at first, but definitely a cool "feel" to the program. + It Actually does what it claims. + It Supports Win2K, unlike other unmentionables that purposely broke Win2K support. + Fairly intuitive interface. +/- Uses its own theme Consistently, so perfectly legible. (Ignores System Colours) +/- Lack of ToolTips, but displays info in the StatusBar. Missing: Ability to sort File Lists by multiple fields, ie, Click on Album, and it is secondarily sorted (automatically) by Track#. ie, Click on Artist, now it is secondarily sorted (automatically) by Title. I'd much rather be able to s*** click on successive fields, to choose the sorting method, and be able to save the sort method as a "Sort Preference", which would enable you to set up a handful of different sorting methods, and quickly change between them. No option to enable menu's, nor any keyboard shortcuts therein, is a negative in my books. Thus the way the File List is displayed, the only field that can be renamed from there is the Filename, and only with F2. Double-clicking when the mouse is on a given field causes the song to play, instead of editing the item. Though I think if it at least had multifield sort, the lack of Menu's & keyboard shortcuts could be overlooked, and would easily bump this up to 4.5 - 5.

"Feature Packed" Powerful app, fast. Definitely on my list of best freeware. Interface takes getting used to (not typical windows style). Make copies of your tunes and alter them first - until you get used to Tagscanner. Love it. If you prefer self-managing your music files, hard to beat this. Much prefer this to TuneUp

Without having someone else tag your stuff the way you want, it doesn't get any easier. As well, there's a zip version and neither has paypal options like mp3tag's only installer which btw is an awful gui but does have some nice features alas. Bugs may come & go but this prog is indispensible.

I find it quite odd this program makes a constant HTTP connection to fe20-1.hc.ru. Likely for checking for new version - but after it checks, the connection should be closed... not remain until you are forced to kill it with NirSoft's CurrPorts.

"Fast, fun and functional." If there was ever a program that I enjoyed learning to use then this is the one. It does all that one needs to tag and organize music files along with renaming files. I totally agree with the editors on this one (as usual). And it's free! There are no cons to report Great program...one of the best!

"Tagscanner 5.1 is SWEET" They improved on the already good 5.0. I was having issues in 5.0 with certain tag info that wasn't being written into the ID3 tag. 5.1 solved that issue nothing so far

Absolutely brilliant program. I'm not a big fan of skins but at least they've done it so it doesn't impact the responsiveness of the program (unlike, for example, FarceStone Image Viewer). Program isn't -instantly- understandable, at least it wasn't for me, but it's only a ten minute learning curve. Whatever. Five stars and kudos for being free.

- Allows you to tag using file names, or name files using tags. - Allows you to create custom tag attributes that can be applied to all of the working files, including all kinds of handy wildcards. - fixes the files which should, but can't be tagged. There's a small learning curve, but hey - no software is 100% intuitive. This software not only gives you a very fluid way to tagging your audio files, from file names, or by typing in your own tag attributes with wildcards, but it also fixes those files which you can't tag (for whatever reason.) Tagscanner is exactly what I needed for my audio collection, and it's free to boot!

"Works great" This utility helps clean-up your MP3 files, no muss, a little fuss, but works great. Interface can be a bit confusing when attempting renaming you MP3's correctly. Worth the download and time to test for yourself.

"easy to use and does what is required" easy rename and tag writing nothing really

"Outstanding!" Very easy to use; uses a custom skinned interface that is pleasing to use. Features are straightforward and easy to figure out. Best of all, it does what it does fast and accurately. None so far. Read the Pros -- that is the bottom line.

I've used several tag and rename tools in the past and found that I had to do too much of the typing for a tool that was billed as automated. Do not have that same problem with TagScanner. Does a great job fixing tags and file names automatically. Must be certain that the tag info matches the available music tracks. I've bombed a few folders with the wrong song tag on the wrong song track. There is an undo feature, but once you've updated the file name you are committed. With TagScanner, I highlight a folder with for a given music artist, search against Amazon or one of the other available online, update the tags followed by the file names. This is exactly the tool that I've been looking for to manage a 2 Terabyte digital music collection.

"Great Free Program" Easy to use. Easy to locate your music files. And its' FREE. The visual interface, makes the program look old. I would recommend you try this product

Rated 50/50 by JrAdrock at Dec 30, 2009

ITS FREE!!!!!! I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT!!!!! Taking the time to learn how powerful this program is because of lack of instructions. I breezed through 200 gigs of music! Yes 200 Gigs. That doesn't include 70 gigs of karaoke music. This program helped me realize that around 20% of my music had NO ID3 tags. That meant 20% of my music was basically useless to my DJ program. At first I though I could use this program to manually fill in the ID3 tags. Then I figured out how to get tag scanner to auto populate the information. It was so fast. Some file names were to short to accurately fill in the ID3 info, but that was easy to handle. I used the free db scan to get what I was looking for when I lacked vital information. I was able to fix all the Artist names to be uniform. (eg. Brooks,Garth back to Garth Brooks etc.) Once everything was uniform I renamed every single filename to include all important information for future needs. That took a matter of minutes! My music is so clean now. I used the .cdg function as well for my karaoke music. This allowed me to clean all my karaoke music up and make it uniform to my DJ music for searching. It simply changes the .cdg file to mirror the mp3 file. For those familiar with Karaoke music, you will know that an .MP3 that doesn't match the .CDG will not allow the graphics to work with the music. This program changes the .cdg behind the scenes whenever you make a change to the mp3 file. DON'T FORGET TO MAKE SURE THIS OPTION IS CHECKED IN THE SETTINGS! OR YOU WILL BE VERY UNHAPPY!!!! I tried Dr.Tag and thought it was junk! This program is free and does everything Dr.Tag does. This program requires you to figure it out on your own and it can seem overwhelming at first. STICK WITH IT! Build a test folder by copying some of your music to do some playing around. You won't believe what you can do. I mastered this program and can say that it is amazing. Once you figure it out you to will be amazed. I tell everyone I know with big and small mu
