Excellent software. Only lack of aplication is that can't scan inside iso images. Also, it would be nice to make search window to be on top, or possibility to see only search window when aplication is minimized. I have used ADC, but whereisit is the best cataloging software.

Pointless, over priced, crap! This wouldn't even install on W7 Pro 64bit. Not only does it not work correctly, but it is a waste of space as it does nothing more than what your built in search does.

Pointless, over priced, crap! This wouldn't even install on W7 Pro 64bit. Not only does it not work correctly, but it is a waste of space as it does nothing more than what your built in search does. @F1Racer Wow. You are so sadly wrong! It does not work. I have tried on three installs of W7 Pro 64 bit. Also, it is still pointless. Most people would know that something is on a dvd/cd and not their HD. Sorry that you have to have a daily list of when to use the restroom. Sadly, this is still pointless and over priced for something that DOES NOT WORK!

This would not install on my Windows 7 64 bit either. I agree with gawd that this is crap and they are charging to much for as little as it does.

gawd21: You don't know what you're talking about. It does install on Win7-64bit because I'm running it right here. I've used this software for years. So it can only do what the Windows Search does eh ? Ok ask your Windows Search to locate something you catalogued on a CD/DVD/External HDD 3 years ago. It can't ! This is for locating files that are on media that are stored away, not what is currently on your computer. jeez. If you want to compare a program to the windows search the do that with Locate32. Even then Locate32 is far better because the results are instant, unlike windows search which has to scan every time. I've been using WhereIsIt for many years now and its just invaluable. If I want to find a file on an external HDD or DVD that might is stored away somewhere it tells me where it is and saves me the hassle of going through all my stuff which would be frustrating and take ages.

I have been using WII? to catalog backup media dating back more than 12 years (nevermind that some of the CDs have become unreadable; at least I still know what I've lost) and the catalog files themselves are now over a gigabyte, spanning some 600 DVD. With that many media, WII? is the fastest way I can find, say, img9803120001.jgp or that old backup of Paintshop Pro 3 or where I have stored the best quality version of xxxx.mp3 and so on. I love the option to save previews of many file types with the catalog, but unfortunately between versions I found myself unable to find that option again (there are definitely too many options for some things you can do) and missed saving previews on several thousand jpgs. 5 stars for the program minus 1 for, well, clustering too many options.

Everything else is a toy compared to Where-Is-It. Its feature-set puts it way beyond simply cataloging your cds and dvds. I would be lost without it.

I have tested this software and it was much faster and has more options then advanced disk catalog for example. Where is it works fine for me under windows 7 x64 as well. BUT! after intensive testing I decided to buy the software and support the author. The orderingprocess was a mess! Robert Galle (the coder of where is it) seems to be a sick paranoid. Let me explain. If you order a (cheaper) online license to have to use a emailadress like this "name@your-company.xxx". Freemailservices are not accepted! After my first try to order a online license for 39$ I got "blacklisted" because "my user details are invalid". Wow! You (and I did so too) have to input all your private data _even_ a phonenumber (but he himself does not offer one on his website / domaindetails) is required! (just to remember, here we talk about a software that is (mostly?) for private users and 40$ cheap!). Anyway. First try failed. Then second try. I ordered a CD-ROM (+6$) because if you choose this option you can use freemailadress (that I use for example for paypal too). Guess what happend...? YES! Again the order was rejected because of blacklisted userdata. (Tried to contact the author via mail, no answer! (maybe because he has blacklisted all freemailproviders!?)). Mister Robert Galle, your software is a good one but the "service" you offer for ordering is maximum user unfriendly, paranoid and sick! So what to do now? Searching the web for a manipulated / pirated version? Maybe the author want this! GOOD SOFTWARE, BULLs*** SERVICE!

This is a nice program. It's elegant, and well done in every way. However, I just don't get the relevance or usefulness of Where Is It. Programs like Everything are free, ligntining fast, and do all the file finding and wrangling I could possibly want.
