Becky! Internet Mail is a multi-featured E-mail client specialized for Windows and the Internet. You will find many features which are expected for an Internet E-mail software, and some of them would be beyond your expectations.

Not a bad client, but The Bat still trumps it.

They need an UI update. Other than that its a fine client. Does what it says, no bloat.

Why not just use a free app, such as Windows Live Mail, or Thunderbird? I have used them all, it seems, and apps, Becky, Calypso and such all had their day, but really, too many good free one's now to choose from.

This application used to be my favorite mail client. 4 or 5 years ago it swept the floor with Outlook/Eudora/TheBat and all the other clients. Unique features & functionality (by that time), small footprint, direct POP3 access to the server without downloading mails, multiple accounts were managed with ease, etc, etc. Awfully, it didn't receive any UI or functionality upgrade over these last years, downgrading the user experience. Thunderbird, Claws (on linux), Opera mail client and even Chandler (yeah, it's a PIM, but useful on the comparison) are more decent options. It seems that the developers at RimArts are only focused on fixing bugs, rather than improving the product. What a shame.

Paying for an email client. You must be kidding.

Sure, the UI is bad. But Becky is THE ONLY e-mail client allowing edition of received mail. In some situations, this prove invaluable.

An excellent email client. Some pluses: 1) Becky is the only client to implement a 3-pane vertical layout properly, maximising screen estate. 2) Mail storage can be configured as 1 email = 1 file. Outlook, Thunderbird, Claws and Sylpheed all store mail in single file formats. This makes your mail vulnerable to file corruption. I have Becky storing tens of thousands of emails as individual files. Whne you have seen people lose all their email in Outlook because of file corruption this method of storing becomes a godsend. 3) Attention to detail - right-click on the Forward button and you get the option to Redirect a message. Just one of a number of small things that continue to surprise me 12 months after buying the program. 4) Security - Becky can be configured to show email in text format first, but it is easy t switch to HTML format for those mails you consider trustworthy. 5) Keyboard configurability - second-to-none. 6) Remote mailbox access - Becky allows you to access a POP3 server remotely and delete mail on the server, before downloading it. Very handy if an extra-large email is holding up delivery. 7) Excellent filtering capability These are just some of the reasons I bought Becky. Yes it was 40 dollars, but the price is worth it if you value your email, and don't want to wake up some day to a corrupt Outlook or Thunderbird mail file. If one of my 30,000 mail files becomes corrupted in Becky I lose one mail, not the other 29,999. To my mind this alone is worth the price. Yes Becky could do with a makeover, but don't be fooled by her looks. She's an excellent mail client and the very best I've tried in Windows. But you need to spend time with her to appreciate her strengths and elegance. Don't dismiss Becky after just a short trial.

I second gezley's assessment. Becky is an outstanding e-mail client. I have been using it for years. Great functionality. It's unfortunate the author doesn't update the interface. But my preference is for apps that work. In any event, you can improve the eye-candy of Becky by making (or installing) one of the many icon and title bar files floating around here: http://www.mickeytheman....s/index.php?showforum=4

I've been using Becky for 6 years and I love it. It's fast, flexible, clear, powerful, portable, easy to operate, friendly... and with plugins you can do whatever you need. Template features are awesome. I agree with dgg who states that this is the software that he was using for the longest time. Go Becky!

excellent Edit: One thing I was to mention, while being a excellent piece of software, is it worth $40.00 or whatever it is. There are free applications out there as good as this one. Something to think about. I use Koma mail and windows live mail, both just as excellent as this is in my opinion of course.

On seeing some of the other reviews I checked to see how long I'd been using Becky.. since February 1997. Wow. RC3 is pretty good. Becky certainly looks better under Vista.

Lite, fast and not buggy at all. Some features are pretty nice like warnoptions. But...I do not like that when replying the original malitext is not added to the reply mail (have to copy the text first and paste it, very annoying!) and double-clicking on a mail does only give a view in the preview-area and doesn't open in a new window. When I want to reply I have to go to the toolbar to do this(or Ctrl+R). Searched for this options to change but wasn't able to find. Otherwise, pretty nice but a view things as mentioned must chance for me to let it work decent.

Radiomaffia: go to Tools | General Setup | Citation, and tick "Use template for replying" and untick "Show reference view". To make the ruler invisible set Ruler and Ruler Background in Message View to White. To hide the Tab marks go to Editor | Display and untick Tab + CRLF
