Startup Delayer gives you the power to optimize your Startup Process by delaying applications from starting up as soon as you log into your computer. By delaying the applications during start up, your computer becomes usable a lot faster. Startup Delayer will then start launching your delayed applications when your computer is more idle.

Although total startup might be delayed, you can arrange to have your more important programs start sooner and begin using your computer while less important programs load later after the majority of your system is up and going therefore improving your productivity. This program does a fair job but I prefer another.

I have used Startup Delayer for many years, and am now on the latest version. It solves problems when you have a lot of programs trying to start up at once, such as disappearing icons or strange error messages. I usually have about 8 to 12 icons showing in the tray. If you only have a couple, you may not need it. But it is a life saver for me, and does not increase total startup time if you arrange the time intervals properly, it just keeps programs from tripping all over each other.

Hi, I'm the author and I just wanted to clear some things up. I created Startup Delayer way back in early 2001. So for any of those asking why Startup Delayer exists when there are other applications out there? Well it exists because I was the first one to come up with the idea of delaying applications and hence I created Startup Delayer. Unfortunately I named it literally and therefore it confuses people why you would want to slow your pc down :) I'm thinking of renaming it soon. As to the Interface, sorry the interface has only changed in small amounts of the last...7 years. Hence it looks rather dated still. Thanks for all the comments and reviews though, its good to hear feedback.

The concept behind this application is good. I actually considered developing a similar utility, but then saw the market was sufficiently saturated already. Starting applications in a more consecutive instead of simultaneous manner (the effect of the delays) will indeed improve the responsiveness during system startup, and very likely speed system startup, so long as the delay time is set correctly. The real trick for users will be to determine what the optimal delay time is for your system. It will vary for each system, though there's likely a value that works well 'most of the time'. A good addition to any software like this would be the ability to self-optimize the delay factor.

Some people have whined that I wasn't specific enough about reporting bugs I complain about, so here is a 10-second test: 1. Set a shortcut in the Startup folder to have a particular and non-default "Start in" directory. 2. Install and run Startup Delayer. 3. Set a delay for the shortcut in step 1 using Startup Delayer, then click the "Start Over" button to remove the delay. The net effect of this is that the Startup shortcut will have been deleted and then recreated, with its information (supposedly) recorded in the meantime. 4. Note that the original "Start in" directory has been lost, and reset to that of the installation directory. 7 years and still such an obvious bug?

Been using this little beauty for YEARS and can't imagine living without it. I'm a nut about having my startup apps line up 'just so' in my tray, and this utility allows me to accomplish just that. THANKS, Cliff ! ! ! Keep up the great work !

@ Undesired Username. For 'such an obvious bug' this is actually the first I've heard about it! I do have a Contact page on the website where you're more than welcome to report this. I'll have this one fixed for the next beta release. Perhaps if you have any more obvious bugs that you'd like to report, you could send them to me there? I don't often scour the comment pages on the various software archives that my software is available on.

Not a bad program. A better use of your time: 1. Reduce the number of times that you start your machine. sleep it, hibernate it, etc. 2. Put your startup programs on as many different physical disks as you can. 3. Get more cores. Each new core will help with multiple programs running in sync.

Like it a lot. Is there any way to start with "Running Tasks" window. It is better task manager than most programs.

Been using this for god knows how long and its one of those programs i install on every PC i use. Great free program that does what its designed to do VERY well, and thats rare. Makes your system usable more quickly and efficiently than the default "every startup program runs at once" in windows. This is one simple function you would have thought Microsoft would have built in by now..... Easy 5, deserves higher

Why not just stop the programs/services from starting unless you need them? On my desktop, I have 36 process that run when it is started and it is running W7 Pro 64 bit, my other W7 Pro 64 bit laptop has 26. It takes less that 20 seconds for my desktop to boot and about the same for my laptop!

Very useful app. However, it would be more useful if it was portable. Lots of times a computer is infected or not real accessible, and being portable would make it easier to access and get started cleaning it. 1 star off for not being portable, still highly recommended.

I'm with gawd21 on this one:- It's possible in 'Services' to delay the start-Up of a program. Unless you are running an ancient PC or you have heaps of start ups, which you should sort out anyway. I have no use for this program. Good PC housekeeping is the answer. However you may think differently - Fair enough.
