CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware.

Yea, Since when was the hotfix uninstaller removed! Down 2 points for removing a feature, and keeping it quiet! Noted 'The Seeker 11', perhaps it is now an OS Varient. I am using Vista Ultimate *64, and it does not show.

This is an excellent tool. I depend on it almost daily to help out friends and family. Purging the junk out of the registry always seems to help when the are having issues.

I don't know why people say inane things like "the one and only tool in this area" (because it's not), but it's free and relatively effective... But you already knew that. I won't give it a 5 because it has no command line support (that I'm aware of), and it is very limited in how it does certain things (for example, you can either delete all Flash cookies or none of them). Its list of applications is also pretty limited (compared to, for example, R-Wipe&Clean, which yes, I know is shareware--but the point stands). The registry cleaner component in CCleaner is the safest of its kind that I know of, however. P.S. To "buffbone": The optional Yahoo! Toolbar component is still included.

Excellent software that gets even better with each version, yet avoids the bloat that so often accompanies new releases.

I have really come to rely on this program. I no longer use WinDoctor from Norton because it just doesn't seem to work as well as it used to. I still use EasyCleaner 2, which is also free, but it has not been updated much at all in recent times. By contrast, CCleaner seems to be updated frequently. CCleaner is highly configurable, lets you choose which cookies to keep during a sweep, and I'm very glad to see they still offer the "Slim Version" for download in their Other Downloads section: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds As this app is developing, I'm finding it harder and harder to find flaw with it. It really does seem to be about as rock solid as I could wish for, and the fact that it is still free and offers so much value is pretty amazing. Well done, and please, keep up the good work.

Simply the best no cost disk cleaner around. Before you click the 'Buy Now' button for another utility, try CC first. CC is flexable, complete and reliable. Throw in the ability to create custom inclusions and exclusions and you couldnt ask for anything more really. Portable: http://www.ccleaner.com/...ds/downloading-portable Slim Installer (no Yahoo): http://www.ccleaner.com/...builds/downloading-slim

@ilev Why don't you check the authors site before review? Here you can get the portable version.
Rated 10/50 by ilev at Sep 25, 2008
why the application isn't portable ?

Love it - wish it would "remember" the additional options selected during the previous install. @MarcFou - Thanks!

Still missing some features... -Wipe empty space on disks and make data unrecoverable. -Internal updater for the program itself. -Detect newly installed programs, that were installed after Ccleaner.

Personally, I haven't found anything better. rhinohide - why the cheap shot at Microsoft? Pointless and not relevant.

ilev, why didn't you try to find what you want to find before you write bulls*** and give minimal score? CCleaner IS portable. Just check its web site more thorough.

I agree, simply the best. That's a good way of putting it because this fine utility is SIMPLE to use and they don't clutter up the interface adn add bloatware with each release like some other tool writers tend to do. They just keep it up to date and fix any bugs. MSFT could learn a lot from these guys. Go to the Options, choose Include and add any directories that you tend to use for temporary files. 5/5 and has been for a LONG TIME. I've been using it for a long time and every release I've used has been good. Go DONATE some money to these guys. Give em a few bucks for their hard work.

@osric - Clean after itself (OS), yes. Thats why there is Disk Cleanup. Clean after other programs, no. Thats better suited for 3rd party programs.
Rated 50/50 by osric at Sep 29, 2008
@BarneyR: Well for the simple reason that this application exists due to a shortcoming in Window$. There does exist a disk cleanup utility in Window$, but it is seriously lacking in features. Isn't an operating system expected to clean up the mess created by itself and other softwares?

http://indeego.com/hotfixccnotthere.png Hotfix uninstaller shows up for some people and not others. Not sure why this is, but it's a bug.
