To anomoly: "Anybody that uses foobar should use eac to rip their disc." Um, who said I was ripping a CD. Where exactly does it say that in my post? I want to PLAY a CD. If I put the CD in, Foobar should AUTOMATICALLY access freedb and populate the track titles. XMplay does this. Winamp does this. Windows Media Player does this. It's not rocket science. READ. Then reply. FIVE stars but a ways to go in comprehending the term "user friendliness" although progress has been made.

Best Media player on Windows hands down!

I was an avid supporter of foobar before and I still think it's a very good player, but the recent politics of getting rid of unwanted plug-ins by just removing the supported hooks look a bit like dictatorship to me...

Does the job of playing many types of music files, great sound, the best music player on the market, bar none.

Best player for windows.

I have been using Foobar for a long time. It's a lean player, utilizes a much smaller memory footprint than it's highly graphical GUI counterparts. I personally don't want, or need, a highly graphical interface. I just need a stable player, that plays major formats & CD's, that sounds great. *** K.I.S.S. = Keep it Simple stupid ***

Like jorgosch I too am less than impressed with the people thinking that chasing terrestrial out of the foobar community for what they claim was a poorly written plug-in (which also happened to be the most popular one) is appropriate. While the player is and has been top notch I just can't respect the elitist mentality that has seen someone over at the foobar forums even lock down any threads dealing with PanelsUI. Then they have the nerve to try and replicate someone else's work who they were so negative towards! Whether the plugin was poorly written or not or created some kind of security threat to the user that SHOULD be the users choice. As long as I can update the plugins and keep my core I will do so otherwise thanks Peter for v9.5.2 because it does everything I WANT it to do but like I said the player itself is by far the best but -1 for the creators doing their best steve jobs impersonation

Love the player, quality, lightness, support. Only think for me is, I cannot figure out (if there is even a way to do so) to hide the media library viewer and just have a small play, stop, skip bar in a very small compact window. Best audio player out there though bar none.

Best player around both in terms of sound quality and flexibility. UI sucks tho.

Once again, Peter has proven his commitment to good quality by adding new, wonderful features and removing old, obsolete functions that slow down the program and promote poor development practice. There is no better audio player, and there hasn't been in years.

Foobar is a decent MP3 player (and nothing else), but Peter Pawlowski seriously needs to learn respect. There is a reason why he was asskicked away from Winamp.

It is getting MUCH harder for me to nitpick this app. :) :) ;) Auto freedb on cd insert? Please? Excellent work! FIVE stars.

It may be flexible and powerful and all that happy horsecrap, but its interface is a crime against humanity. I'm still trying to figure out how to view/edit lyrics with foobar2000 without using something like MiniLyrics.

Good sound. Good architecture. Utterly Pathetic UI for an app developed in the 21st century - you'd think it was designed by one of those propeller-headed Linux weenies who terminally can't spell "UI". Now that the player mechanics are done, It is mandatory that the author find someone who knows how to design a GUI (and the niceties appellate to one) to develope a simple but effective skinning engine so that the exterior of the player lives up to the interior subsystems. It's my mainstay and gets a FIVE for the audio quality, ASIO and WASAPI support but it SERIOUSLY is in desperate need of a facelift. It doesn't lose points for the GUI only because I'm hoping the author will get a clue and remedy the situation. I'm sure the Anti-GUI fanboiz will rage at this but the words "Grow Up" are the most charitable comment that can be aimed at them. PS: Still no auto-freedb for playing CDs - a silly omission at best (I'm being polite).

Foobar2000 is good. It does what it says on the box. It is above average. It is, quite simply good. Thus, 4-stars. Frankly, no, I don't think it's excellent. I don't think it's superior in every way. I don't think it is the uber example of what a player really can and should be. It had the potential to go through some serious and meaningful development with components that were forcefully made obsolete by a nearly facist regime move on the part of the dev(s). This was tragic, and left me with a very, very sour taste in my mouth for this app. While it isn't nearly as polished, I've moved over to Songbird, which at least has a transparent and truly collaborative development. And, frankly, Songbird, and it's community, lack the ego and megalomania that surrounds FB2K. Which is rather refreshing.

It amazes me that someone could severely criticize the GUI and then still rate it a 5. Yes, I understand that the software does a lot, and that the sound quality is great. But if it's a pain in the rump to use, doesn't that count for at least .6 star? If not--if the crappy GUI is not even worth docking .6 star--then it's also not a point worth mentioning (so thoroughly and emphatically) in the first place. I switched from J. Retard Media Center and am so used to that program's handy "Playing Now" feature, it took me a long time to get my bearings with foobar2000. I eventually got it figured out, but it was much more hassle than it should have been.

Archamazing program! It has the only minus - it isn't os-independent.

as perfect as an audio application can be.

I've heard about foobar being minimalistic audio player. It is and please take it as it is. Add skinning, internet radios, video and some other features and people start looking for some other minimalistic audio player :).
