Paint.NET by Paint.NET Team Screenshot Paint.NET Screenshot

Paint.NET is image and photo manipulation software designed to be used on computers that run Windows. It supports layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the MS Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple tool for photo and image editing. The programming language used to create Paint.NET is C#, with a small amount of C++ for installation and shell-integration related functionality.Paint.NET is freeware, but the team is accepting donations here.

Reasonably easy to use. the help file while good it is not great! I'd prefer having the help file on my system rather than on the web. Trying to discover how to make the background transparent was almost impossible thus I'd say that the help file is a bit on the poor side. The help file was good about showing the icon for a function but often I had no idea where the icon was located within the application.

I am a pro photo and this is not a Photoshop replacement for me. However, this tool is great for people who don't need a full-blown photoshop. If you use Photoshop Elements, then you should consider this tool. Paint.net is MUCH easier to use than the GIMP.

Paint. Net has everything a real human being would need to work on his photos. there is no huge, long-term investment in learning where the tools are or how to use them. The price is outrageous! It's free to use! How dare they make a great product and then practically give it away! Get this application and use it. Then send those nice people some real cash money. They deserve it.

Paint.NET v3.5.5 - Download, released on April 25th, 2010 This update fixes a bug when saving 8-bit images, improves layer composition and Gaussian Blur performance, and is now updated to support the new .NET Framework 4.0 in some cases. * Fixed the bug where saving as 8-bit PNG/GIF/BMP wasn't always working, usually with larger images. * Improved the performance of the Gaussian Blur effect by 30-40%. * Improved the performance of all the layer blending modes by 15-30%. * Improved the performance of zooming with the mouse wheel on dual-core Intel Atom systems. * Updated to support .NET 4.0 if no other version of .NET is installed. * Reduced download size from 4.8MB down to 3.5MB. * Fixed a small error in the Chinese translation. Please note that the system requirements have been updated. For Windows XP, you must now have Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed; SP2 is no longer supported. For Windows Vista, you must now have Service Pack 1 installed.

Small program, more features than MS Paint, familiar interface with other MS programs. Handles almost every major non-proprietary graphics format. The layer tool greatly improves working with images over basic image editors. Not as full featured as more expensive programs and lacks some of the tools that you may want. No support for importing some proprietary graphics formats (i.e. .psd). Paint.net offers everything you have in the stock MS Paint, with some additional tools to ease the graphics editing experience. It lacks some of the Photoshop/Paint Shop experience that you may be looking for such as the ability to edit text within the same line or after another tool has been selected. Some of the other features are also scaled down, but for the price you can't complain.

Friends I told about it to love it also. can't curve text for my logo or image work for websites...? This is one great piece of software.. giving photoshop elements a run for it's money.. No KIiding..!!

I find adding text and arrows, straight and curved, easier than Paint and Photoshop After adding text, before saving the photo, I have to add ".jpg" I'm sure this was not so on earlier versions.

Easy to use, FREE, powerful none that I've found The best FREE graphics program I have found

Numerous plug-in available; Switching between projects is pretty effortless Auto enhance feature is not that good; Layer can't be changed by mouse dragging Image manipulation is easily done due to the familiar interface, adequate number of effects and plug-ins. Switching between projects is done just by clicking a thumbnail at the top corner of the interface. However, the auto enhance feature is weak, producing a rather exaggerated effects on the pictures (e.g. brightness & contrast too high). The inability to drag layer with a mouse (use up & down button instead) is a minor inconvenience.

I used to have this program and left it for GIMP after a CNET recommendation but I came back to Paint.Net because I do a lot of retouching old photos and it simply does an outstanding job of that. And with one touch too. Gimp is better if you are in to special effects. If you want to retouch or restore old photos this is the best of the free programs i have tried. If your thing is special effects try GIMP. This program is very easy to use and I have used it a lot. Highly Recommended.

I didn't find anything negative. Itis easy to use even at the age of 78. The same as my cons.

Can't tell it refused to install As above - it will not install. The previous version was excellent and I was looking forward to seeing this latest version but despite many attempts and all sorts of jiggery-pokery to try to make it install it just will not.

User friendly; a great basic program for learning how to enhance graphics and photos with a variety of features; covers a number of graphical extensions. Help file is written in layman's terminology and easy to follow and understand. As a beginner of PSP programs, I don't know of anything at this time. I've had the Paint.NET program for approximately six months. I'm not only impressed with the ease of use, but also the frequent updates to the program. Each update offers more features and improvements. It is worth making a donation to this Free program to help further its development. There are numerous plug-ins to cover more advanced techniques; and the support team is very good. With each update, Paint.NET is catching up very quickly with Corel PSP, one of the top programs for manipulating photos and enhancing other graphics. I've recommended Paint.NET to several friends who have also enjoyed using it. I highly recommend this program to beginners in PSP. The various PSP programs can be expensive, as well as a bit overwhelming for someone who is just learning how to enhance photos and other graphics.

Definitely a good painting tool. Lack of photo editing features. Nice to have

I find that many advanced features commonly associated with pricey (Adobe, etc) software are also available in Paint.NET, making it a no-brainer. The website has good support where you can look up the specific tools/tasks you need right now. Initially, the layers, etc. that provide some advanced capabilities can be a little confusing.

good support on web site, lots of plug in's, move from project to project no problem. Good number of effects little slow loading I found but can live with it. Over all this is a great program 5 for 5 stars

it's like photoshop, only free. and more user friendly. and there's less load time. it does not have a magic paintbrush that i've found a very nice, cheap alternative to photoshop. i recommend it to everyone.
