Paint.NET is image and photo manipulation software designed to be used on computers that run Windows. It supports layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the MS Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple tool for photo and image editing. The programming language used to create Paint.NET is C#, with a small amount of C++ for installation and shell-integration related functionality.Paint.NET is freeware, but the team is accepting donations here.

"Just about the best for texting" I design flyers for charitable organizations. After finalizing the graphics in PS or PSP, I use Paint exclusively for simple texting. Super easy and fast visibility enabling you to change the font and/or size displayed changes until you decide. I preferred the ants but OK. Limited applications but great freeware especially for the purpose outlined. Very user friendly.

"Could open the zip file" Easy install Requires brain... those that try to open zip files with MSPaint should just turn off their computers and go to bed.

Dependence on DOT NET is a big negative, and GIMP has it all over this program. I see no reason to use this app given the alternatives. Yes, it has some ok features, and it is free, but it certainly is not the best in class - not by a long shot.

"Great Program at a Great Price." Combines features of Paint, MS Picture Manager, & Photoshop. They new way selections are shown would be better either way it was; Colored; or Selectable as a Preference. Would also like the Default Canvas Size to be a Preference & the Tolerance finer. I like all the Tools especitially the Magic Wand.

So wait, you come to a program named "Paint.NET" just to rate it down because it uses .net? Again, all of your reviews seem to have jack to do with the application and instead focus on stuff that has little impact on the usability of the application. Stop being a troll Dudeboyz and rate the application for usability and not some oddball thing like using dot net when ".NET" is in the program title! On that note, Paint.NET is not designed to be a Gimp/Adobe PS replacement but a paintbrush replacement for windows. So comparing it to such tools is laughable and like comparing apples to seaweed. 5/5

"Wonderful program FOR MULTIPROCESSOR SYSTEMS" Paint.NET is far ahead of Windows paint....but it's optimized for multiprocessor systems (see help website). So.... it hogs CPU (5 yr old PC). I capture/edit screen images (to MyNotesKeeper/great pgm) but have to save/reopen image files (ie, min. CPU usage). Would like ability to print all layers at once (create multi-image pdf file using "PDFredirect"/great pgm).
