Paint.NET 3.5.6

Paint.NET by Paint.NET Team Screenshot Paint.NET Screenshot

Paint.NET is image and photo manipulation software designed to be used on computers that run Windows. It supports layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the MS Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple tool for photo and image editing. The programming language used to create Paint.NET is C#, with a small amount of C++ for installation and shell-integration related functionality.Paint.NET is freeware, but the team is accepting donations here.

"Wow...it's great" Easy to use; great text abilities, good for touching up abilities Not quite as broad a range of colors as GIMP. I love it and would recommend this to anyone looking for a free image editor.

"Bitmap editor with awesome tablet pressure sensitivity" Support for non-Wacom tablets, Layers, Very nice color chooser, Simple in ALL the right ways, display size is based on inches even if your resolution is higher than 72dpi (unlike Photoshop & Corel) I wish the default 'new image' dimensions and DPI were configurable; 800x600 96dpi is a little limited. One centralized "Options" panel would be really nice; but simplicity is also nice! Layers are great, but Objects would also be beneficial. This is the best program out there for tablet-based art for people with non-wacom digitizers (such as the Finepoint digitizer found in the Gateway M280-series). This renders perfectly on hardware that even Photoshop & Corel Draw can't handle. <... read more >>

"Annoying with updates I could not remove from list." Did let me know of software that needed updating. Certain software that could not update was unable to remove from list. I removed this application from my computer because it was annoying with it popping up when I would start my PC with a list of software that would not update and I could not manage to remove these software from the list.

"Great only with plugins" Easy, with tutorials, lots of free plugins(very useful), and basically very good for a free program. It's only worthy with the right plugins and effects Learning photoshop is even easier after knowing how to use Paint.NET :)

"A nice program" Free. That's hard to beat for software that does a lot. It wasn't as intuitive as I would have expected. I had to ask how to use the Posterize function because I couldn't figure it out myself, including combing the help sections and googling for an answer.

Still a great program, but no longer Open Source (officially beginning with version 3.5 released November 6, 2009 but informally announced on December 30, 2008 on the developer's forum).

The first thing I noticed after updating to 3.5 was that it loads MUCH more quickly (after the initial launch, anyway). This is great because the previous version took an annoyingly-long time to load on my crappy old system.

Great freeware app that has evolved nicely in a relatively short period of time. Incredibly easy to use and very intuitive. Great for touch-ups, logos, web graphics, simple layering and text effects. Supports third party plugins for additional features, just google "paint.net plugins". @rom8_3139 for missing spray paint feature, simply use the spray paint add-in: (part of plugin pack) http://www.isimonbrown.co.uk/plugin-pack.htm free GIMP "brushes" for the spray paint addin above: http://www.techzilo.com/gimp-brushes free paint.net tutorials: http://www.youtube.com/r...al&orig_query_src=4

By far the most powerful free photo editor, bar none... Nothing worth mentioning for freeware i used to use photoshop, but actually found it quite confusing for an amateur user like myself so I changed to PainNET which is much easier to use, while still allowing giving a bit of prosumer functionality. Changed computer and didn't even bother to install Photoshop again, this is much smaller and does all the simple to medium advanced editing I need. In short, Freeware at its best!

"Great product!" A lot better than I was expecting. Works great with my tablet, too! It has a lot more to offer than expected. None, there's no lag or anything immediately wrong, especially since it is freeware. Paint.NET offers more than Pencil, regular Paint of course, and is simply less confusing than Photoshop. I recommend it to anyone.

"Simple and the Best" Easy to useFastUse effects that require more learning curve in Photoshop and GIMP Too much features (good) ;) Good picture editing software for beginners

"Free and easy to use." Easy & Free None that I can think of. Fairly easy to use, especially for "us" non pro types.

The professional appearance and functionality this project is taking on give me the "about to go shareware" feeling... I hope I'm wrong.

Sure hope you are wrong about your "about to go shareware" feeling.
