Paint.NET is image and photo manipulation software designed to be used on computers that run Windows. It supports layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the MS Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple tool for photo and image editing. The programming language used to create Paint.NET is C#, with a small amount of C++ for installation and shell-integration related functionality.Paint.NET is freeware, but the team is accepting donations here.

"A PC KILLER." could not use the program so could not find anything good about it soon after downloading PAINT.NET my screen showed (PAINT.NET HAS CRASHED) My system was wiped out completely. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

"It isn't as good as the PSPs, but it does some stuff." Easy to use Limited in what you can do... It's okay for things I need done quickly. It won't be replacing my PSP though.

"Great work by the developers." -Very light weight-Lots of features-Layer support Would be good if it has some kind of batch function. For example, automatically resize multiple photos at the same time. It's free and it's good. It meets your everyday photo editing needs. You don't need anymore than this.

"Great product for the price (free)" I work as a web designer and I've been asked by clients to recommend programs that would allow them to do some of their own photo editing. This program is equal to Photoshop Deluxe without the price tag. I've gotten good feedback. It may be too much to ask, but I would like to see an option to change the image mode to and from RGB, CMYK, Indexed color etc.

"Does what I need, easy to learn, and FREE!" Does what I need it to, which at this point is pretty basic stuff. But looks like the fancy stuff is there too! Learning curve seems considerably easier than PhotoShop which I found confusing at first. And it's free- can't beat that with a stick! The "resize image" feature is a bit different than what I'm used to, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Pretty trivial thing! Thanks for making a product like this available to us unemployed broke folks!

"It does what I need very well - and for free!" I am particularly interested in the artistic filters which I find more effective than PhotoShop in some respects. I haven't found anything I don't like yet...

"Great for a freeware..." Lots of editing tools such as an easy resizing tool, effects tool, etc. Very light and stable to install and run. None so far... A very easy to use, light and stable photo editor that is free. :)

"Excellent editor" easy to usetutorials online forum -loads and loads step by stepFREE, no nags!layers (a rarity in freeware)development sponsored by Microsoftwill open multiple graphics at once, cut and paste bits from one to another with ease Some non-standard interface issues, like 'crop' is in a weird place; but it works brilliantly.Forums can be a bit snotty to newbs Capable, reliable graphics editor and much faster to learn than photoshop

"A great photo retouch program with a pro feel to it." Everything seems to be in this application. All the tools for enhancement and image changing. Don't have a real complaint except I don't get around to using half of the tools enough. Nice knowing they are there though. Oh I just prefer this to ACD Photo Canvas so I want to tell somebody about it.

"Not bad for the price (free)... actually quite a deal." This free program seems to be about as sophisticated as Paint Shop Pro was when I first bought it back at version 3.0 for about $60 bucks (plus who knows how much I've shelled out since then for upgrades 4.0 thru 9.0?) Havent really found any major problems as yet, but still learning to use it.

"Cool quick editor" Very efficient, doesn't crash, lots of features Could be easier to use, poor help text, works with layers but you cannot choose to bring a layer forward nor push one back so very limited in that respect considering. Overall for free so far it's the best one I've used, but I do wish they would improve the help text and manipulation / editing of layers. Otherwise it's my preferred free editor.

CAN'T EVEN NAME THEM ALL!! Layers, brushes, effects, color management, image resizing, rotation, flip, canvas size, grids, rulers, droppers, pencils, erasers, many selection tools, a graphic artist dream and it's FREE Haven't found one yet. I've never donated for any free software products before and very rarely keep them for very long. I am donating to this one, this software is a very very generous gift! I lost my copy of photoshop . I had been using the old 7.0 version that I got from a friend and the seriel number was on the install disk, so after aquiring a new computer I couldn't install it. I had images that I needed to edit for business. The base graphic had been designed by someone else I had hired years before and I needed to alter it to fit updated info. I tried a ton of graphic editors and all of them were basically useless for my needs. They were fine for editing some digital photos before printing but had no real design tools. I really needed photoshop but didn't have a couple hundred to spend on it. I finally found this software and was amazed after I installed it. It has all the options of photoshop and basically the same layout so I didn't have to spend time learning the software! I was able to get right to the editing and was able to print my update business cards and get my website up without spending weeks trying to recreate the original artwork!

-Small and compact in settings. -Very good in manipulating pictures and putting a collage together. -New tools updated every now and then. -Fast. -Inane optimiser at the end of installation. -If left not updated for a long period of time can lock up the program. When I was looking for a free image editor I first looked at this and the gimp, when I installed it I first recognised the easy installation but later wards this was killed by the so called "optimisation" at the end of the installation. (I found it quite redundant because if I wanted to properly optimise my system I would rather use a separate program.) Later when I returned with a cup of tea and a piece of cake, it finally finished optimising and I opened the program, I must admit it was very good, it pretty much did the job, and it has a wide range of renders for pictures, like Jpg*Png* etc But overall this program is quite solid and easy to use. Happy hunting for the image program you want!

easy, fast, reliable for working on photos. working with precise layers or complex layouts mixing other things than bitmaps will be difficult or impossible - probably not as complete as PaintShop Pro, but MUCH easier to use, and cleaner interface, with faster startup (not too many plugins, variably supported by various authors, and their various dependencies) For most works, if will be much enough in Windows and its color management and image filters are much enough to keep the image quality (and avoid degradation of JPEG images). However, using transparent layers in Paint.NET is less powerful than in PSP.

"Paint.Net is pretty." I've found Paint.Net to be aesthetically pleasing to use. It also isn't overwhelmingly complex. It's a nice middle ground between Paint and a product like Photoshop. I'm not fond of the advertising that can appear in the installer encouraging donations. I prefer passive donation requests. Paint.Net is simply my favored image manipulation software when it has the power to do what I'd like.

"An excellent replacement for Windows Paint" I think this is a great graphics program, for someone like myself who isn't much of a graphics designer. It probably wouldn't be for someone used to Photoshop, but I think it is fine basic graphics editing. This program probably won't appeal to somone who is familiar with Photoshop, but then again it isn't meant to compare to Photoshop. An excellent, basic graphic editing program.

"Enables collages but isn't flexible orienting printout." Layers allows me to place pictures side-by-side; sizing lets me match one pic to another; and inserting text in the background allows spanning the image. Can't crop efficiently; can't deselect tools once selected; can't print portrait or landscape on 8.5 x 11" paper; no spray tool; can't trim unused background.
