"Just plain works." Does what it says it does. It takes over all downloading, using the same default location each time, requiring one to browse for a desired location for each download. (The built-in downloader defaults to the last location saved which is convenient at least part of the time.) If you want to download flash videos, get it.

"Very Good Program" Downloads as downloads as you want. Seems to lag a little when loading. Downloads could be faster. It's a pretty good program, works easily, not very complicated, and especially since it's free. Updated on Oct 21, 2009

Can filter out files you don't want to download (uncheck the box(es) on a site. Never had a problem using Orbit with the next to last version of Firefox, but then again I always launched it separately from quick launch. It isn't point-and-shoot easy; you actually might have to read an instruction or two. But it isn't complicated. I have a computer from the turn of the decade, and the motherboard can't handle more memory. So (despite DSL), watching almost anything is: view a couple seconds...buffer...view a couple seconds more...buffer, etc. Orbit downloads quickly, I convert the .flv (flash) files to one which will play on my ipod, and watch at the gym.

"Best free downloader. Using it from months." Downloads from any site which supports downloaders. Resumable downloads can be resumed. Not well integrated into chrome.

"Apparently not compatible with Windows 7 Professional" Unknown. Did not work. Unknown. Did not work. Once installed IE8 ceased to function. Upon clicking to open the browser it will come up to a blank screen then "stop responding". This affected both the 32 and 64 bit versions of IE8. After uninstalling, everything was back to normal.

"Works really well, most of the time.." Easy to use and configure Doesn't work with Google Chrome, can be a bit "iffy" with Firefox.. ie you load it as normal and sometimes it does'nt recognize anything being on download list.. then after reloading browser instead of refreshing it magically starts working again.. Well worth trying, when it works properly it's magic!

"Awesome program!" Mousing over an embedded video will provide a pop-up that not only lets you download the vid but also change its name and directory to save it to.Its highly customizable and can be minimized to the system tray. None, this is an awesome program Once installed mousing over an embedded video will provide a pop-up that not only lets you download the vid but also change its name and directory to save it to. Its the best free download manager ever!

well, it kinds of does everything you wants it to do.....speeds up download, pausing resuming. download videos from youtube which u cant pause by the way dont works so well on slower internet connections....it will often break your download and you will have to download again and it still wont work....(3kb/s) apart from that when the download reaches 99.9% it takes too long to reach 100%. but now i have 1mbps connection and its working like a charm so its pretty usless therefore cuz on this much internet i've never felt like pausing a download or anything when all the latest browsers like chrome and firefox support resume feature the reason i still have it cuz i sometimes need to download videos from youtube.

... then there should be nothing but pros... as some users claim ....and no cons at all -which other users claim not to be so. The botttom line for me is: some people obviously have encountered serious problems, which I do not wish to run into. After reading 42 reviews to date (10 Nov, 03:46 GMT+1) I?m pretty confused about wether or not I should give this a try. Orbit Downloader 2.8.17 release date is October 14, 2009. Some three weeks have passed and few or no clear cut answers have been given to the issues raised here. Referring to http://download.cnet.com/Orbit-Downloader/3000-2071_4-10600926.html?tag=mncol (publisher?s description) and to http://download.cnet.com/windows/orbitdownloader/3260-20_4-6288207.html?tag=mncol (software publisher profile) doesn?t give any solace either. I haven?t counted the pro?s and con?s nor have I checked te individual stars ratings against the reviews contents (sometimes they are really contradictory, which is even more confusing). It seems quite clear however that there are two diametrically opposed groups: those who are fervent supporters of this new version and those who are equally fervent opposants. It would be nice if both parties be clear about their system configuration when reporting problems, proposing fixes or praising software into heaven (os version, browser, firewalls,?) But? ?What's new in this version: ?Version 2.8.17 adds 'OneClick YouTube Downloader' add-on on Firefox, improves The process of ?'GetIt' button, and fixes some bugs may cause IE crash when operating Grabpro?, may give us an idea (even though it doesn?t tell us much, or does it?) The add-on and presumed fixes seem to be the culprit. Users of previous versions seem unanimously positive about those ?oldies?. Some even suggest reverting to those after deinstalling this new one (having experienced serious problems with it). In the abscence of more detailed, non-contradictory, technical information I think I?m NOT GOING TO TRY THIS NEW VERSION because I

"slowed internet to snail crawl" easy to use couldn't get even 1 file to download because connection was disrupted so much. once i removed program internet ran at full speed again. not worth the delays and hassle

to be able to locate back the downloaded file fast, with simple mouse click and which most children also find it easy to use,it really caters to most web browsing user. majority wins not sure for how long this software is free for use . i like this product and find it to be very useful especially among students and the cost conscious consumer and home user . not sure whether during files downloading the computer is being slow down or not , but i think it must be our wifi speed which is not constant and stable at certain times.

"Fairly decent" Takes care of the crashing problem with IE8. Small in size too. Can't continue some downloads after restart. Manages to keep a stable download pace, reacts fast to commands, and increases speed a little. Overall, Orbit is a fairly decent download manager.

Fairly easy to use This doesn't convert to mp4. It's quite convenient, but often downloads what you've previously perused regardless of whether you wish to download it. This happens even after refreshing the YouTube video page, as suggested. And then the video must be renamed from a generic flv to what it actually calls itself (which is OK-not too inconvenient); and after that it needs to be copied to the player you use regardless of the fact that the download file is actually the one used by that player.

"It has a great flaw" steady downloading if orbit crashes somehow for pc power failure or any other reasons all the download progress losts and it starts download from the begining...but it never happens in dap....thats why there is no alternative for dap. need to improve

"Helps with Downloads, but tends to get in the way..." Is very helpful in resuming downloads when Internet connection is less than specatacular. For this it works well. Pops up a window for all downloads, if you press "cancel" will let your system handle it. Has an annoying "GetIt" button that pops up every time you work with flash, even if you are trying to play a game on the computer. There seems to be no way to disable this button. I finally uninstalled the program... The "GetIt" button was just too annoying. If the program had had I way to disable this button, I would have kept using it.
