definitely the best download manager!!! there is just one thing to make it perfect (at least for me) - it's the integration with portable Firefox but I think it the question of time (maybe next release)

The best! Way better than FDM. I use FF portable exclusively, with Orbit every day. Orbit is portable if you simply copy the folder. Copy ff portable & orbit folder to flash, uninstall orbit, put orbit in root of ff folder. Run ff, open flashgot options, point it to orbit. Done

i have downloaded and tested the same link with the same condition with orbit and IDM and found: IDM is faster with better integration on browsers! just 3 starts are enough.

still no move up/down buttons on toolbar... so "only" **** for now ;-)

Data layout is still very poor, hard to tell anything useful about your download other than the amount completed and current speed. And recently the Grab++ has gotten buggy, it won't sniff anything unless I start it before I start my browser. Both very annoying issues, but good aside from that. If VisualWget gets a sniffer, I may stop using this all together.

Works for me thought the GUI is rather ugly but even the grab++ finds things from a webpage if I reload the page after grab++ has been started.

Overall, my favorite downloader but many little annoying bugs are long ignored by the developer. For example, you cannot specify a UNC path to save a file, despite being able to browse to it. You can use a mapped drive, and you can move the file to a UNC path from within Orbit after downloading, but the stupid Add dialog just won't accept a UNC path. Reported and confirmed multiple times in the forums but never fixed, just one of many UI limitations like the missing up/down toolbar buttons which wouldn't be so bad if you could use the up/down options on the right-click context menu when selecting multiple files. Alas, those options are only available when 1 file is selected. Supports grouping download history by category but forget about specifying the category when you add the download (the ideal time); you have to wait until the download finishes (which might be hours or days later; after all, that's why you're using a download manager to begin with) so I hope you remembered to enter a comment to remind yourself what category "setup.exe" belongs in! Of course, you'd override a filename like setup.exe, right? Better do it before you add it to the queue because you can't change it while queued (even if paused); again, gotta wait until after download. Orbit supports a pipe-delimited text file import format which optionally allows specifying the http referer, cookies, and comment. Unfortunately, the corresponding export only gives you the URL.

For a freeware product this is great. I used GetRight for many many years due to not finding another program that I liked. I stumbled across Orbit and it's wonderful. Of course it has its issues here and there but that doesn't detract from how great it is.

I love this software.Very nice downloader.

This may not be the fastest download manager, but it is my favorite. I've used lots of them, but this one seems to work exactly the way I would want my manager to work on the pickiest detail.

After trying out quite a few other downloaders, I've finally settled with orbit. It's the best I've come across till now. I'm just looking forward to the developers making few minor modifications to the software like putting a multiple selection option in the Grab++ window just like the one you have in the "Choose the URL you want to download" window. I'm talking about the "switch choosing state" check box u see when u r importing a list of download. I can't help wishing this software had a webcrawler also. Please look into that also. All the best!!

are you sure you don't have automatic update on ?

Rated 10/50 by at Apr 3, 2008

this is advertised as adware and spyware-free but calls home at every startup: oblogin.rep.orbitdownloader.com (64.71.134.242) Privacy concerns http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orbit_downloader this behaviour didn't change since several versions and likely won't change in the future. and this has nothing to do with automatic update. unusable crap - low rating!

@cartmanxxl: There is a simple way to integrate Orbit with Portable Firefox. See: http://portableapps.com/node/13122

There is a simple way to integrate Orbit with Portable Firefox. yeah it's called flashgot options Currently I am using MiniDM.exe (IE7Pro2.3) with ff portable 3 RC.... Orbit had a bad habit of simply faltering on too many downs. I use it only for the grab++ (unless there is an improvement here) we'll see. Good for a minute then back to the same ol s*** of faltering. At least grab+ works
