OpenOffice.org is the open source project through which Sun Microsystems is releasing the technology for the popular StarOffice productivity suite. It is an international office suite that will run on all major platforms and provide access to all functionality and data through open-component based APIs and an XML-based file format. It establishes the necessary facilities to make this open source technology available to the developer community.

most of the functions are the same as other packages, easy touse The registration fails. I now have two accounts with them and still can't access their site properly.Drawing functions are not fully operative, adding text to boxes etc lacks functionality. Not sure why Sun can't have a simple registration procedureNot sure why the help menu doesn't explain how to do things, only lists functionality, which is intuitively obvious anyway.

Per # 2. Preforms better than Office. So far nothing! Well thought out by developers with an eye to getting the job done! As I am retired, I utilize Open Office mainly for correspondance.

Easy to use and seems to be compatible with everything. Program has more options than I will ever use. Save your money for a new computer and download this program.

It is a well developed , easy to use suite of apps that replaces the standard paid versions of microsoft office suites. It is totally integrated into my system somehow too. It is ubiquitous and complete. a problem with it made taking it out and reinstall a project. I was expecting something less complex than the microsoft model but it seems to be very similar in complexity. Might not be a con really but surprise to me. I have owned the microsoft office suits and professional versions for 8yrs or so but put this on a new build and use it the same way without any issues at all . only standard issues nothing to keep me from using it or recommending it

It could change Microsoft wordFull utilityFreebie In its words it cannot detect a fragment between a sentence compare to MS This is good for writer's who are good in correcting there own mistake like grammar and spelling because it cannot detect a frag sentence. As for students and some people who are having a trouble in there grammar this program is not for you until they updated.

The emails I get from work have been frustrating until now because so many people use so many different software programs. Not anymore with Open Office. No more reminders to save files in.rtf extensions, you can even save in PDF format! None that I know of! Well, I had to get used to some different features, but that's hardly a hardship! Look no further for software programming! You won't be disappointed...

1. Free 2. Has 99% of the features from MS office 3. Has a sort of predictive text feature which works very nicely 1. From what I have found it doesn't have "publisher" 2. doesn't keep all formating of documents - especally tables in writer that have come from work All-in-all a great piece of software spare a few niggles and would recommend it to anyone.

Free, open source. Compatible with MSO. Interface looks outdated, kinda slow, cant save as .docx etc. With some improvement, this program will be a must have.

It is easy to use, and free. I don't use it for any elaborate work, so I have no complaints.

Its almost like Microsoft Office and can open and save as a Microsoft Office file. If you don't need something fancy like Microsoft Office this software is for you. Had for sometime now and no problems. No problems with it. Great software and very useful, the great thing is it can open and save as a Microsoft Office file. Its great for personal use.

OpenOffice does everything that MS Office does, and it does it for free. If you're frustrated with the ribbon design of Office 2007 you should consider giving this a try as well, since OpenOffice is more similar in format to Office 2003. When you save files in OpenOffice as .doc or rich text files, the formatting can shift in unexpected ways. Workarounds then become necessary. Bottom line, this is a must-have application if you write a lot of documents. And it's free!
