OpenOffice.org is the open source project through which Sun Microsystems is releasing the technology for the popular StarOffice productivity suite. It is an international office suite that will run on all major platforms and provide access to all functionality and data through open-component based APIs and an XML-based file format. It establishes the necessary facilities to make this open source technology available to the developer community.

Was able to convert my MS Works document to send to someone who only has OpenOffice. Only opens Word, Works or Power Point docs.Doesn't open MS Publisher and some of my projects work best in Publisher.Other programs haven't been able to open documents created in OpenOffice. Very limited uses.My MS Office Word program converts other versions of Word for me so only use it to send documents to one person who only uses OpenOffice. The document I produced in it for them had to be redone in MS Works to forward to someone else.

FREE! All in one office suite. Conversion to Office is not as seamless as the developers make it seem. Great to use as a free stand alone office suite. I highly recommend the product for someone who does not want to spend hundreds of dollars for a office suite to use for household projects. The conversion from this software to Office is not so seamless. You have to have the Microsoft software installed on you computer to convert from some Open Office file types to Office file types. Saving is not a one click action either. There are weird file types that you can save to that I had never heard of before. And the programs can interfere if you use both Open Office and Office on a regular basis. Try it and you will see. I recommend you use either this product or Office, not both.

1. Free, Free, Free.2. No worries about license expiry or limitations on use. 1. Startup speed is nowhere near ms office 2010.2. Urgent need for UI upgrade, my frnds complain that i am using software which is decades behind office 2010. Of all the open source softwares, open office is the most important, as it is needed by anyone who has a comp. It has huge potential for growth, and its still lagging behind office in innovation, Still it is unarguably the most needed Open source product out there.

Most of my TT system ffonts were unregistered in Vista after installing. Made the alignment of the text appear differently in Microsoft Word, and OpenOffice. Had to re-register fonts in the fonts folder.

simple, easy to use, works well as good as Microsoft, also, its free related products are interfering with downloads. I don't need 2 hours to download this. Just let me get on with my work and stop selling

It's easy. It has all of the features 99.9% people need. Reads and writes files from Microsoft and Corel Doesn't include the vast library of templates or clipart that Microsoft includes Office is the best all around package available. And it's completely free. It works flawlessly. It has a great recovery feature if you accidently unplug your computer for some reason (which i have done recently).

In general its very easy to use, I use the calc and writer a lot which are perfect for my needs. Can be a bit tricky when you get to the in depth technical bits, with me being a novice I found the Help menu difficult to understand.

Full load of features.Intuitive interface.Ability to use wide variety of file types. Slow to load. No option to just load one module from desktop.Less than helpful Help menu.Drawing program would be better if more like similar software. I am still in the early trial period, but so far love the word-processor, but less fond of drawing program. Have had little chance to test rest of it.

It has all the things you need for office use at no cost. It's compatible with Microsoft Office. I haven't found anything to complain about so far. It's good for what you want to use it for.

It substitutes for Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and will save to PDF. This FREE group of programs also comes with some really neat features that Microsoft forgot (or didn't) add to their software. There is a small learning curve. Things are different to the Microsoft group of programs, but not so different that a little trial and error won't fix - or you could look at the 'help' section. Open Office is FREE. There are a large group of REAL people who will help you with whatever problem you might encounter. Also, if you contact the developers they will help you to change the actual program (or any part of it) to suit your specific (or special) needs. Plus, there are many different extensions you can download and add. The learning curve is minimal. All you need to do is learn a different lingo and different names for the programs. The "draw" program is a vector-based program, similar to "Illustrator" or "Linkscape". It is NOT included with Microsoft Office, so it could be considered a bonus. "Illustrator" is a wonderful program but costs a lot of money. "Math" allows you to write very complicated math symbols. I do not know of another program that does this - and for FREE. "Base" is a database, similar to "Access" or maybe "DBase". "Impress" is the "PowerPoint" program, while "Writer" is the "Word" program and "Spreadsheet" is the "Excel" or "Lotus123" program. This is a wonderful complete set of programs for almost any need.

New graphics;all the original functionality. I still can't get it to let me print text in color; maybe because of printer software... I like it better than the original version I bought from sun.com; it looks better & still gets the job done... Updated on Jul 25, 2010
