OpenOffice.org is the open source project through which Sun Microsystems is releasing the technology for the popular StarOffice productivity suite. It is an international office suite that will run on all major platforms and provide access to all functionality and data through open-component based APIs and an XML-based file format. It establishes the necessary facilities to make this open source technology available to the developer community.

It bears the OpenOffice name, Trust me, that is it!If OpenOffice cannot resolve these issues soon, even that will be a Con. Crash Crash and Crash again. Then, seemingly to grind your teeth to stumps in the ensuing madness that follows, it recovers over and over again, when I say recover, that is not what it actually does, It recovers to 'read-only' only! One of the most infuriating programs derived from one of the greatest programs ever!PLEASE OpenOffice, get rid, bring out a new version that was like your old one, that doesn't crash ALL THE TIME!

It's Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and much more for free! I find it easy to use and it has (in my opinion) more features than Microsoft Office. It can be slow to respond sometimes. Like when you press a button, it will take a second to process that you pressed that button. Other than that, I have had no problems with it! OpenOffice.org is efficient, simple, and easy to understand. I use it every time I do school projects that require whatever to be typed! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who can't afford Microsoft Office or wants a free program that like Microsoft Office.

Loads of features and easy to use. Still missing some applications that other software has. A brilliant piece of software that does exactly what is says on the tin.

It will do just about anything a person wants to do with a office program. Takes longer to load than I would like, but nothing I can't live with. This is a great program. I use it on all of my computers both at home and work.It takes a little getting used to if you are familiar with MS Office. There are someapplications that are different. But overall it is a great alternative.

The fact that is is Free? Slow, Slow, Slow (and yes, new computer with otherwise blazing speeds wtih all other softward) Stick with Microsoft Office - not worth the hassle.

Ease of use, the wide range of programs and the structure of the programs. The software is very well thought out and compact. None so far, I haven't had time to use every segment of the software but what I have used has been very efficient and user friendly. Much better thought out than many other office software applications and the fact that they leave it up to the individual to determine what it is worth is a very big plus. A user can contribute according to how much one uses the program unlike Microsoft and others who are overpriced for the occasional user.

I like the fact that it is free. I don't kow what my cons would be at this time. I haven't used Open Office long enought to determine them. I am going to have to work with Open Office for awhile to learn how to totally appreciate all of the features. So far it seems to be easy enough to use.

So far have only used the "word processor" app. but it has a few flaws. You can't complain about the price! The buttons stick and don't work as easily as they should. I can't get it to work at all on some of the buttons. Full of problems to be solved this is a work in progress.

An objective evaluation will show you that this suite will handle about 98% of all your office needs. Check it out for yourself. We saved thousands of dollars. We cannot find a single problem. One of the best products in the world. Excellent alternative to the M$ monopoly.

What can I say? It's compatible with virtually every office suite made. Can't say that for MS. MS isn't even compatible with MS. Try sending a resume through a site like Career Builder with MS. Horrible!! Open Office? First time every time. None. Very user friendly. Unlike MS Office. I think a lot of these negative reviews have more to do with people that can't maintain their PC's than the Office Suite itself. Or maybe people that are MS resellers. I notice most of the bad reviews are first. Bottom line...the overall numbers don't lie.

easier to access all applications from one screen. The recent docs is also a bonus as it shows all types at one time Doesn't have much clip-art I like the fact that I only need one screen to open all types of document instead of having to hunt around for the right program. The password is also a bonus, great for keeping business docs away from children who have a habit of hitting delete.I would have liked clipart, it's most likely out there somewhere I just haven't found it yet.

More intuitive interface than MS Office. Export to PDF. Supports MS format types like .DOC. Great free plugins and addons. None. There used to be problem with .otf font types in PDF export but that was fixed in version 1.3. I own MS Office but am uninstalling it on my second machine. Open Office rules!
