OpenOffice.org is the open source project through which Sun Microsystems is releasing the technology for the popular StarOffice productivity suite. It is an international office suite that will run on all major platforms and provide access to all functionality and data through open-component based APIs and an XML-based file format. It establishes the necessary facilities to make this open source technology available to the developer community.

"Does everything Microsoft Office does and more." It's easy to use, you can save in Microsoft formats if you want, plus others. And, it's free and constantly evolving. The lack of a program similar to outlook. However, that is available through another company. With the open code, people are writing new features as the product evolves. If you like MS Office, then you will have no trouble using this product.

What I like about this product? Everything. From secretarial experience (many years) this suite is refreshing. I used OO first, off and on a couple of years, then switched to Oxygen O Prof and have been waiting for the new 3.2 There is nothing that I can state. With everything there is a learning curve. Makes it interesting. Please give this suite a try. This is a fantastic piece of software and gives MS Office Suite a run for its money. Not many people can afford the prices MS charges. Not that their software is bad, its just this suite can give them a run for the money. No longer in the administrative field, I still need word processing, spreadsheets, DBs, presentation etc. and this answers the need. I love trying all different kinds of software, so when OO came out, I jumped on it. The real challenge came with Oxygen O (more goodies/prof items) and liking challenge, I jumped on that one. I doubt that I will be going back to MS Office. Great job and I Iike the interactions of the OO/OOo community.

Works seamlessly with my old MS files. Actually works better with my pictures and clip art than some of the MS standard programs. The programs are not as cumbersome and slow as MS programs can be. Great add-ons as well. A little awkward at first if your used to MS Word and Excel but after about thirty minutes you get the hang of the new tool bars. It just a minor learning curve but you can quickly adapt. Other than being a little bit of the unknown as for as manipulating the programs functions when you first start using it, there is absolutely nothing in this suite of programs you can't master with a little time. Very easy to migrate into and be comfortable with. All in all it is a great program, so much so that I have turned quit a few of my friends on to it.

"One of the best free office suites of all time!" OpenOffice.org offers everything you need to make professional presentations, essays, calculations, and PDFs. Plus, it is almost fully cross-compatible with Microsoft Office. OO.org does not offer a program for making brochures and other public advertisements like Microsoft Office does. On the other hand, it is really not necessary if you don't use it regularly. If you need a good office suite and Microsoft Office is too expensive for your budget (believe me, it's expensive), then this is just for you. It is definitely worth a try.

"works for me" relatively easy to use. need to use the help more often then I would like. Doesn't interface easily with office. some people that I send things to use office and cannot open the docs in office evn tho I saved them as office docs. For home use it cannot be beat. I have used this package for over ten years. Price is right.

"It Does What I need in Windows and Linux - FREE!" Gives me the equivalent, for my uses of Office Pro from M/S for $0 License Fee. The fact that many of my outside contractor Professionals do Not Know About it. I have a rule - No OO - as it is a Free Download - No Contract. So far, all have either downloaded OO themselves or have gone to their "Offices" & downloaded it for them. If OO was priced the same as M/S Office - I would choose M/S Office. At a savings of about $250 per license - for the version I would need from M/S - over +/- 10 Computers,Open Office 3 (any version) is a WINNAH! -S-

"Couldn't open up some of my E-mail without this." Automatically opens documents in Word format (I think that's what it is, anyway) Everytime I upgrade it it doesn't realize I already have the older version on my computer.

"I love Open Office. Stands with MS Office." I like this program very much. It is very easy to use and it has all of the features and functionality of MicroSoft Office Trying to use the math program is something to be desired. Anything you need to do with MicroSoft Office can be done using OpenOffice. You can import/export and document or file. The file/document conversion is dead on.

"One of the best free office suites available." You can save your files in different formats. I'm not sure what the cons are.

Great alternative to MS software. And its free. There should be no one complaining about this for that reason alone.

Free spreadsheet better than Works. Not really pretty, but I have not looked for settings yet. Free Spreadsheet which I desparately needed.

Word completion feature is great. UI layout is logical and very easy to use. Everything is where you are expecting it to be. Working is a breeze... Slow first start when you click on the document for the first time (not sure is this a Java - related). This is noticeable on my old laptop, but not a problem on a new one. All my family like OpenOffice: we are using it on MAC, Windows and Linux. Works great! This is much better quality program compare to M$ Word - a clear winner!

Its an excellent FREE product, it does everything MS Office is doing. I like it and it works on both my XP & Win7. Give Microsoft a flick as its trying to monopolize the market with control It takes longer than desire to load up the program. There are not much that I found and dislike the program. It comprises all the common tasks that a home office would need and they all work fine. Even though the interface are not set up as conveniently as MSOffice (may be I have been using MSOffice for too long) one still can find what he's looking for. There is one thing that I am not happy about is the loading time took to start up the program. On my XP system (P4 duo core, 3.0 gHz, 2 GB Ram) it tooks 25 seconds to the program list page. It's not unbearable, but I reckon the developer could improve on it.

It had most if not all of the features you need in a good office product. Updates included, and it's free. Can't think of any. This is a very good product and it is well wrth ythe download. You won't be sorry here.
