This is the best high-end irc client because the user has full control over operations via a console. It also has excellent custom script support. It's not really for the average user, more for computer hobbyists and pro's.

if you know you way around a chat then it works fine the user interface leaves a lot to be desired for the entry level user

Clean program, functional, has up-to-date list of networks & channels preloaded. Lack of common features that are available through many different script addons... it would be nice to incorporate much of that into the base program so there would be no need for scripts (which often have back doors & viruses). Solid program for basic chatting. If you want to really get into chatting, you will want to add various script programs to mIRC. Be careful though as these scripts often carry with them a variety of bad things that you aren't going to want on your system. Check out the reputation/history of any script and the author before you install the script. Remember, the main thing is to have fun with it... so have fun :)

Very open abilities of what you can do. Rather quick and simple to chat up with a friend or group. Setting it up takes time and can become very tricky to use with the commands and connection/channels. It also lacks the modern chat abilities such as emotions, text editing etc. Recommend for chatting with big groups. If your chatting for a few friends so, this is not needed.

It offers an easier way to communciate with others all over the world. not very famous, but not its fault Sme considerate settings are very nice!

mIRC is the best IRC client out there. It was even good enough for me to pay for! mIRC enhances your IRC life with awesome themes, blazing speeds, and even a Script Editor! If you like chatting on IRC, then this is what you are looking for!

I have had the paid version for many years. When I tried to install this version, something odd happened. All of my prior settings were gone when the program started up, so I had to do a system restore back to the prior version (7.14) to get it to work. I was quite surprised as I have updated many time previously. This version didn't work for me. I may try it again when I make sure I have a system back up ready in case.
