Pretty good. Its a lot more stable than flash. Less prone to attacks. HTML5 is quickly replacing flash, so i guess Microsoft wants to take its place. It has good multi platform support for macs and Linux. Im using the new dev preview, which is faster than this 1. I wish they update this soon. Overall good. I laugh it these ppl saying flash is ok. They have obviously never used flash on macs and linux. Being a windows user, those probs dont affect me but still, flash is getting worse. Silverlight has lots of potential. This vershion kinda sucks, but the beta siverlight 4 is really good.

After deving with it for a bit now, this is heads over flash. Some quality abilities and features, great video being just one of them.

Dear Silverlight, please die! I hate this stupid framework. It's a resource hog/monster. It is NOT cross platform. Because the API's and other stuff it uses are heavily patent-encumber t. Also it's MS product, with all the typical stuff: slow+bloated+lock-in-to-other MS-products. Everybody, if you feel frustrated blog about Silverlights deficiencies. It deserves it. Because it's everybody's business. (MS slogan)

Broke my NetFlix instant viewing (DRM error) uninstalled and installed Silverlight 3 to get my NetFlix working again.

Microsoft Silverlight is a web application framework that provides functionalities similar to those in Adobe Flash integrating multimedia, graphics, animations and interactivity into a single runtime environment. It is necessary to watch some videos. I have no cons about Silverlight.

The link provided at this time is that of Microsoft Silverlight version 4.0.50401 and not 4.0.50524 as mentioned.

none, none, and absolutely none, unless you like your privacy invaded. reports to microsoft NO MATTER WHAT no matter what you do within windows to NOT have reports and data sent to microsoft, this little program will not install unless you agree to have it send info about your windows and computer (and whatever other data they take without your knowledge). i guess you're not allowed to watch certain flash videos (IE: olympics and netflix) without big brother watching you. in my eyes this is illegal and is a form of spyware/malware.

Like AlphaBetaGamma said, this link still downloads the old version, so someone's screwed up somewhere. Clicking on the link to the Silverlight page, then the download link, gets the stated version.

This is still the 4.0.50524 version.

Silverlight is alright but not the greatest as it is a Windows only, i would rather have something in a better language like Java or something else that is cross platform.

Required for Netflix. Not especially configurable. Performs fairly well even on netbooks.

I only use it for web radio but if you disable it along with the wmp plugin, IE9 actually starts like a normal browser instead of like a gaming software. This wasn't working in anything but IE before this latest update.

@soldier1st: not entirely true ... http://msdn.microsoft.co.../bb404700(v=VS.95).aspx "It is a cross-browser, cross-platform technology. It runs in all popular Web browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari, Google Chrome, and on Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS X." For the Linux crowd there is (with limitations in regard to protection): http://www.mono-project.com/Moonlight As to it being good or bad. My opinion is it gets the job done. I would rather see more standards based approaches when and where possible using technologies like these only when appropriate but I felt the need to provide accurate info.

It's a great plug. Developers can quickly and easily code very complex Silverlight apps and I see more coming out in the future. Installation can be a pain. I dislike version 3.xxx because is completely outdated and any newer "2010" apps will make you install silverlight 4.xxx anyway. This particular software entry should be removed from the index.

Nice home page. Never seem to see it in action. Silverlight seems to just be installed and updated. It comes across as being some kind of flash player that will make my graphics and games or videos just out of this world. I understand it's for developers but what is it being used for if I don't develope or designe stuff? Is it out of my league? Why is it recommended so highly for everyone?
