Microsoft Silverlight (formerly WPF/E) is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of media experiences and rich interactive applications (RIAs) for the Web. It is intended for developers and designers interested in learning more about how to build experiences with Microsoft Silverlight.

I liked the last version; seems to still run well and maybe slightly loads faster than the last. That's all I've noticed so far. Great though, in the least.

"smooth media plug-in" We have Windows XP computers. We use Silverlight for only one application, but it works fine for that. No problems.

It entered the market, looked like it had some hope, but has been a pretty big dud since. Now we have to support it for legacy reasons in perpetuity. I'm sick of non-open standards in plug-in formats from MS and Adobe. Help us Obi One, you're our only hope!

Way more capable than flash i think. But totally missed the boat. Shame really.

I extracted silverlight.exe and saw silverlight.7z. Wow microsoft is using open source 7zip format.

yeah silverlight.msp is compressed from 14.9 MB to 4.52 MB. Way to piggyback on open source Microsoft. You're getting it now.

May be good for complex code, but does Not seem to help with the simple stuff. Checked Silverlight home page - View/TextSize (largest -> smallest) doesn't affect display. Part of page text sized to screensize, graphic sized to opening window ( doesn't resize). If the people promoting Silverlight can't do a 'correct' page, ... I opted for a three, they can't figure it out, but some of it may be useful.

Silverlight 3 supports H.264 and AAC. MS was part of H.264 standardization, btw. Silverlight is fine, I guess, it's natural for MS to half-ass it this far. They are losing badly and watch for them to give up on it quite soon, like Windows Mobile.

I installed, the uninstalled Silverlight. It's an Adobe Flash wanna be. It doesn't support H.264 vid codec, browser only and development must take place on MS Windows. Mac users might have a problem with that.

Silverlight is a top notch RIA platform. For your dancing monkeys stick with Flash. Otherwise move aside...

Much better than flash for video. Also, can self check for updates.

"Seems to be working fine, with no problems so far." It?s free, well built & takes only a small amount of memory. Reasonably fast download time and is fewer than 5 MB. None that I can see as of now. I would recommend this to a PC user, plain and simple.

"Netflix will not run" Microsoft has sent me several "fixes" to try to get it to work for Netflix. After uninstalling and reinstalling silverlight several times and using a Microsoft cleanup tool, the bottom line is that Netflix still won't work and keeps asking me to install silverlight. An earlier version of silverlight did work for Netflix with no problems. What did they do when they made it "better"?

None...... Is this program a joke from Bill Gates? The spiel from Microsoft sounded interesting so I downloaded Silverlight and installed it. From there on, nothing, nada, zilch. It did not install a Desktop icon, it did not install a Start Menu entry, it did not install a toolbar on my IE8 or on my Desktop toolbar. It didn't show up in Add Or Delete Programs at all. Finally I dragged an .exe icon from Program Files onto my desktop and clicked...you guessed it...nada, zilch, nothing. So I dragged a Configure file (.exe) onto my desktop and it led me to a window (FINALLY) where I could do nothing but zoom to a Silverlight webpage, where, as near as I could tell, I could learn, be tutored, download bunches of crap, become a famous artist and save the world...everything but HAVE A DESKTOP ICON TO LAUNCH THIS SENSELESS PROGRAM. It gets better: it didn't come with an uninstaller, so I spent quite some time deleting and editing my registry. To me, IMHO, this is a TWOMT. (Total Waste Of My Time). (...did I just invent a new texting/posting abbreviation? TWOMT?)

"Works Alright" Easy to install. SilverLight is free. No problem(s) and no error(s). No cons with Silverlight. If you want to see some videos, you have to install SilverLight. Only to open with the video via right click menu, there are no desktop shortcut or via Start, Programs.

none at all. i do not like it. why... why do we need to use silverlight? annoying... and it slooooooows down my system. NEEDED to dl it to watch videos of the olympics. just an annoyance. actually made me put off watching any videos for the first week of the olympics. basically just another useless piece of microsoft software they try to jam down your throat. if you want to watch any videos for the olympics... you need to download this software. whats wrong with the normal video players that 99% of the rest of the world already uses. just a total waste. slows down my computer whenever i try to watch a video with it. I am using a basically brand new HP dv6 laptop with windows 7.

"Silverlight is a joke......." There are no pros whatsoever to this produce - I would give it zero stars if I could. It doesn't work - period. I installed it, but it still asks me to install it to watch any olympic videos. What a joke!! Why doesn't Microsoft quit trying to muscle into every, single aspect of the web experience?? Flash works just fine - I have no problems with it at all. Silverlight sucks.
