Memtest86 3.5

Memtest86 by Memtest86 Screenshot Memtest86 Screenshot

Memtest86 is thorough, stand alone memory test for x86 architecture computers. BIOS based memory tests are a quick, cursory check and often miss many of the failures that are detected by Memtest86.

"Memtest 86 does a good job" Works exactly as advertised. Nothing

"Very nice memory test" Running on Dell Inspiron 530, E2160. Put in Corsair 4gb 2x2gb. added a usb floppy drive, created a 3.5 diskette. restarted the machine and it booted the floppy and started the test. Went thru many passes in 18 hours I let it run. Switched to expanded test during the run. Program ran without any problems. none

As others have already said, memtes86 is one of the best known and longest running memory testers out there. Excellent program that is HIGHLY recommended by anyone who has the faintest idea what they're talking about.

Works great, though I prefer Memtest86+ as it seems to be updated more often.

I've pretty much abandoned this for use of memtest86+, but never hurts to have both. memetest86+ is updated more frequently, and obviously copied now by memtest.

"Did not work on XP Pro (to install onto diskette)" None - did not even work. The directions were not correct (and only mention Linux OS) and referenced files that were not included. I have no idea how this passed the editors at cnet.

"Get the latest release, just go to memtest.org" Works EVERYTIME on any system I've used in 10 years. You must be smarter then the box in front of you.Of course you can't burn a ISO on a Cd if the system you are burning on, HAS BAD MEMORY. You must burn the disc on another 'clean' system. Always check the memtest.org site for the latest release so that your 'new' motherboard chipset is properly supported.

"Good program" Started and ran real well after getting the program on the floppy. A more obvious how-to section would help.

"Great tool" Works as advertised. Catches errors that some other tools miss. Runs great as a boot CD. It does not take a rocket scientist to convert this download to a boot CD. Use something like CDBurnerXP to write the included .bin file to a bootable CD. None that I can see.. Great tool. No credible technician would want to leave home without it.

"Works as advertised" Seems to reliably detect even tricky-to-detect RAM problems that might be causing random computer flakiness. Must be run from a CD or floppy. Not sure how to avoid this, though, since the OS can't be loaded before doing a complete RAM test. Possible to run it from a USB key maybe? It works.

easy to use, automatic There are no cons for me. This was perfect for what I needed. I had an issue and this detected the faulty stick, it was easy to use and it found the faulty stick in multiple cases. Issue resolved.
