MBAM is shaping up nicely. The quick and full scans are very fast. It does NOT cause any system damage (as claimed by a couple of reviewers) and can be uninstalled cleanly. MBAM can actually remove any malware it finds. It is being developed by reputable people in the anti-malware community. MBAM will replace Ad-Aware on my machine.

I'm not impressed by this program. And is it me or does anyone else notice something suspicious with the positive reviews below ?

Rated 10/50 by hurzx at Jan 7, 2008

@kbsoftware It's not you...¨Positive reviews are from the developpers. Once, just after I posted a negative review, a very positive one appeared. In that post there was a link; I clicked on it and I immediately got a virus which was detected and stopped by Antivir. Strange no ?

I have Beta Tested MBAM for the get go. Apart from a minor problem with the Update feature early on (resolved very quickly)I have found MBAM an excellent addition to my Malware arsenal. Extremely easy to use GUI a fast and efficient Malware Program. Thanks to Malwarebytes for the use of this highly effective Malware Program.

Works fine. However, because it has no real-time scanning, there is no compelling reason to choose it over Spybot or Spyware Terminator. I do like the light, simple GUI and the updates that installs quickly and cleanly.

I'm an independent consultant who has been beta testing this product for several months now, on Vista Business and XP Professional (both of which are "production" machines, I might add). Aside from some minor glitches which were so insignificant that I can't even remember what they were, this little jewel runs like a striped-ass ape. I went to the trouble of joining this forum just so I could put my 2 cents worth in, with no axe to grind whatsoever, because some Bozo out there who obviously DOES have an axe to grind tried to falsely denigrate this great little program. It works like a charm, in my estimation...

I get really fed up with some of the negative responses, not only about this program but others listed on this website. If a program deserves a negative review I would do it in a minute. However, I have downloaded the last few releases of Malwarebites and used them. There is absolutely no justification for others to state that it is spyware or any other type of "negative ware". My installation and use has not brought about viruses or spyware appearing because of it. As for the program itself, it runs quickly, even on the deep check and if there is anything found, it notifies you of this. Readers may not believe this review or may even be sceptical of its source but my best advice would be to download it, install it and try it for yourself. Ignore the negative reviews and make up your own mind.

Have tested MBAM since it began, no issues running on either Vista or XP. Am impressed by speed of both scan and update. I run antivir (the paid for model)and I clicked on the link and guess what?NOTHING!

When I beta-test a scanner, I ask myself the following questions: 1) Does it come from a respected source? 2) Does it have a good user-to-user support forum? 3) Is the author personally involved in trouble-shooting on this forum? 4) Is the GUI intuitive/user-friendly? 5) Is it easy to install/uninstall? 6) Do all my other resident defenses continue to perform well? 7) Does my PC/browser performance remain unaffected? 8) Is (manual) updating trouble-free? (No automatic updates for beta-ware for me!) 9) Does the scanner remove (not merely detect) infections? 10) Is there a quarantine/restore option (in case of false positive detections)? 11) Are false positive detections infrequent? 12) Are deletions of FPs benign? Having beta-tested MBAM from the beginning, I can state that the answer to all the above is a definitive "yes". The only glitch I encountered was that Comodo Firewall Pro 3 would generate benign 0 byte files during an MBAM scan that subsequent scans detected. Deactivating CFP Advanced+ (HIPS) prior to scanning prevented this. Disclaimer: Apart from beta-testing, I have no association with the author of this product.

Does this tool dump a lot of resident processes on your system, and a few services that run constantly ?

Rated 50/50 by Malwarebytes at Jan 22, 2008

Nope, the program is one process. The monitor is a separate one and can be purchased. It does not run until requested. Let us know if you have any more issues.

I just D/L and tested the latest release. There is still no realtime scanner, so there is still no reason to choose it over fully functional Freeware programs such as Spybot or Spyware Terminator. Detecting Spyware after the fact is too late and pretty useless. Therefore the program itself is pretty useless. My advice is to find a Freeware AS program with a realtime scanner, and avoid such programs.

bobad, i don't get what is your problem? this is free program. don't use it if you don't like it. i don't have nothing against malwarebytes. maybe you are just like metshrine who tries to bash dvdfab all the time. and preinterpost, malwarebytes is free. and use i spybot all the time too.

Funny how we update our definitions 2-3 times a day and our scans are faster than the products you listed yet you still give a 1. Great rating!

Having tested Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.02 fully I can tell you the people at Malwarebytes.org have a lot of work in front of them. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.02 FAILED big time at detecting some test trojans. I wanted to see if Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.02 could detect some test trojans that AVG Anti-Spyware the free version detected right away. Also Lavasoft Ad-Aware 2007 Free version DID NOT have a problem detecting the test trojans either. Lets face it Malwarebytes is small compared to the big boys like Lavasoft and Grisoft just to name a few and Malwarebytes definitions arent up dated daily they have a very small and limited database. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.02 scans are very slow all in all I would say dont bother with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.02

If you check the reviews of this product you will see the high rating simply originates from the developers and their friends (beta testers). Security is serious business. Go with something established. There are plenty of free alternatives.

Rated 30/50 by radiomaffia at Feb 19, 2008

Haven't tested it and read enough allthough I must say I'm surprised that a developer of Malwarebytes has the cutts to be critical on a comment. It shouldn't surprise me that if you purchase and are not satisfed the same funny devoloper is making fun of you then. Devoloper, let the comments the comments it isn't your job to get involved here, who ever you are. Make a good product that is worthfull the money and you will see the ratings are getting higher and that is for both advantage, to get rid of malware&make same money to devolop. Good luck

The mafia author is controlling people's responses here, all negative reviews will be removed ! @Malwarebytes, it's not the ammount of updates that's important, it's the detection-base. @Malwarebytes, it's not the scanning speed that's important, it's recognizing malware.

Rated 30/50 by Malwarebytes at Feb 25, 2008

@De Julien, 1. I am not controlling anybody's responses. I am not a moderator here. I understand it is not about how many updates are released but the detection rate. I was simply defending comments below stating that we did not update our database and that our scans were slow.

IMHO this program has potential, it does have fast scans, it updates frequently. It has not found anything on my system, but I use this only as a back up scanner. Seems light, does'nt have alot of running processes, like some other programs. The only thing I noticed that it said I should uninstall all other previous versions before going to 1.08, I did this, cleaned registry, and I found I still had all my log files from previous scans! Like I said before , this program has Great Potential
