UnDBX 0.20

UnDBX is a tool to extrect email messages from Outlook Express .DBX files. On first invocation all messages will be extracted as individual .eml files. Subsequent invocations will only update the output directory. Any .eml files that do not correspond to messages in the .dbx file will be treated as deleted messages and will be deleted from the disk. Furthermore, only new messages, that do not correspond to files on disk, will be extracted from the .dbx file. UnDBX was written to facilitate fast incremental backup of .dbx files.

It successfully extracted the e-mail files from a DBX file. You have to run it from the DOS command-line.

Easy to use, nothing fancy but it does the job great. Turns all your DBX files into real emails that you can move and open with any program. And it was truly FREE, no registration or anything and it is NOT a trail. I didn't see any, it opens in DOS, but it runs it's self, so who cares. You will be glad you downloaded it, great product.

I've tried it on outlook express DBX files : works fine for me . It would be perfect if the autor could also add a recover function for deleted e-mails.

none, for me Don't know others experience. But, for me, it hung part way through a corrupted .dbx file.

Very quick. No installation needed. Only extracted 27 emails, but I have thousands to extract. I have large corrupted INBOX.DBX file. This seemed to extract 27 emails each as separate EML files. So I tried it again. Same result. Same 27 emails extracted. (Because I have tried a different "try before you buy" program, I know I have thousands of emails that can be extracted.) Tried unDBX a third time. Same result. The price was right, but this program will not solve my problem.

This is a needed tool, though I haven't used OE in a long time. Last I checked the format of DBX files was undocumented. Someone may have documented the format by now, perhaps even Microsoft. If not, the author must have done the dirty work.

It is compact, fast and CAN RUN while OE is active. Most other backup tools lose the recently added mails if OE is active. It does a technically challenged task and it does it well. However you should seek help from someone who knows (ask:) "Do you know how to find all of my dbx files". I like it as it is but because I use undbx as a backup tool I added a BAT-file to "Scheduled Tasks". The BAT-file runs:1) "NET USE" a folder on the server (desktop) where undbx is to store the extracted emails,2) run undbx.hta and redirect undbx's log on %TEMP%\undbx.log.3) "NET USE DELETE" the destination folderOthers might appreciate receiving samples of such a BAT file and/or runtime options for the vbs/hta scripts. I'd appreciate if undbx would save the emails it "deletes" by simply moving them to a "DELETED" sub-folder. Updated on Aug 10, 2010

Worked and its free must read the instructions first. Outlook express interupted during compress and lost all inbox emails. Program recovered all emails.

Recovered 1695 of my emails from a corrupt Outlook Express dbx - whereas another product only recovered 480. It even tried to recover the corrupted emails that caused the problem and put them in a separate folder for you to look at! If you don't know what cmd means then this isn't for you. Excellent at recovering and free. You have to use a command prompt to run it though so not simple for non IT people. Read the README before running it!

It really is free, no catches. Others will only recover a few emails until you purchase, etc. It even retrieves the attachments. Works beautifully! It's slow. It took 6 hours to recover 12,799 emails in a 2 gigabyte dbx file. Very pleased!

Took damaged inbox and extracted 6800+ valid emails. Small executable gets job done without modifying registry. Needs to be run from command line. Takes a long time to run. The software does what it is designed to do. It isn't flashy, it isn't fast, but it is thorough; a lifesaver when needed. The small executable file can be copied into the folder with the DBX file to simplify the command line scripting and erased when completed. Make sure you read the instructions before starting so the script is written correctly. My compliments to the coder.
