uTorrent is an efficient and feature rich BitTorrent client for Windows sporting a very small footprint. It was designed to use as little cpu, memory and space as possible while offering all the functionality expected from advanced clients.

Talking rubbish? Obviously you don't know yourself. This is an alpha people, if you give this 5 stars you are an idiot. This version particularly is not suitable for general use!

protip about the CPU high usage: ALPHA VERSION

Did I hit a nerve Pfurri? Rather than being a gay little fanboy maybe you should admit the faults of programs rather than kissing its a** so blindly. Yes the STABLE version is the best torrent client out there but these are, I repeat, NOT FOR GENERAL USE. Maybe if you actually followed the progress on the forums you would quit trolling and make a relevant comment.

The CPU usage isn't because it's alpha, it's because some stupid moron is uploading debug builds that are supposed to be used only for a few minutes at most, and only by users that were asked to run them by the developers, because they contain code that logs detailed info about each and every packed sent or received by utorrent. You don't have to be a genius to figure out this will completely kill your processor no matter how powerfull it is. To top it, at the end of the download, the log files will be probably bigger than the files you downloaded.

A LOT of programmers have A LOT to learn from this program.... while most other torrent programs are 10-25MB this one is about 275KB. I wish all programs were like this...

I'm giving the product a 5 just because it's a small great torrent program. But this alpha release doesn't work for me: after few seconds will stop responding, so back to a stable version...

While uTorrent is by far my preferred torrent client, I have to give this build a low score. As soon as I installed it, I ran into issues where my torrents would quickly run up to about 20% of my bandwidth, then drop all the way down to 5-12 kBps and stay there. It also made my browser and computer completely non-responsive, most likely due to the debug code mentioned before. I reinstalled the 1.8.1 release, and was instantly back up to my normal transfer speeds.

So if it doesn't work why do you rate it 5??? Another crap. Use azureus!
Rated 10/50 by elopez17 at Dec 29, 2008
I know is ALPHA but I have the same issue as tntoak
Rated 50/50 by Virtual_ManPL at Dec 29, 2008
@ bigmama - remember its ALPHA version only dedicated for TESTERS... and Vuze (old Azureus) is too slow and too memory eating because based on Java... whats I need is fast download and lightweight application uTorrent is answer for this ;)

if the paranoid claims about utorrent were true, would have already been proven for some time, we have security specialists and anyone has access to programs such as Wireshark to analyze traffic ... utorrent is the best torrent program simply because it is lightweight and practical, I see no need to be charging a Java virtual machine just to download torrents, Vuze is very slow and worse - still has not some functions of utorrent, for example, utorrent rename the extensions of the incomplete files to .! ut, Vuze don't! LOL JAVA

Doesn't work with Vista SP2 beta. But I use Usenext anyways. Way better than torrents and download at true speeds if you pay extra. If I have to torrent I use Bitcommet. Fast.

uTorrent is as it is written up to be. Lightweight on system resources BUT the biggest complaint I have is the following: When in the taskbar of Windows Vista, it tends to stay there and neither left nor right mouse click(s) can get it begone, not even the Task Manager fully does this. Although it seems UTorrent is gone, in fact, according to Vista, uTorrent still runs and a "new" start is non comprende. This occurs when (other than security software) only uTorrent is running or another instance of a program of varying size is running as well. Other than that, you will find that you can selectively choose which files within files you want, you can pick and choose. You can read easily just what is coming "in the pipeline". The interface is self explanatory and the author has really left nothing out. It is not a resource hog at all. Yet again, the inability to shut down uTorrent simply by right clicking (at random this happens) is frustrating, requiring a reboot if you truly seek to utilize uTorrent as the author perhaps intends. -W. Kicks the CRAP out of that bloated Java garbage known as Fuze. Did I mention it kicks the crap out of it? It kicks the crap out of it. On a BAD day. FIVE stars.

Don't bother developing for Vista Vista will die immediately after Windows 7 is released, and if anyone still uses Vista in July this year it's a world sensation

I've almost become a uTorrent convert. There are still some things I prefer about Vuze, and some things that are easier (or only possible) with Vuze (e.g. automatically having certain torrents stop once complete, automatically saving torrents of a certain label in desired folders, not needing to keep all the .torrent files to seed, being able to prioritize the download of certain file extensions, etc.). But Vuze's startup and shutdown times--which are measured in eons--annoy the hell out of me. And (Vuze) using well over 100 MB is pretty ridiculous as well. Edit: Bah... After a week of using uTorrent, I'm going back to Vuze. There's just no comparison in terms of power. Vuze is a hog but it makes it so much easier to handle my files. In Vuze, I can simply assign a category, and have files saved where I want, and control how they are seeded. I can share a file between Vuze and PeerGuardian, wheras uTorrent has only a lame IP filter implementation. And Vuze lets me use the automatic upload speed feature when I'm downloading, but not seeding, whereas uTorrent keeps it on all the time. And so on, and on... No comparison. I'll deal with the annoying startup/shutdown times.
