I'm still using 1.6.1 build 490 for the same reasons as above... (monitoring) The entire code changed after this version. Latter versions banned from a lot of trackers. Just google it and download it.

pfg, you are an idiot. Nobody knows how much code changed after it was sold. I doubt very much that much if anything have changed as it's still performing well and the size of the binary hasn't changed. So instead of still spreading your misinformation, would just stop using the software. Or if you really had proof of "snooping" or "spying" just present those facts.

yup, yup.. - for the same reason(s) described in a previous post .. and in "Latest Changes" for the new alpha - went back to 1.8.1 for now... 1.8.1 is pretty solid for me.. and works as a bomb! :) Thanks

Switching to UDP as a communications mechanism is a completely terrible idea.

Rated 50/50 by ubermann at Dec 1, 2008

Simply the best no matter what lame excuse they are trying to fool you with.

still the torrent client i like the most. 1.8.1 is stable and very reliable for me. beware of build 13520, it is only meant for debugging, it will certainly crash or freeze when you try to run it for more than a couple of minutes (as stated in the µtorrent forum).

Bittorrent devs on UDP transfers causing the sky to fall: "The article in the Register is utter nonsense - it completely mischaracterizes what we're trying to do with uTP (we're trying to roll out a protocol that is latency sensitive/performance neutral, NOT a greedy one that kills the internet). The key ideas in his article are: (1) that we implemented uTP purely to evade Bell Canada and Comcast throttling (2) we use raw UDP and didn't bother to implement any congestion control mechanism. Both of these are completely untrue." "In general uTP is designed to detect congestion and throttle back send rates as soon as congestion is spotted. It can do this as it continuously monitors the time it takes for a packet to be sent from one of our peers to another one of our peers. If the time taken for a packet to arrive starts to degrade we will infer that there may be congestion about to happen. It will throttle back accordingly. This contrasts with TCP which has a congestion control method that relies entirely on detecting packet loss before inferring that congestion may be occurring - this is ok, but by definition the problem has already happened at this point and will probably be spotted by the end user." "The point of uTP is to make BitTorrent protocol efficiently use available bandwidth if and only if other applications are not competing for the same bandwidth. Protocols that do not implement this will continue to send regardless (e.g. in the case of TCP until packet loss occurs). - this isn't going to solve all the problems on the internet, but it will make sure that congestion impacts to the end user experience will not be caused by our clients." This FUD about uTP is being spread by The Register in their usual scruple-deficient grubbing for page hits and by the author of the article, who is a well-known anti-network-neutrality and anti-P2P ideologue. Keep these obvious agendas in mind when sifting through their various scare tactics

the latest Beta is completely unstable on my XP system and kept freezing within seconds switching back to the non-Beta solved the problems.

Given a 1 rating for changing from TCP to UDP as default to get around ISP throttling so now everyone who does online gaming, VOIP or any other realtime critical internet communications is going to really suffer. Read how Bittorent will swamp the internet and why uTorrent should be boycotted: http://www.theregister.c...rd_bennett_utorrent_udp/

uTorrent is a great P2P application. I don't know if it's the best or not.. as it's the only one I used in such a long time & I can't remember the others. :) "scruple-deficient grubbing"..? LOL. But it is el (Biting the hand that feeds IT) Reg you're talking about, of course they have no scruples. It's one of their most endearing features. ;)

All I said was it crashes my modem. Scary enough for ya?

People should not take the first news report on any given subject as being gospel. Doing so is just plain retarded. http://tech.slashdot.org...pl?sid=08/12/01/2331257

CPU runs at around 40% when just uploading. Around 60-80 when downing. Also seems to basically choke on itself. Better speeds with 181

Rated 20/50 by Hellgod77 at Dec 3, 2008

it would be perfecr if it didnt max cpu at %50 or more.

Rated 20/50 by darkfire79 at Dec 4, 2008

The Alpha release right before this one ran fine.. This one eats up 90% of my processor for some reason. Fix that and it gets a 5.

Rated 50/50 by yassgo at Dec 4, 2008

Still the BEST torrent client ! Recommended by all the best Private trackers I use...with Azureus which I think is a second choice for persons who don't use lot of optionnal settings like me. Stop reviewing this version for its bad things as it's an alpha release...There's a forum to post these types of commentaries. I personnally wait for a beta version to start testing it really. The third choice is Deluge and then BitSpirit but not allowed on all the trackers.

Please guys, stop talking such rubbish (about things which you don't know), or buy a new pc ! Still (by far) the best torrent-client around !
