uTorrent is an efficient and feature rich BitTorrent client for Windows sporting a very small footprint. It was designed to use as little cpu, memory and space as possible while offering all the functionality expected from advanced clients.

I think 1.7.7 still works better with some private trackers, so I'll stick with older one (1.7.7 build 8179, as far as I remember). @bigmama grow up! it has NOTHING to do with RIAA! tweaking? lol dude ;) @kholdstare it was a misstypo... PS please update the screenshot, it's really out-of-date

Pound for pound this client is the king of BT clients. Very impressive. However it lacks some features of more powerful clients like Azureus or whatever their newly hired marketing chimps call it these days. A Must have for a portable application collection though.

There's already a new version of this beta 1.8 - build 8912
Rated 50/50 by grislkenbaum at Mar 13, 2008
µTorrent keeps getting better. The 1.8 beta 1 build 8912 is the result of a 4 month public alpha testing. It includes everything you expect from uT (being small, and feature-filled) and even has some added goodies due to request. These include: magnet support, queue thresholds for fully utilizing your connection, and a clean-up of the interface allowing RSS and torrents in the same listview. No uT does not include all the features of the plugin-based Azureus (Does uT support plugins... but the WebUI API is so versatile you don't need to be at your computer or even have the main GUI opened to manipulate torrents) however nothing which adds utility is really lacking.

I've got to say, i'm surprised this hasn't gone down hill yet after it got taken over. Actually, I'm very happy that it has actually slightly improved over time. I'm still playing it safe though, got my trigger-finger ready in case I have to move to something open-source in the event that ads/spycrap/bloat & privacy issues start hitting the fan....

UPDATE for Prospero424: You can get the older versions at File Hippo: http://www.filehippo.com/download_utorrent/ Just so you know, I was very actively involved with Utorrent testing and usage, to the point where Firon and the programmer were getting darn tired of my constant comments. I personally have v1.6 build 474 because I was using Utorrent long before that release and I still have it archived and backed up. :) I didn't specifically say 1.6 was physically faster, but did say it was more efficient. Explain to me what has been added to Utorrent since v1.6 build 474 that would account for the large percentage increase in file size. Yeah, a 264k app may not seem big, but this is Utorrent we are talking about and the last official version before the sale is only 174k. Don't you wonder what they've put in the code that accounts for that huge percentage increase in file size? ORIGINAL POST: Still prefer the last TRUE Utorrent client v1.6 build 474 to this app, and find both Azureus and Bit Spirit to be better than any Utorrent build later than 474. The app has really gone downhill since the original programmer / creator stopped doing all the programming. When he was the only one that touched the code, the app seemed to get better and better with each release. Selfishly, as a fan of his work, I really wish he hadn't sold it. v1.6 Build 474 = 174,163 bytes v1.8 Beta 9599 = 264,496 bytes Don't need all that bloat on what used to be one hyper-efficient client.

@DudeBoyz Dude, did you ever bother to install 1.8? I was active when you used to post and I'm still active these days on their forums. Just give it a try and you'll see the major improvements. And dude, let us know what you think about uT after you use for a while the aplication, okay?

DudeBoyz: As far as the file size increase, there were FORTY features added just going from version 1.7 to 1.7.7. These aren't bugfixes, they're new features in the code like local peer discovery, support for SSL-encrypted RSS feeds, NAT-PMP support, auto upload throttling, and LOTS of code for proper interaction with Vista (1.6 has problems with Vista). These features I just listed were all added in just the first build of 1.7. Much has been added between that and 1.7.7, as well. And then there's all of the new features of 1.8 (some of which I list below). The bottom line is that significant features have been added that explain the size difference perfectly reasonably. Here's a link to the 1.7.x-series changelog: http://download.utorrent....7.7/utorrent-1.7.7.txt and here's a changelog for the 1.8 alpha/beta series: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=31998 Pay special attention to the lines beginning with "Feature:". Original post: Really? These other clients are not better than 1.6 but they are better than 1.7-1.8? How? I want you to tell me how, specifically, 1.6 is "better" and why these later version are worse without resorting to unfounded conspiracy theories. I also want specific details of how this project has gone "downhill". Tell me the numbers and how you've benchmarked the different versions. Go ahead. And then you can explain how a 250KB app can be considered "bloated" in friggin' 2008! Sorry if I seem snarky, it's just that every single person I've seen making these claims of 1.6 being faster, to a ONE, has been lying their butts off. 90% of them haven't even TRIED the new versions, yet claim to have "solid results" that their preferred version is faster. So if you have evidence that these new versions are somehow worse, please present it. FYI, nobody anywhere on the internet I'm aware of (and I've looked, believe me) has yet been able to do this. When they're pressed,
