"Easy does it." Powerful program, low memory consumption, versatile and clean. downloading torrents becomes addictive and your hard drive will most likely suffer for it. And it doesn't help that the more space you have the more you download. uTorrent is simple, clean and fast you couldn't ask more of a program; but if you have an OCD the customization and scheduling will keep you in pocket as well.

vuze is a better option. With lazy bit field, Encryption, and IP blocking you can virtually make your downloading anonymous and safe.

Better than that, don't download illegally. Unfortunately utorrent is the best torrent client for windows, next I would say vuze...which actually is open source. Three stars, get rid of the adware option please.

If you're concerned about people being able to see what you are downloading with uTorrent, one thing you can use is Peer Block (http://www.peerblock.com/). I think uTorrent is probably the best torrent only software out there. However, I like Shareaza and Frostwire better because they also allow you to download from other networks.

How do I know they don't know what people are downloading? Because if they did, most of these people would certainly have known about it by now, rather than simply being worried about it! But, uhh... Karlo, uTorrent is not open source: http://www.utorrent.com/faq#faq2 "Is µTorrent open source? No. It is not likely to become open source ever." And johnk, uTorrent also supports lazy bitfield, protocol (not data) encryption, and IP blocking (although it's a weak implementation). Data encryption isn't going to protect you from what most people here are worried about anyway.

First of all uTorrent is open source. A lot of people has an access to it's entire code. Why would they put up a spyware in the first place? At the same time, Ask.com toolbar is probably the reason why there's a newer version of the Ask toolbar. It it wasn't for the Ask.com toolbar, then fine. There are developers of uTorrent, but do they have enough money to buy food etc while working on the uTorrent project? Ask.com is probably paying some of the miscellaneous expenses made by the uTorrent team. And again, it's up to you if you really want to install the toolbar or not. In summary, uTorrent is the best torrent client ever.

Simple, easy to use torrent manager that is light on resources and fast. None found so far. This was my first torrent manager that I have tried and so far the best in my opinion. I've tried a few other programs but didn't like them as much as uTorrent. Be wary though that there have been rogue installers of uTorrent lurking about the internet that require users to pay a fee or even contain malicious files such as trojans on fake websites. A legitimate copy of uTorrent has a warning page about this during installation. If you want to give this program a try, trust and download from CNET or its official website.

"was good, but v1.8.5 keeps crashing" downloads sometimes version 1.8.5 crashes every two hours like clockwork. google "utorrent crashes" and you'll find the utorrent forum where people have been begging for fixes since 2005

"The best bit torrent program" I was stubborn and used BitComet for years after hearing multiple reasons why I shouldn't. Plain and simple, uTorrent is one of the smallest, lightest programs I've ever encountered and I can run it 24/7 as it barely takes up any memory. If a movie is only partially downloaded, it still shows up in your download folder as complete. But that's a minor complaint. No ads on it, not a memory hog like BitComet. Excellent, don't waste your time with others.

"nice torrent client" gets the jobs done, is light, and is good not exactly trustworthy as it is closed source. combine with PeerBlock just in case. one of the best torrent clients but would be better if it were open source Updated on Jan 22, 2010
