Inkscape is an open source SVG editor with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, Visio, etc. Supported SVG features include basic shapes, paths, text, alpha blending, transforms, gradients, node editing, svg-to-png export, grouping, and more. Its main motivation is to provide the Open Source community with a fully XML, SVG, and CSS2 compliant SVG drawing tool.

Inkscape is simply an excellent graphics program. If you need to create or annotate maps, drawings, prototypes, exhibits, etc., Inkscape will let you be creative for free. There are a few rough spots and bugs, but Adobe has as many frustrations. Some pro illustrators may need more, 80% of typical users won't. Linux may never take the place of Windows, but every year open source programs get better and become excellent replacements for commercial offerings. I need a graphics program a couple times a month and don't want to spend $600. Inkscape is a mature program, users who are willing to work around the few limitations and bugs will find a program that almost always does the job and is fun to use.

Easy to use. It has quite a large set of features considering the price. I like it. I especially like that everything can be set numerically rather than just graphically. None that I have found.

It's free and really can do a lot of things 2D and 3D. Very useful for people interested in graphic design both for the web and print. It takes time to learn to use its full potential. There are no serious tutorials available unless you pay for them. The software is free but the full users' guides available must be paid for. I think this kind of software is very useful for people that want to develop their graphic skills without spending money.I was looking for something quick and easy to use to add graphic content to my web pages and inkscape doesn't fit.

Great photo manipulation. It had a ton of options. It looks like a lot of fun! Every file format that I tried saving with was not compatible with OpenOffice or Scribus. No easy uninstall - that I could find. I finally had to use my computer's control panel. To make the files compatible, I think I needed to download several more plug-ins. Sorry, I don't have that kind of computer knowledge and I needed a ready to use program without a bunch more downloads.
