Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1 Build 20090706

Media Player Classic by guliverkli2 Screenshot Media Player Classic Screenshot

Media Player Classic is an extremely light-weight media player for Windows. It looks just like Windows Media Player v6.4, but has many additional features. It has a built in DVD player with real-time zoom, support for AVI subtitles, QuickTime and RealVideo support (requires QuickTime and/or Real Player), and lots more.

I stand corrected wit MPC. I said that the picture quality was better with KMPlayer but after watching There will be Blood I noticed a difference right at the begining with a shot of some clouds. MPC showed them and KMPlayer made them too bright to make out. BUT MPC is still rather buggy and BS Player oddly enough has the best image quality of them all so I've gone back to that after a few years away. Like others said, Home Cinema edition of MPC is the way to go if your going to have MPC. If you don't know this unlike GOM, KMPlayer and VLC does not play most files without adding codecs. Based on my recent tests with video players I would rank them like this 1)BS Player - Best picture quality 2)KMPlayer - only one that can play nsv files 3)MPC 4)Gom Player 5)VLC - Best for streaming video

Its the best at what it does. Its not something that would replace a jukebox type of application (itunes, wmp, media center, etc), but for a player thats light on the OS and full of features, its worth a try.

Changelog : MPC: Added revision number to About dialog LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please people, this tool is abandonned and buggy as hell. Get a real media player like KMPlayer or SMPlayer.

This sadly has been getting noticeably buggier for me as time goes on. Changed to GOM Player. Would rather use MPC but I get a fair amount of freezes etc. Will keep it around tho. Like the video contact sheet indexing feature in it. Anyone know of another app that does this?

Ryusennin: I agree, which is why I've switched. the torch has been passed. FOUR stars for a groundbreaking proggie that has slipped into second place.

MPC is a great player, but I have to say that MPC HomeCinema is a lot more stable.

Rated 50/50 by shtraue at Jul 29, 2008

I find MPC to be more stable, than MPC-HC. MPC-HC however, has more advanced settings, for those who need them.

As others have mentioned, this program used to be at the top of the heap of replacement WM players, but now it's showing it's age and other players such as The KMPlayer have totally eclipsed it in terms of functionality and stability. Why don't they increment the version number (the NORMAL way to designate a new version) instead of keeping it and changing the "build date" instead? Time to move on from MPC, I'm afraid..

MPC + ffdshow is still the best combination for me. Small, stable and simple interface.

no point of raising a dead project. until they join the branches (with MPC HC) I will be using HC as I am happy with it. It is stupid to keep alive 2 different branches with 2 different problems to fix ;) and the fault is here, not on HC side...

"But.. Why would you want to make something that is compatible wit Windows 2000? How many people in the world runs that 10 year old OS?" At least hundreds of thousands of businesses across the world.

Perhaps because there is so little difference between the core functionality of the nt5 and 6 kernels?

Media player classic and MPC home theater are the absolute best media player in the world by the moment. An old PC and this player is all you need for your living room media center! But.. Why would you want to make something that is compatible wit Windows 2000? How many people in the world runs that 10 year old OS? Why not call it Media Player Clasic for Windows 7/8 and XP?
