Google Earth combines satellite imagery, maps and the power of Google Search to put the world's geographic information at your fingertips. Fly from space to your neighborhood. Type in an address and zoom right in. Search for schools, parks, restaurants, and hotels. Get driving directions. Tilt and rotate the view to see 3D terrain and buildings. Save and share your searches and favorites. Even add your own annotations.

Unfortunately, I did not keep the older version of this software, 5.x, which worked better on my machine. It also did not move into the panning view without notice, which I find very annoying. I'm sure that no one will care about this, as Google does not seem to be catering to anyone anymore where certain things are concerned - such as asking me where I wanted to install this. The setup simply went where it wanted, without asking about any custom path I might want. Not good programming style, and becoming more and more prevalent, since many people today have no idea what a hierarchy of things is all about. As was noted, the pics don't come from Google, so that is beyond their ability to change, but the interface is still very strange to my way of thinking - the entire operation feels foreign, and seems to get less user friendly as each version is released.

For people that don't know google does NOT own or operate their own satellite, so the pictures are NOT google property they are "borrowed" from NASA, the pictures are taken from space (in case you didn't know that either) or a high altitude airplane. So if the pictures are not updated frequently enough for you.. call NASA complain to them, google makes software NOT spaceships.

Correct, Google is just using other entities images... But they do label and date them and I can assure you that my area is dated 2011 and it is definitely NOT a 2011 image. Either way it is very good software.

@rjparker1 Whats that for an idiot answer? Of course Google publishes the images and regardless if they are owner or not they should contact Nasa and tell them 80% is far outdated....
