Foxit Reader is a free PDF document viewer and printer, with incredible small size, breezing-fast launch speed and amazingly rich feature set. Its core function is compatible with PDF Standard 1.7.

Uh oh, this app now installs ASK toolbar in your browsers, appears to be no way to opt out of that during install... I smell evil... Sumatra here I come!

I just downloaded this and although I have only used it twice now it seems to be 100% better than adobe! It took only a couple of minutes to download, compare that to Adobe which takes 30 minutes or more (and I still could not get Adobe 9 to download). I just give up on Adobe - have Adobe 8 on my computer and it won't uninstall to install version 9. Adobe reader 8 is corrupted and won't open and during 9 partial installation it took off my even older version of Adobe so I couldn't read any of my PDFs anymore. After two days of fiddling with Adobe and starting to pull my hair out, I found Foxit. Never heard of it before but I'm glad I downloaded it. I do recommend to install this with custom settings and not install all the extras like Ask.com and ebay toolbar. So far I am very happy with this. (I have XP and downloaded on Mozilla) I would give a rating of 5 but I have only had it for a day. But seems to be 110% better than Adobe.

I know that I don't have to install all the crap it want's me too, but even so I just can't support it for the adware etc. crap. Once an author goes down that route, well it's a slippery slope.

Excellent PDF reader! It's a small install, it's fast and it works. The only reason for not giving this piece of software a 5/5 is that it seems the developers are beginning to add "features" which reminds me of all the reasons to find alternate versions like I once did with Adobe. All sorts of features in the installer most of which I'd pass on and thankfully still can but also the updater features allows me to install all sorts of things I have no idea what's for. This latter features actually reminds me a lot of the same features Adobe has. Is Foxit PDF Reader beginning to loose it's own reason for existing?

The smallest and fastest *.pdf reader around. But: BE CAREFUL WHEN INSTALLING - it offers a lot of adware crap. But well, developers gotta eat too I guess...

Back to Foxit from Sumatra & CoolPDF - Foxit loads faster and I like the interface much better than others. Not too difficult to not install the "junk"...sheesh.

You are not FORCED to install anything. PS: Current version is build 1301. Foxit Setup -> Next License Terms -> Agree (choose) Custom Install -> Next Settings & plugins dialog (choose as you wish) INSTALL After you click INSTALL, you are presented with another dialog containing 3 checkboxes; * I accept License Terms & want to install Foxit Toolbar (Note this is the license terms for the toolbar - NOT for foxit itself. You had already agreed earlier to the foxit license terms.) * Make Ask.com my default search * Reset my homepage to Foxit Startpage All 3 options can be unchecked. Upon unchecking, it does present a warning; "By NOT installing this toolbar the following items will not be available for free use; Typewriter Tools, Text Viewer & Text Converter." Typewriter DOES work. It is only that if you SAVE the document it is watermarked. AFAIK, this is the way it has always been with the free version. (The two Text tools, I really don't use, so I don't know if there is a difference there?) NEXT Setup Completed! At that point, you are then presented with yet another dialog that by default will create eBay icons. Uncheck it & click Finish. Done.

Great SW, although lacking some high-end features of Adobe Reader. However, deducted two stars for the forced install of Ask spyware crap toolbar.

Good software, but I just have to rate it 3 for the adware it tries to sneak in.

I've been using FoxIt for well over a year. Never saw any adware in this or any previous version. The other poster must be hallucinating.

what adware ?
Rated 30/50 by moog at Mar 10, 2009
used to love it but now with all ad ware takes twice the time to install it

It's good and lighter than Acrobat Reader, but choose custom when installing (and pay close attention). You really run the gauntlet during install removing their own Firefox toolbar, ask.com, ebay icons, the resetting of your home page, and unruly check boxes that nefariously re-enable themselves when your back is turned. Lowering rating because of this BS.

Awful! It's now not freeware but CRIPPLEWARE! Take a look at these links: - Freeware Foxit pdf Reader too will now install Ask toolbar ... else get crippled ! (http://www.winvistaclub.com/s27.html) - Beware Foxit Reader Includes AskToolbar! (http://securitygarden.bl...ncludes-asktoolbar.html) Bye, bye, Foxit! Thanks for the memories when you were actually freeware

Exactly Yassgo, I recently descovered PDF Xchange too after I was a bit disappointed about the installer of Foxit (I don't want a toolbar or change my homepage!). And to be honest PDF Xchange is way better and faster to print documents , is fast and they have a portable version. The only advantage of Foxit is that it is x-platform.

Good PDF viewer ! It was the best one until I discovered PDF XChange Viewer (Freeware) !

Now unacceptable. Too much garbage. FoxIt is no longer Freeware. It's bloatware, crippleware, nagware, and crapware. Too many strings attached to be called "Freeware" with this release. There are truly free alternatives available. Too bad, FoxIt is a great program beneath all the garbage. I suggest keeping the last clean release or grabbing a clean alternative.
Rated 50/50 by NightFright at Mar 11, 2009
The best alternative to Adobe Reader you can find. To avoid the nagware stuff they are offering you in the installer version, be sure to get the zipped version. You won't need much more than the mere executable file, anyway. Perfect program for USB drives!
