Fast, Stable & Lightweight Does not integrate perfectly with Firefox

Rated 10/50 by Jan Walsschaert at Jun 29, 2010

It's perhaps more bloated than the original. For simple a lightning fast viewing, just get SUMATRA PDF Viewer, you don't even need to install that program.

I've been using FoxIt happily for a couple years now, until recently. Most pdf that I attempt to open from a webpage hang foxit. The last straw was Foxit installing an IE and FireFox toolbar, which I can not remove from IE. Onto next free PDF reader. Goodbye

So Foxit just decided to hijack my default setting for PDF reader from PDFX-Change Viewer. Take a running jump over that cliff Foxit....

Good, but a distant second place to PDF X-Change viewer.

It is relatively small unlike its competition. easy to install, opens itself very quickly. fairly easy to use, converts files quite well. It is a no fuss, uncomplicated product that is reliable. No dislikes really It is a real alternative to Adobe, and unlike Adobe is not bloated, and is for sure a lot less expensive. Its file handling is fast and secure. Good allround product and a real alternative to a very expensive alternative.

Just as good as it ever was. Apparently, not mindless installer friendly. If you are too impatient to read installation instructions and choices, pay for a reader. It doesn't install anything you allow. Updated on Jun 30, 2010

Simple and light weight. Asks to install toolbars when installing

Rated 30/50 by jamieone at Jun 30, 2010

You almost have to be an attorney to navigate through the installation process. Way too many boxes to check and unchecked, and when you think you're finally finished...you get a tool bar you didn't ask for. It installs a tool bar, even when you didn't ask for one....plus does anyone really need all those options? Or is it just extra bells and whistles no one really needs? Usually, the simpler the better. Just be a PDF reader, you were a good one once.

Unlike Adobe's free PDF reader it opens quickly and has a small footprint. Foxit PDF reader has become increasingly more intrusive over the years in their desire to get the user to install certain toolbars and icons. The adware I now see in Foxit PDF Reader is really unwanted, not just by me but by most of the reviewers of this version. They should really rethink their "heavy handed" installation policy of features and adware icons. I know that this kind of thing often accompanies freeware applications but it's nevertheless undesired. This nonsense has chased me from the Foxit fold. I now use the new and highly lauded Nitro PDF Reader. It's fast, also has a small footprint, and has many more features. Needless to say it doesn't come with unwanted adware. Another well rated PDF reader is PDF-XChange Viewer.

Just finished the install and double checked that everything installed the way I wanted (It did.) I will update my rating after using the program a bit. Please see my summary below to avoid the installation of unwanted items. The need to be extra careful during install to avoid unwanted items. To avoid the installation of unwanted items, make sure you click "Decline" when it asks if want Ask.com as your homepage and default browser search provider (I unchecked the options before clicking decline.) Then do the "Custom" install if you'd like to avoid the desktop shortcut, quick launch toolbar icon and Firefox plugin. ( I allowed the Start Menu icon and installation for all users.) I also allowed the enabling of Safe Reading mode in the Trust Manager (which can be undone later if desired.) Before clicking the "Install" button, you can review all of your installation options. After setup is completed, you will then be presented with the options to Run Foxit Reader, view the Readme.txt file, make Foxit your default PDF reader and, in case you weren't sure the first time :-), you can have a destop, quick launch and start menu icon to eBay added if you don't uncheck that option. Again, if you are careful and run the custom install, nothing will get installed that you don't want.

Free, Does everything acrobat does and more, and uses a lot less resources than Acrobat You do have to read the Install prompts and un-check a lot of boxes. I'm the IT Guy at a church and we have a lot of older, low resource machines in various rooms throughout the church. Acrobat was so resource hungry some machines would hang for literally 60 secs before opening a 1 page PDF. And printing it would take another minute. Foxit Reader is sooooo much faster. Its true that you have to uncheck a lot of boxes if you don't want bloat ware on the computer, but I've never had it "Force" anything on these computers. And again... I've done this install at least 10 times. If your running a low resource machine like a netbook or older computer, this is the PDF Reader for you... or if your just tired of Adobe Acrobat updating every 2 days, then this is a great alternative.

Don't have anything good to say about now!! Returning to the prior version. Full of crapware! And you end up with ASK toolbar, like it or not !!!! When ever i install new software or update existing software i always carefully un-check the boxes i don't require, and use custom install where available. Now, i remember pacifically not requesting for ASK toolbar !! Finish the install, reboot and start my browser.... and guess what i see???????????!!!!! A huge ASK toolbar on my Firefox!!!! I did not ask for it, and to put it in a nutshell "i was peeed!!!" I don't really have much else to say. Only that this version has now been uninstalled and i am going back to version 3.3.0.0430 with immediate affect! By the way, you can install older version at filehippo.com Do us all a favour, don't force your crapware onto us OK!!!

Have to be careful not to use its updater, and it wants to install a bunch of crap like toolbars and front page b.h.o.s- Yuck! but it does have a nice Firefox plugin. Anyway.....

Better value than alternative. Ask.com toolbar installs regardless of what's clicked during installation on some machines not others. I believe that this is an attempt to get paid users of Version 3 (ad-free) to buy their Phantom PDF Suite. In the past upgrading would only cost about $19.95. I can't find how much it costs to upgrade from Phantom 1 to 2 but to go from Reader Pro 3 to Phantom 2 it's $129 - no discounts.

its free..its the best...fast and efficient... none so far!! Well for all users who are already using foxit ..y the hell they installed the software again???..they shud have simply updated the programe...just update..its hassle free..no adverts...

Rated 10/50 by pjafrombbay at Jul 3, 2010

I've had it with this product. Its a very good PDF reader but they package it with the Ask Toolbar which is installed even when you specifically de-select the option. I'd rather pay a small shareware fee than put up with this underhand behavior. I'll go back to Adaobe or another viewer. Peter

Download ZIP from the official website and stop crying about installed plugins and toolbars which you can disselect during installation... Still the fastest in browsing PDFs

Small and used to be super fast on my XP machine. I've never gotten it to work well on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 box. There is a huge delay (5+ seconds) opening PDFs that Adobe Reader opens in a second. If the speed issue can get fixed for Windows 7 x64 then I'd be happy to give Foxit another try because it was my default PDF reader on all my XP machines.
