FS uses 24Mb on startup, XNView uses 15. XN starts up a split second faster. FS definitely has some good ideas though. such as the menus that you can see when moving the mouse to different edges of the screen in full-screen view mode. I'll up my rating to a 4, but it'll never get 5 until they quit forcing the program to use skins mode. This will give the interface an all-round speed improvement and improve memory usage too. Interestingly enough, FS also have a separate "image resizer program" which supports "batch" mode - this functionality is already built into XNView. Until they improve certain aspects of this program - for example the ability to choose your windows positioning (XN gives you 8 relative layouts to choose from) as well as the terrible speed of viewing pictures with the Lanczos3 smoothing enabled (there seems to be NO read-ahead cache and pics take ages to load, whereas XN, even with high-quality resizing, loads them in an instant whilst both caching ahead and keeping the current image in the cache), I'd suggest simply getting XN - there's literally no point in using FS at this time. They're both free and you just get more with XN.

"all you want" Perfect image viewer. Slide show possible. And many tools to quick resize, crop to anything or 3:2, 3:4, ....., digital camara info view (shutter time, did flash fire, ...) and the most elementary image improvements (gamma, rotation per 0.1deg, ...) none; can't think of any. Oh yes: I would like to be able to change the zoom setting when I click the image.

"Fast Easy to use viewer." It just works after installing.Loads of features Duplex scanning with a sheet feeder doesn't work, and pages cannot be stacked. If it did this I would ditch "Pagemaker". This could be a serious business tool to manage files, but it is free. If they ever add the missing features, I would gladly pay for them. Its viewing features knock the spots off my current program

"good basic viewer" quick start-up, simple understandable interface, presets for cropping to many standard picture sizes red eye correction too clumsy to use; printing does not allow selection of standard size photo paper (such as 4x6) an interesting competitor for Google's Picasa and ExifPro (which costs about $20). The interface is simpler and easier to navigate, but the other two offer photo editing features that work well, although they are slower to start up.

"Does it all!" Viewing: excellent. Editing: Very good. Comparison: Very good. Unable to "lock in" magnification level when going from picture to picture.

"User Friendly" Very easy to use, fast load time. Have had printer issues after some windows auto updates, usually have to re download FastStone program. Have bought quite a few expensive photo/viewer programs that are either too complicated or do not deliver-FastStone delivers without jargon.Have donated twice-hows that for a ref.?

"Great tool" Quick and easy installation. I needed someway to view thumbnails of the Microsoft WMF files that I have collected over the years, after Microsoft decided that thumbnails of their own WMF files were too dangerous to see. Why is this required???? If you work with any WMF files you will find a Thumbnail is easier to use than trying to remember what thousands of randomly generated file names like BUTN011.WMF actually look like.

"Does what it;s desgned to do" converts images to any other format you want capture tool is clunky. The other capture tool is shareware. If you need a tool to convert to other formats this will meet your needs.

"Great Program to see a lot of photos fast" Can run through a number of Photos, Tag the ones I want to look at - from different folders - and bring the tagged ones up to view only them. Tags are restricted to one tag. Would be nice to put in your tag names. I like it, does what it is designed to do and does it very well.

"Fast, free, fairly intuitive, allows basic editing." Fast, free, intuitive folder explorer, basic fixing, cropping etc. After cropping and saving to file you see the crop box has moved to elsewhere on your photo and you think, "Oh no," but it's OK, the correct cropped area has been saved.

"Top 3 Image Viewer" Easy and fast to manage after getting used to the functioning. It doesn't load images like Picasa does on the background which sometimes gets annoying. It loads images smoothly and can load CR2, raw files which is superb! Few setups like switch view mode to window mode and some others depends on your personal taste then it becomes a very good image viewer. I highly recommend this product, it is one of the best image viewer out there.
