Very Helpful Program and i Think it will Become Better.

Rated 40/50 by The MAZZTer at Mar 19, 2008

This program does what it claims to do and it does it well, but I can't help but want MORE. First of all, the interface is too much. The Office 2k7 interface was invented to help users more easily find options that were previously buried in Office 2k3. UpdateStar does not have a problem with too many options... in fact I think it would benefit from a simpler interface. Also while being able to track new versions of some programs and offer download and website links to some is nice, you still have to download and install each program by hand. A more automated approach would have been appreciated. There are plenty of obvious problems with this... some installers can be run silently to automatically install into a specific folder, others cannot and harder, hackish methods would have to be used. Perhaps a community-driven system where users could submit definition files they make for automatically downloading and installing specific programs would work for this. Regardless, this tool is useful and does its job. I just wish a tool called "UpdateStar" would actually UPDATE something.

I uninstalled UpdateStar in favor of SUMo. However, I might go back if they fix some of the bugs that annoyed me.

I used to really like UpdateStar and at first I was very patient even when getting slow responses from technical support. I even have tried hard to help them to get things right and even offered to help them more directly without charge. While they did use a couple of very small suggestions most were ignored. I even sent in correction submissions for 2 months on 2 programs that were merged into one and when they finally separated the two, all of the updated information that I had submitted including corrected links and a complete description for the one I use was deleted and so all that was available was that the program existed and what version I had on my computer. Thanks Guys. However, I was told that they were only in beta and to give it time. Well they have had lots of time and it has become nearly useless. I have lost all hope. I have tried in vain to get them to stop listing Vista OS only driver and software updates when I and most others are using XP. Why can't they just look at the OS installed and list the update accordingly. That's not how it works. They can't even list the latest update for the version that I have installed. They can only list the latest version that you can buy as an upgrade. I am sure they get a kick back if you buy it. So if I need to upgrade an older version I have to manually find it. However, the worst flagrant uselessness is listing beta versions!!! I have tried until I am blue in the face to get them to never list beta versions as upgrades since most people should never use betas because they don't understand enough to know when a beta might not be working and could be causing them to loose data or creating system problems. Also betas are sometimes not even available to the public so telling someone that the only update available is a beta is just a time and space waster. These have no link listed to update, so what's the point here? They are now even listing updates that don't exist except in a blog or someth

nicely designed and completely free, especially when compared with VersionTracker. Told me I have 23 updates waiting, but you can ignore programs you do not want to update, so i only track a few important ones now. does only support few drivers, but who cares about drivers too much? it delivers the updates and it's a free service, and I like the complete PC setups they offer.

Looks good nice interface Tried to update Update Star and could not shut it down to start its own update. Second thing I did not like was that I was unable to program when it was to run, it was always interfering with games, flashing through the game. Bottom line rarely used, I mainly do games and email with some surfing for mods and freeware and write ups on products. It would be nice if it did what you want when you want. Up dates are not always a good thing.

runs silently and efficiently a few false positives occasionally it's a good program to have and it's free to the bargain

Not free at all, will redirect your browser to their site asking you to buy the premium edition that is actually the one that works, this one does not. Rubbishware in the house. Worthless software. Don't download cheaterware.

It has an easy interface and a nice look. Scans nearly all installed software. There are a lot of software available free that work better than Update Star. Didn't really like it.

nothing at all, decieving advertisement was not what it says, not free at all, has limitations till you buy it, if a software is free, then it should be free, otherwise it must be a ripoff, things should not be advertised as free and no limitations unless they are exactly that

Easy to uninstall. DOES NOT report accurately. Software is scanned only according to ORIGINAL version installed on the date of installation. Also from the first scan one is pressured to BUY "better" products. UpdateStar was a disappointment beginning with the confusing user interface, filled with useless, irrelevent information. I make sure my software is updated. I would have expected it to find everything up-to-date, or perhaps a program or two I missed. Instead it reported Quite a number of updates for my software. When I double-checked the items it said should be updated, not only did I find everything was up-to-date, but I noticed the "scheme" this software uses. It finds the oldest, earliest entries from the date of original installation. It has no way of determining subsequent updates to installed software. To show its total incompetence, it was not even able to read most installed software, reporting them as unknown versions. This is most likely because I clean and eliminate temp and install setup files, and i keep my registry nice and clean. To download this product is a WASTE OF TIME! It can't do the job it supposedly was made to do. What it does do is pester the user to upgrade the UpdateStar to better versions (for a price). I was very happy to uninstall UpdateStar from my system. UpdateStar is USELESS!!!

I've been using UpdateStar for around a year now. It works smoothsly and informs you of new versions of installed software every few days. It also allow you to recommend links to download new software versions. Give it a try.

Provides a good, quick look at all your programs, their version status and the urgency of any needed version updates. with the same info provided by other programs as secondary functions to their main purpose....it's not hard to immagine life without it...........or not? It's not unusual to run "UPDATE STAR FREE" and find programs they have already been running the latest version available after being made aware by another source. Maybe Premium version would correct that I don't know.

Rated 40/50 by marlonmarescia at May 24, 2009

not too hard to work out a lot of advertising to upgrade to premium version I also use www.ssw.com.au/ssw/Diagnostics which does a similar job

+ nice scanner showing all installed software versus updates - why should I pay for downloading foreign software nice idea, bad realization. Over all that software should be free - in that case it would be a nice benefit.

Nice presentation of installed software but that's about it Found software that needed updating and installed a German update. How clever is that? The main thing this software does it to sell the rest of their software This product is based on a great idea but is a bad example of implementation. I had such high hopes and would have thought about paying but I'm glad they had a test although I only tested for an hour. After that hour it was so bad that I uninstalled it and tried the free version that does absolutely nothing except want you to install the paid version.
