BitTorrent is a protocol for distributing files. It identifies content by URL and is designed to integrate seamlessly with the Web. Its advantage over plain HTTP is that when multiple downloads of the same file happen concurrently, the downloaders upload to each other, making it possible for the file source to support very large numbers of downloaders with only a modest increase in its load.

wonderful p2p downloading speed...!!! brilliant performance consequences....well might just slow down your p.c a bit...but if you've got a good processor then I suppose there's no problem in it

I downloaded Bittorrent, installed and used it to download a file of 2500 E-books that claimed to be 3.4 GB. That part was simple, I could see the parts of the file filling in and the download took seven hours which seemed reasonable. Once I get the file onto my computer it is a 1 MB (not GB) rar file. There is nothing else similar larger than 1 MB. Even though I researched the jargon and assumptions of torrent files before downloading anything, still nothing makes sense. After a download proceeds for seven hours, it is like an elephant laboring and laboring to bring forth a mouse. I installed 7-zip to extract the 1 MB rar file but all it did was produce another 1 MB file called PASSWORD.PROTECTED.RAR with the same size as the original. Nothing works, nothing makes sense, I read the praise comments above with amazement. I have no 3.4 GB file anywhere and no idea of what I am supposed to do to obtain it. Interpreting that will be a whole new experience but I did install Calibre to help me so I am hopeful of being able to view the contained e-books if I can ever puzzle out the arcane torrent process. To be clear, the Bittorrent software seemed to work easily. That wasn't the problem. But throughout the usage, there are all kinds of telegraphic, unexplained options that could be trivial or controlling without help in figuring out what they mean.I will research further.
