Process Lasso 4.00.17

Process Lasso by Bitsum Technologies Screenshot Process Lasso Screenshot

Process Lasso improves system performance, responsiveness, and stability during high loads through dynamic adjustments to process priority classes. It can also automatically terminate undesired processes, apply default priorities and CPU affinities to processes, limit the number of instances a process can have, and log all processes. It is not a task manager replacement, but does have task manager like capabilities to compliment its primary functions.Process Lasso is free for home and academic use, though there are some tolerable nags for the Pro build shown after the product has been installed an extended period. The free build is not in any way crippled. Commercial use requires purchase within 14 days of evaluation. Despite being free for home use, it is now classified as Shareware to prevent any user confusion or complaints.

I got it free today from http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/. Loaded it and immediately felt a boost in responsiveness. Haven't really configured it yet for my use but it made a believer out of me. It's not just another process explorer.

The Program definitly does reign in resource heavy programs. It will smooth out your pcs performance. It will slow down graphic intensive programs, the very ones you may need left alone, But Its easy to open from the system tray and raise your programs performance level back up. The interface is a little confusing and takes some getting use to. Bottom line, if your willing to pay the price Process Lasso will get the job done.

Allows easy viewing of resource-hogging applications Automatically restrains CPU-intensive processes Easy configuration Continually improved Well supported Options are all thrown in under a huge menu, rather than consolidated under a single interface. Genuine problems with the program are always addressed by the developer, if the slightest effort is made to contact him. (This includes the issues mentioned in the CNET editor's review.)

Shortened boot up time to desktop. Reduced resources used by processes & services operating in the background. Improved overall PC system stability. Very noticable improvement in PC performance thanks to Process Lasso. None. No meaningful 'cons' discovered so far...and that is a rare thing to say about any software. The GUI is a little old-fashioned by today's standards...but that is not an issue except for total novice PC users, maybe. Process Lasso performs precisely as advertised. I am impressed and very glad to have installed this software. And I rarely rate any software this highly. (FYI: Windows XP SP3, Intel Quad Core i7 920, DDR3 3 GB, VelicoRaptor HDs 10K RPM in Raid 0, eVGA Geforce 260 GTX OCed, etc.)

Faster response and more control None I can think of

Takes away many of the hourglass moments when I'm waiting for an overwhelmed CPU to come back to me. Startup at login doesn't seem to work on my computer. Not a huge deal, and will probably get around to doing something about it one day ... I'm not too interested in the technical whys and wherefores, but this does seem to work. I'd used it for quite a while on my old, original XP laptop. I've since gone back to Macs, but have a Win7 laptop for work and noticed this again on this site, so checked out my licence details (lifetime - good call, way back when!) and reinstalled it on this computer. Once again it seems to be doing its job, markedly reducing the number of times I have to wait for a CPU bottleneck to clear itself. Value for money for busy people.

Uh, duh, yeah free is always "nicer" for the recipient. What about the creator? Oh yeah--that. Free doesn't pay the bills. Freeware is usually something an author creates in their spare time, which is why it often sucks.

I was having problems with certain programs gogging the CPU and eventually locking up the computer. This little program stopped that. For some reason I had to reboot a couple of times before it would work properly. Not the most sophisticated program but it does what it says.

Improving all the time. I appreciate the author's dedication and hard work. I'm giving this shareware a high rating, therefore I must be the author's cousin, living in his basement and sharing his refrigerator.

This version is just as free as the last. As before, it keeps working forever. Some advanced features are disabled over time (none of the critical ones like ProBalance and default priorities and affinities). I call it Shareware so I'm not assaulted by those who prefer Freeware labels only be put on something that is free in every way, and in every feature. It has been labelled Shareware here for 2 years now, so nothing new ;). For you free users, this one is just as free. For the paid users, this one offers even more advantages if you do upgrade to the Pro version. Thanks to those users who have supported my small company and bought a license.

I used the quick update app & have 4.00.18 installed. Nice program, wouldn't be without it. Never caused any issues I know of.

Well worth the small purchase price for all features. if you use it's well worth updating to the 'pay' edition. Great program & thanks & keep up the good work.

It has a default probalance option that you can choose to leave on without fiddling. Allows good control over processes running in your PC if you know your way around what its doing. very lightweight - hardly takes any resource Not for the layman user. Will not speed up your PC only allocates CPU cycle time so that responsiveness of your PC does not degrade. some options need vista or higher. As mentioned above in cons not for everyone. If you are using your PC for casual browsing, emailing, regular stuff and not running multiple heavy-duty apps(think high-end games, movie editors etc running in parallel) you almost surely dont need this. Check your task manager and if most of the time the CPU usage is low you are fine without this. One-off rogue processes here or there can be killed and restarted manually

I have used this program for years off and on and have found it very useful for monitoring and controlling the general health of my system. It helps you find and eliminate resource hogs and let's you know when it's time to make some upgrades. The only complaint I might have is that sometimes it seems like it tends to over control your processes, but all and all I find it very beneficial. I really like this program because it allows you to really see what's happening inside your computer and gives you some measure of control that you wouldn't otherwise have. When my computer seems to be overloaded and I'm not sure where the bottleneck is I select the "Active Processes" tab and watch the "CPU Utilization Graph" and it shows me right away what's bringing my computer to it's knees. What it doesn't do automatically it enables you to do manually, or points you in the right direction to make appropriated hardware upgrades to overcome the demands of your software.

The paid version is even better, worth the money.

IT seems to work well, I don'' pay much attention to the program. I set it up which was easy and just leave it to run on it's own. None that I have found so far but as I said I just let it do it's business. If you need it get it.
