It seemed to be a well-developed product. After a few days I started getting pop ups telling me I had some virus/trojan problems which it would fix if I would upgrade to the full version for $$$. (Okay that last bit isn't actually a "pro".) I didn't want to do this so I wanted to uninstall the app; it didn't want to let me do this, so I had to run windows in Safe-mode and do it there. This app doesn't like being uninstalled and it harasses you about upgrading constantly. I downloaded Avast! which works great and doesn't harass me about upgrading.

High detection rate - not too many false positives; low profile Autorun detection; java false positives; failure to update on approx 80% of PCs - this is a recent problem; AV Security Suite can bypass / disable it. Have started using AVAST as default on client PCs. Had previously used AVIRA, but update problems preclude this. Many clients had subsequently upgraded to Premium Edition, but now must install others. Too bad.

Have bounced around with several freeware Anti-Virus products, and have settled on AntiVir Personal. Used AVG, performance was fairly sluggish, but detection rate was not the best either. Avast! was better, but too many false positives. AntiVir was the last one that I installed, found stuff that both av programs missed, and seemed to be better on resources. In short, for a free av solution, is the best as far as detection rate. The occasional popup for the upsell is a small price to pay for an above average product.

An excellent anti-virus for most users. You don't need to attend to it most of the time because it updates itself and the protection it gives is almost flawless. One of the best freeware programs out there. Scanning takes a while but it's fine.

Detects viruses others don't. None so far. I have been having extreme problems with a computer that had McAfee as its protector. It also had Spybot and Spyblaster. The computer would freeze up and cause numerous problems. I just thought it was getting old as even reloading the operating system didn't do much. I installed AVAST and it did not detect anything. I loaded MALWAREBYTE Anti-Malware and it didn't detect anything. I was about to junk the computer. Then I loaded AVIRA and it detected a trojan called Gendal. Reading about the trojan and the symptoms fit exactly my problems. That trojan made it past several anti-virus and anti-malware programs undetected and only this one was able to find it. Thanks AVIRA.

Easy to download and use Regular updates failed all the time making me dump the product 1. Regular updates message would pop up but when the update button was clicked on, it would abort. 2. Detected the delf-nhu virus but was unable to either quarantine it or cleanse the computer of it.

-High detection rate -Updates can take a while to download -Far too false positives -Version 10 takes longer to bring up options for removal of virus After almost a decade of using Aviria AntiVir as my virus program (since Windows ME), version 10 has made me go else where (currently Avast). Although it isn't heavy on the system, it is heavier then previous versions. It takes far too long for the options to come up when a virus is detected. Also add in the fact that Aviria is known for producing too many false positives. Updates tend to be very slow to download. This is why I disable automatic updates and just check myself once a day. People also say the nag screen is annoying, however I don't find it to be annoying. It is a free product still. Even though Avast seems to be doing the trick for me now, whenever AntiVir releases version 11, I'll be one of the first people to try it out.

I don't seem to have viruses, but I have other diagnostics running full-time. It takes about 10 hours to check my 4 important drives. It seems worth having.

It does install and will let you know if there's any malware (even if a program is not malware). This is one of the most annoying antivirus programs I have ever used. There's a few issues, in no particular order. 1.) On an almost nightly basis the program pops up a huge advertisement to purchase/upgrade from the free version. Annoying to wake up in the morning on a regular basis with a big full-page advertisement wanting you to upgrade your Avira. 2.) Doing a manual scan is futile. Kept getting a software exception error with avscan.exe. Posted to the forums on 8-8-2010. I thought I never got a response but found out just now I did. Their forum system does not send notification of replies even if you have the option selected. While searching the forums I have noticed that the software exception error on avscan.exe is not new. This issue seems to have plagued Avira for quite a few version. The fix appears to be some magical hotfix that is sent via private message. At first I thought maybe some idiot sending out a trojan, but if so then it's ironic that this is has been on the forums for a very long time and quite often and no one caught it. If there is some hotfix instead of making ppl send private messages then the company needs to just fix the problem (since the issue is many versions old). 3.) I have a program that can decrypt passwords saved on a computer (IM, Email, etc). The program is a legit program. Avira keeps annoyingly popping up a box telling me I'm infected and that the file is a trojan. I have told it MANY times to ignore the file. Unfortunately this software is mentally retarded and can't comprehend this. I have just uninstalled Avira. Until they can fix these issues I have no use for the software.

For a free antivirus, Avira is one of my favorite antivirus. Already used it for years and it's still the best for me. Still have many false alarm in my personal tests. It's one of the best antivirus for years. Recommended for personal using.Get yourself a personal antivirus test and you'll find that Avira is useful..BUT it's still have many false alarm.

It`s very easy to use, and it gives good protection against viruses and other intruders! I don`t yet know how to remove/delete detected virus? It`s very simple and it tooks only a bit of memory :)

free antivirus protection Every time it ask me to upgrade ,which I decline,it seems like next session my guard is off. Is this related to trying to force an upgrade? Hope not because it just makes me angry! If you are offering a free product please do so with a quality one. I don't want the guard off thinking I'm protected from an antivirus when I am not.
