"Not so great" Works without sp3 for XP Really bogged down my computer with a lot of pop ups. I couldn't schedule when it would run. I downloaded this on two separate occasions thinking I was wrong the first time. I wasn't Iam going to try Avast.

The UI is awful, updates are huge, but it's free and has an excellent detection rate.

Antivir 10 is surprisingly underwhelming. Many functionalities have been dumbed down in this new version. The interactive guard mode is a joke. You can't manually heal, quarantine or simply ignore the warnings anymore like you could in AV9. All you can do is 'remove' or 'ask for more info' -- but then, the remove option automatically triggers a *complete* HD scan which to my knowledge you can't disable in the settings. I'm not sure if the Personal Edition is to blame here, but many things are not right with this release, and I'm going to closely monitor whether or not adjustments are made in the next weeks. I've switched from Grisoft to Avira because the former had been down the drain in the last years; I'm ready to look for alternatives again.

Re: AntiVir Premium: It's OK I guess. Takes it easy on resources. Highest rated in AV-Comparatives, blah, blah, blah.... Had a problem scanning IMAP in Thunderbird, but I think that's been fixed. Whatever. Norton is a major drag on my creaky old thang, so is that other one there, um.... Anyway....

Good product. Works very well. I do not and never will condone nagware. That drops the rating from a FIVE to a THREE. I'm not interested in kludges or workarounds to get rid of it either - it simply shouldn't be there. To the vendor: Harassing your potential customers will NOT produce greater sales. It WILL cause them to look elsewhere. If I think your product distinguishes itself to the point that I feel it's worth paying money for it, I will. If it doesn't, I won't. Nagging me pushes me rapidly towards the "I Won't" category. I'm quite sure I'm not alone in this view. Take a lesson.

Antivir Personal does not take an undue share of CPU power, is well-regarded in terms of AV detection capability and of anti-spyware and anti-rootkit capacity. It seems fully compatible with Windows 7 on my pc. I have no negatives to say about Avira Antivir Personal. It has a high AV detection rate, is good at anti-spyware and anti-rootkit application, takes little demand on the CPU - and is free.

Avira's AntiVir has been a player in the security world for some time; however, in 2008 its status boomed because of its remarkably strong detection rates. Nags are well timed, not a mid-project distraction, and generally informative while doing their job of trying to be a profitable operation. Free is relative. No cost to me, but very good protection from hazards I can not even define well. Update process doesn't notify the windows security watchdog that update is in progress, so I get a Windows nag screen telling me I may not have anti-virus protection enabled. I avoid clicking any links while update is completed. After some experience with a number of anti-virus programs, Avira is my choice for new computer/internet users. Simple to use, with most of the serious business taken care of without user attention. Choosing what to do with a threat can be intimidating for a computer newbie. Forum-support is available for more advanced users. Of the many anti-virus products with free versions and paid versions, Avira is in my Consider the Paid Version catagory.

Its free and updates itself alot which is good. Its quite and does not get in your face and goes about in the background. It has spammy adds which i would love to see gone from it as its a good program. Its quite and works in the background and updates itself!! The adds should be removed from it as its the only let down i can see!

*daily up-dates* Caches viruses trying to get on my laptop*Quick to update *Pop-up ad for the paid version of the program* Have to shut it down before i was able to install an up-dated version of Comodo Firewall. I have to move from using Avg to Avira as I found that Avg was being a memory hog. Avira also captured an virus that Avg missed.
