Easy to configure 'Exceptions' to ignore specified files, folders, or a whole drive. Several notification modes to choose. Does everything I need. By default it is scheduled to do a full system scan every day. The full scan ignores the Exceptions. However it is easy to disable, i.e. unschedule. Some may not like the daily upgrade promoter popup but it seems inoffensive to me. This is a really fine AV. And it is endearing that the scanner is named Luke Filewalker, the icon with Guard active is an umbrella, and with Guard temporarily disabled it is a furled umbrella. I was also pleased when I submitted a game file it had detected as a trojan and got a very prompt reply that it was a false positive and would be removed from their database the next day.

The antivirus while scanning is fast and can detect the virus Its not really solve the problem, my A and B also using AVIRA free edition, Scan at A virus found and repaired, go B scan again the same virus detected. Did not do any repair at B and go back to A, but A cant detect the virus just repaired. The AVIRA free edition is faster than other antivirus for scanning and detectable. But the repair function like hiding the virus with the computer memory. I got a pen drive and i take it to work. Use to save customer file and take back to office, after that i dun wan use it for work, because its my pen drive(private). So i take back my home use my compueter with avira free edition to scan and detected some threat. after that threat show i click on repair, then the threat has been repaired. Suddenly my dear ask me to let her use the computer, and i need to use acer laptop with AVIRA free edition too. So i plug in the pen drive just scanned and repaired, scan again at acer laptop. The Threat has been found and the virus name is same. So wierd, then i curiosly plug the pendrive back to the computer just repaired it, and scan again, the virus THREAT cannot be found, and then i do again scan it by acer laptop again, The THREAT detected.... Wierd and let me think its not really to solve the virus threat, just hiding it if the avira cannot solve it and memory it for next scan.

"great Free anti virus software" it's Free. it's a light software so it won't drain your CPU and memory, it does a good job in protecting your pc. I highly recommend it annoying advertisement when it updates the virus signatures it's been 6 months since i'm using this FREE anti virus software and i'm really satisfied.yeah, it does the same job that Avg and Avast can do (no more, no less) but i think that Avira is a "lighter" software.never had any trouble so far.

It seems to do what I want it seems very thorough if I hit a virus it will catch it in a couple seconds and warn me its a virus or Trojan it does not scan Email but I have never had a virus since I have installed it. Don't like nag screen and absence of Email scanner other wise 95% grade! It will do what you want and keep the viruses away! If that is what you are looking for then try it and see for your self! Its simple to remove if you don't like it go for Avast or AVG. Microsoft has a Free one its OK to, It will run with Avira with out any conflicts if you feel you need it but you wont! TRY IT, YOU WILL LIKE IT! JD

"Best free antiviral software.... for now." Works, easy too use, and DOESN'T SLOW DOWN MY COMPUTER (like newer versions of AVG). Love earlier AVG but it's become a memory hog (and yes, my RAM upgrade is maxed out). I tried Avast as an AVG alternative first, big mistake! Avira, GREAT PROGRAM! Minor, when it auto updates you get a splash page trying to entice you to upgrade "pay for" versions. If closing a box once a day is the price I pay for outstanding free software, I think it's a very small price and well worth it.

"Way too invasive." Considering how many other choices there are, I really can't think of anything which stands out, but I guess others might find this product suitable. This missed many problems identified by other programs. Took up too many sys resources, slowed down my pc and I kept being inundated with AVIRA generated pop ups!!! Unable to run as a stand alone utility WITHOUT taking up resources.

it is free It still allows virus in I am so glad that this has worked so well for everyone else. Even using this I still got a really bad virus that crashed my entire system, but considering it was free it works just fine. And who knows, it could have been a whole lot worse if I didn't have it!

"Free is a very good price." It doesn't gobble up a ton of RAM, is easier to use and performs just as well as some others we have used in the past. The daily reminder about upgrading. A very small price to pay and it's gone in a click.

The best detection of any antivirus. Norton and Webroot are comparable but you have to pay for those. Avira is free unless you get the paid versions(firewall included,etc.). Avast does have more features even in Avast's free version. Avira gives paid-level protection for free. However, those who want a firewall included with a "web shield", etc., may want to look at Avast's free version. You have to pay for extra protection with Avira. However, Avira does have the best detection rate with the smallest RAM & CPU usage, meaning it is the fastest. Most antivirus firewalls, with the possible exception of Kaspersky, are really not as good as Comodo or Online Armor anyway, and those two are free(paid version available for Online Armor) with world-class protection. Get Avira,Spybot, Online Armor, Spyware Terminator(now it has no spyware), and Peerblock for world-class protection, all bases covered, for free.
