It worked OK, but no auto update feature when I used. Did good on scans; worked well on a friends PC, which did have malware, which it did clean. User interface was good; easy to work with. The nag screens would not go away; they just got in the way of your regular work. I tried the fixes to no avail. It became so frustrating I uninstalled. I would not recommend. I switched to AVAST Home Edition about a year ago and am very happy. AVAST is the only one that has worked very well for me. I tried AVG, not for long, AVG had too many issues; I used Mcafee for years, but the crashes became intolerable. AVIRA was ok, but the nag screens got in the way of my regular work and became too frustrating. I would not recommend AVIRA. I switched to AVAST Home Edition about a year ago and am very happy.

Excellent customizable protection, effective, easy to use, customizable scheduling. You can set up times to update and when to scan, what type of scan, and on and on. Non-intrusive functionality and a nice GUI. None. Some people complain about the ad to upgrade to a paid version you get after the updates. I think that's silly to complain about since this is a free program. I'll gladly close a window once a day to be able to use this great software for free Very effective, very customizable. There are other free tools on their site that compliment this one. My Kasperski subscription ran out, and I had used this on other people's computers recently. I liked it so well that I did not go back to Kasperski. Avira found stuff that Kasperski missed, and is more customizable and easier to use. I also bought their full version for my new laptop with Windows 7 since the free one doesn't work with 7. I highly recommend paying for the full version as it is cheaper and better than the popular ones out right now, but if you want the free version, it is more than sufficient for Vista and older OS systems.

Seems to be very comprehensive user control and coverge, with minimal impact on system overheads. Updates continue to be very slow, with inadequate response from the company as to why or to rpovide a resolution. Company has good product but customer service is abysmal!! Avira recently held a 2year premium upgrade for the premium upgrade, which seemed like a good deal, except it really wasn't 2for1. When challenged, the company shrugged off requests for clarification until the offer expiry date had passed. Very poor business practice in my estimation.

"The best!!" finishes scan quickly, detects viruses efficiently, easy to use and can be trusted. everything is perfect but could have been better if the details of warnings(but details of virus detection are given) after the scan were given clearly. excellant antivirus, must have if you really want to keep you PC secure.

Runs fairly quick and seems to find and remove most problems. When I bought an anti-virus program,I got my first virus, not say which one (Norton), I went back to Avira and it's free. For what I expect from anti-virus,I haven't any cons except the upgrade pop-up/ Avira not only runs pretty quick, but also runs quietly in the background doing it's thing and it does it very well. In terms of anti-virus, I don't feel that you can get any better program for what it does. The only bad thing is it's constant pop-up to upgrade, but since it is free,I can live with it.

"Great anti-virus software" Avira is one of the strongest anti-virus software out there. It catches more viruses than many other programs. It has all the features that should be in anti-virus software. And it's totally free. Updates may take a lot of time, even for fast internet connections. A great choice for PC protection.

"No automatic updates, annoying pop up ads" Does seem to work well as an anivirus program. Did catch trojans McAfee and AVG missed. No automatic virus definition updates. It says you can schedule them and scans, but that feature does not appear to work-must be done manually. Very difficult to interface with this program. Every time you access this you get annoying pop-up ads. A nuisance to set up;pop-up ads are rude and downright harassment. If you offer something free, let people use it in peace.

"Very effective, light and free" tiny system footprinthigh detection ratesnice interface popup during update Avira is the tops. I wish I went for this first instead of AVG that missed infections o my machine Avira found. The splash screen can be disabled by doing a reg edit if you wish (just google Avira flash)

Out of desperation I tried this software to get rid of Trojan Horses that had infected my PC. Avira appeared to have done the job (got rid of the problem) ... maybe with a little help. It was easy to install and use. It seemed pretty slow on my Pentium 4 ... but is was probably "deep" scanning to do a more thorough job. I have since changed the setting on my other Anti-Virus software to SLOW scan. I believe that the free AntiVirus programs on CNET are good for detecting problems after the fact; but I want software that prevents infections which probably requires the enhanced (you pay for them) versions. I am also a strong believer that multiple programs are required in the fight against malware. Each seems to have strengths but few if any protect against everything all the time. Keep them current (updated). I also became acquainted with AutoRuns.exe from the Microsoft web site and RootKit / Malware software called GMER. But the most interesting thing I learned was the idea to go back before the infection (about 2 weeks was suggested) using the Windows RESTORE point function. Simple but it could be very easy and effective. Reminders: Search engines are great but they may point you to unsafe web sites. And you can get infected even from people you know if they are not practicing safe computing. So I have a note to myself to scan attachments before opening them. Lastly, keep Microsoft Windows (and other software) up-to-date. Updated on Jan 14, 2010 I have reluctantly removed this free anti-virus program due to possible conflicts (problems) with my paid anti-virus software. But I am removing free AVG and installing free Avira on my other PC. And when my paid license expires I plan to re-evaluate.

"Easy on the system resourses, effective and free." Very light. My old laptop starts up ten times faster than it did with AVG or Norton and so far Avira has been more effective. Regular pop up ads for the paid version but Avira deserve to have them Simple features, perhaps limited but easy to use, effective and free.

This would be the best antivirus if not some very annoying issues. First of all, updates. Almost 3 days I'm trying to update the virus database, but as I see, this is absolutely useless. What for I need an antivirus if I'm not able to update it's database? This is not the first time when the servers are not working. So, minus 1 star. Second, the aggressive marketing is outdated. Avira, please, change the marketing strategy. At list, this looks just very stupid. Do they really think that the nag screen (which is easy to disable) will make someone to buy the premium version? Indeed, very stupid policy. So, minus one more star for the nag screen and stupidity. Today, there are some very good free alternatives. Have no Idea why this product so overrated. It deserves just 3 stars.

"Easiest, Solid and strong AV program" - good heuristic- Fast- no make system down- low system performance - no web protection- sometimes AV can`t update - slow update- Hyper Sensitive Avira is one of good AV program Free Class, doesn`t make slow performance PC, if pc idle only use 8Mb-14 Mb Ram, but have Much False Positive >.<.

Good detection of known malware Too sensitive I installed it and found that it is finding too many false positives. It has found more than 10 files as viruses in a hour, of which most are false positives. It has even pointed out Internet Explorer.exe as virus. I could not bear this. It seems to behave in a over sensitive manner. I have removed it on the first day itself to be sure that i dont delete any false positives. I suggest better dont go with this product. Only use it if you are able to judge which file is a virus and false positive.
