Impacts very little performance of my system. Scans are faily quick and the interface is easy to use. It is frequently updated and third-party tests show that it has a very good detection rate. The only downside of the free version of Antivir is that when it updates it opens a popup recommending other products from the same company. A small trade-off for free software! 5/5

Read: http://www.sunbelt-softw...estresults_2D2008q1.pdf Read this too: http://sunbeltblog.blogs...-test-results-from.html It's better than most across the board. Reading the report some areas are weak, but overall the prog is superb.

"Javascripts will be checked when they enter the PC into the caches. Sometimes the simplest approach for scanners is still the best." Uh... You either didn't read or didn't understand comeoffit's remarks. Malicious JavaScript will not be scanned before it is rendered in the browser, unless there is a HTTP scanner in place. This means that unless you have an HTTP scanner in use, malicious content (not just JavaScript) can hit your browser. Just look at how many JavaScript and other content-related vulnerabilities the browsers (including Firefox) have had over the years to see why this matters.

u know what i love are the ppl who rate avast and avg over antivir. its funny because neither avg or avast has as good a detection rate as antivir ((avg is rated poorest anti-virus around)). neither avast or avg scan as quickly either. so basically choosing avg would be saying, "i dont need as much protection as possible. i dont even mind viruses" choosing avast is saying "i dont mind the slow scans, and the nag during updating." i love the ppl who say "well antivir has too many false positives". ok so its better that an antivirus misses some viruses then it detect something as "generic"? common sense would tell you that the generic is prolly not a virus rather an application running that isnt in the database yet. better safe than sorry, choosing the other 2 is saying "better sorry, than safe". and to the dumb a** who calls antivir's pop-up as adware, its not. its part of the program itself. adware is a malicious code installed, moving banners ((ie what windows live messenger has)), or products that install or ask to be installed from other companies ((ie trillian with the optional tool bars)). also not all adware will hurt your pc, i dont see ppl complain much about windows live messenger, i dont see them complaining about trillian. both advertise or have optional installation of third-party products.

Amazing that it manages to stay on top of the tests for the free and paid versions. Excellent AV with minimal system impact.

This is the BEST free Anti-Virus. See www.av-comparatives.org for comparative reviews. Very clean UI (!), fast background guard and fast scanning speed (does not bog down the PC) I have been using this for ages, have had zero problems so far. #1 Software!

One of the best detection rates + very good heuristics....and doesn't hog the system AND it's free! What do you want more?
Rated 30/50 by agapecpus at May 21, 2008
This is a good program, lightweight and has great detection rates. So why a 3? Can't get updates for the free version which make detection rates drop. I have tried this program a number of times over the years in the hopes they would fix the issue but the haven't. If you get the Premium version it will update but it only updates once a day from what I can see. Yes there is the popup window but I think you can deal with that for a free program. If they would ever fix the update issue I would highly recommend this program. Till that day Avast or AVG will have to do.

The best Anti-virus program, ever! Better than AVG, better than any other anti-virus software that I had to pay for. Detects viruses that other anti-virus software can't. And it is FREE.

Very good! In my opinion, this is the best free anti-virus program available! I've used it for quite a while and I've experienced only few problems. Here's a reliable site for comparison to other programs: http://www.av-comparatives.org/
